  1. Woke up at 4:15am and could not go back to sleep, my brain was working through so many things we have going on right now. Today was day 24/30 and was only a 12 minute mobility video, so I went to the track in the drizzling rain and walked/jogged for 25 minutes. Came home and iced my knees while enjoying a cuppa before the kids were awake.
  2. Day 19/30. Today was a ludicrously-not-beginner yoga core workout that included much swearing on my part. 🤪 Then, I went for a 20 minute brisk walk before it started to rain.
  3. We had this same problem, only I threw in the towel in the middle of Pre-Algebra. That's when I signed him up for the AoPS online course to finish the book, and had someone else be the bad guy for a while. I let the writing part slip as we worked through the alg1 part of the Intro book last year, so I will need to make a note to bring it back this year, as we move to alg2.
  4. I'm doing great, thanks! (I forgot all about posting here. Thanks for reminding me!) I'm on day 17 of 30, but haven't been able to get myself up earlier than 6am to start my workout. Today was a 15 minute mobility workout, and then I went to the high school track and ran the straights/ walked the curves for a mile, which was all I could do. I had nearly completed a couch-to-5k program when I found out that I was pregnant with DS7, and I would like to be able to at get to that level of cardio fitness again.

  6. Oh! DS12 likes the frozen steak, bean, and cheese burritos from the store, but they are expensive! I can probably set up a container of ingredients so he can make these himself. Thanks!
  7. tl;dr - How can I support a very tall, active pre-teen, who is going through yet another growth spurt, to make sure that he's getting the nutrients/vitamins he needs for his body and his brain? DS12 has always been in the 90-95th percentile in height, but in the last 18 months he has literally been off the charts. He's grown an inch and a half in the last 3 months alone! What would you recommend, besides plenty of sleep and plenty of good foods, to make sure he has what he needs to grow and thrive? Any recommendations would be helpful! He takes a daily multivitamin, omega-3, and D. He goes up to bed at 8:30, but can stay up to read, so I would guess that he normally gets 10 hours of sleep each night. He plays soccer in the spring, summer is cross country training (running, strength training, stretching), fall is soccer, and winter is basketball. I'm going to put him in swim one day a week this fall/winter. He had PANDAS as a young child and is doing much, much better, but can still have issues with anxiety and OCD-type behaviors when sick and/or stressed physically. He's allergic to eggs (can have them in baked goods, but no hard boiled/scrambled/mayo/etc) and allergic to tree nuts (he eats peanut butter). He cannot tolerate poultry of any kind (it makes him vomit). DS25 was always at the opposite end of the growth chart - he was literally below the 5th percentile until he was a teenager. (DS12 is about to be taller than DS25!) So, I don't really have experience feeding a boy who is growing so much so fast...
  8. I know that I can say "no". I just really wanted them to have this time with someone else in charge of them for an hour. It's good for them. And for me! I'm just moody today. (this week? preimenopause and a heat wave do not go together. hurrumph.)
  9. Music is private, and swim will likely be semi-private (so, only them), because the classes are all filling up already.
  10. But if no one else volunteers, they will not play. They have no other socialization with other kids (not including family) besides outdoor sports, due to covid. I will have horrible guilt, and unhappy kids. How can I say no?
  11. I just got the fourth (fifth?) email from the city soccer league saying that both my 7yr old and 4yr old's teams don't have coaches. The season is supposed to start in two weeks! I am mom and teacher. I am with them all.day.long.every.damn.day.already. I don't want to have to volunteer to coach as well. (Insert unhappy angry guttural scream here.) My husband won't do it. He likes to cheer from the sidelines loudly, but he won't volunteer; he's already go two jobs. I will have three kids in soccer, on different nights/days (that I don't know yet - so I can't sign them up for music or swim yet - that's a whole different source of aggravation!) Plus, DS12 is going to start in the referee training program. I'm already busy! AND!!!! I don't know anything about soccer! *whispers* I don't even enjoy watching soccer. I'm going to have to volunteer and I'm pissed about it. grumble grumble grumble.... </rant>
  12. One of our local librarians contacted me today to ask about purchasing books that would be useful for homeschool students. The text of her email is below. Could you help me come up with a list to pass along to her? Thanks very much! "I have recently culled some out-of-date materials from the nonfiction section of the library, and many of these were books designed for use by students doing research projects. Examples of these are "Issues in Context" and "Opposing Viewpoint" single-subject books on topics like genetic engineering, stem cell research, climate change, etc. From our circulation data it seems that these all got very little (if any!) usage, so it doesn't seem like a good use of funds to purchase newer versions, but I do want to make sure we have materials that will be helpful to homeschooled students. Are there any resources that you would consider to be necessary that the public library should have available? I know that's a very broad question, so please feel free to answer as broadly or specifically as you'd like!"
  13. Day 11/30 here. I've been up every day at 6am to have my workout done before 7. Next week, I'm going to push that back to 5:45am. My goal is eventually to be finished my workouts *and* have time to shower and have a cuppa before the kids get up at 7am. Today's workout was a bodyweight strength workout that included lots of lunges, push-ups, planks, and (starter) burpees. Oh, and lots of swearing - it was challenging! 😉
  14. I had planned to bring it up with my (beloved, wonderful) midwife last week but, when I showed up, I found out she had retired and I had my appt with someone new. 😩 Thank you for this. 😭
  15. Sadly, my insurance no longer covers telehealth now that the state of emergency has ended. I've struggled with anxiety for years, among other things. Every year I tell myself that I will bring it up at my physical, and every year I talk myself out of it. I feel like I'm doing okay enough, I should just suck it up and keep on. I feel embarrassed, and I'm afraid my doctor won't take me seriously. I'm not really helping myself...
  16. I'm in the thick of it here too. I'm 47, and am on day 277 (and counting) since my last period. I did have the "oh my god I am bleeding to death" periods for several months last year. I have occasional hot flashes, occasional sleep issues, and have gained back 20 pounds. I have recently added in exercise each morning (a mix of cardio, strength, and mobility) and am trying to get a walk in the evenings as well, weather permitting. I am really struggling with my mental health, though. Anxiety, panic, persistent unwanted thoughts, inability to focus, low self-esteem, and a general overwhelming feeling of 'blah'. I haven't been taking my vitamins, I keep forgetting. I'm hoping that were can get back into some regular routine soon and things will be easier to manage. ETA: yes, I should talk about these things with my doctor. My next appt is January.
  17. Today was day 9 of 30, and a 20 minute interval cardio workout. I think I may have pulled an abdominal muscle over the weekend. Ouch! It mostly hurts when going from seated to standing, and didn't bother me during the workout. It's cloudy and cool today, so I plan to get a walk in later, before dinner. It's going to be over 90°f the rest of the week, so I'm going to enjoy today!

Hands down, her best recipe for peaches is salted brown sugar peach jam, and it is in her book Preserving by the Pint. If you can't get your hands on a copy from the library, I would be glad to PM you a photo of the recipe. 😉
  19. That sounds like work! Day 7/30 was a 15 minute yoga flow. I went for a 30 minute walk after.
  20. A little, but not anywhere near what I expected! Day 6/30 was supposed to be a 24-minute hip hop cardio video, but I did the day 1 bodyweight cardio video (44 minutes) again instead.
  21. Day 5/30 was a core workout, all floor moves. I felt muscles that I forgot I even had! 🤣
