  1. roll out silly putty snakes and cut them with a plastic knife pull and stretch silly putty roll silly putty into a thick snake and pinch it with index and middle fingers - try to keep the fingers straight take clay(not play dough) smooth it in a tray - have her draw with a pencil in it(use a fat triangler pencil if poss.) - shapes, letters, etc. Then have her erase using the index and middle finger - try to keep the fingers straight. You should use silly putty or clay(not play dough) because it has more resistance- Have fun

  5. Thank you - I do believe he comprehends just fine because he answers most questions correctly after any reading assignment and can narrate fairly well. This next year I was really wanting to focus on his writing :D
  6. Thank you - I would love the reassurance and plan look into this :)
  7. DS is 9 and does not have any reading issues and comprehends what he reads, but I was wondering if I should continue to use The Critical Thinking Co.'s Reading Detective or what do you use? Thank you
  8. Okay I just found this - it is not for the same math balance, but I do believe some of it is usable :D http://moveitmaththesource.com/freee-booksandhu.html Anyone else find anything?
  9. picked up a Learning Resource Math Balance like this http://www.learningresources.com/product/teachers/shop+by+category/manipulatives/math/number+concepts+-+operations/math+balance.do# is there a web site that has activities or maybe a book I can buy? Thank You,
  10. We school year round based on a 4 day school week with the 5th day for field trips and group activities. It seems to work better for us to take a week for Christmas, 1-3 days for other holidays, and for his birthday we take 2 weeks off. It is really hard for us to take long periods of time off - we like to have the freedom to take off at will :D However, for church class we switch to the next grade in Aug.
  11. We are science lovers - we feel it is important to introduce science concepts, do experiments and learn how to record your work. We do use spines and I do add lots of fun stuff. Will our ds remember everything probably not, but he is given the chance to enrich his mind and grow with the learning process instead of facing it all in high school not knowing a darn thing. And lets face it experimenting and learning about plants, animals, electricity, chemistry, etc. is a blast :D
  12. Wow! You guys are awesome - I really appreciate your input ;)
  13. do you need the teachers book? Thank you

  16. could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong - when I send a reply to a PM I can not find the message I sent - it does not show up when I go on messages sent. Thank you
  17. :iagree: We have done it like this for the past 2 years. Using this method ds has retained the information and aced the tests. At times we do use the white board.
  18. There is no need to add, but we love to mix things up. We work on math at least 1 hr. per day - we use MM4 and I pull 16 pages out from the different chapters of the worktext per week (now working on Multiplication, Measurement, Angles, Geometry) - most weeks we get them all done. Also, one time per week we do 2-3 pages from flip math, pattern blocks, color tiles, c-rods, geoboard, logic safari, weeklly Reader Tables/Graphs, and mental math books along with either computer recommended games from MM or board games. Ds does not like flash cards so I have him recite his facts, skip count, etc. at least 2x per week. I keep a master list for daily reference to date and check so I do not forget anything. MM does have suggestions and the web site has information - I have e-mailed with questions and received a timely response. So the support is great. I highly recommend buying it if your child works well with a mastery based program. And only add if you feel the need.
