  1. I have a referral for pelvic floor physical therapy and I haven't called yet. Maybe tomorrow...
  2. This is what my husband uses in his senior honors physics classes! I just helped him re-shelve all his textbooks when he closed his classroom for the summer.
  3. You can check out the Car Seat Lady's website:
  4. I would like a good old fashioned Irish wake- put my coffin in the corner of the room, have lots of finger food, and plenty of alcohol and music! No sad faces, only happy memories!
  5. I'll have to buy corn instead of wheat tortillas next time. Thanks!
  6. If you shred the zucchini finely, it melts right into the batter and you can't see it at all. It's delicious! (Also, I use Hershey powdered cocoa, it's always been fine.) I'm going to have to buy zucchini this weekend!
  7. I forgot about taco meat. No one else will eat it due to the sauce/spices (maybe DS23, but he rarely eats with us). Maybe I will make a batch and freeze it in portions. I used to make it with ground chicken or turkey, I guess that why I stopped - he stopped being able to keep down poultry.
  8. He used to eat cheese. He's stopped in the last six months or so. No more cheese sticks as a protein choice at lunch. He will eat grilled cheese, as long as it's provolone. We have pizza every Friday but, even that he is starting to complain about the cheese. I make an awesome double-chocolate zucchini bread where you can't see or taste the zucchini at all - he knows it's there and won't even try it. I always have an audience when I cook!
  9. Chicken Poultry of any sort ends in puke, even if he doesn't know it's there. He ate it without issue until a few years ago. Now, it doesn't matter how it's prepared or what it's flavored with. We had hot dogs once that made him sick - I didn't realize that they weren't all-beef and included pork & chicken. *sigh*
  10. How much does your 10yr old boy eat on a typical day? What are your best ways at getting a growing kid who is picky and has food allergies to eat a balanced diet while also getting enough calories? DS10 is allergic to tree nuts and eggs (no quiche, hard-boiled, scrambled, etc but can have baked goods with eggs in them, like cookies and banana bread). He dislikes milk and cheese, unless it's cheese quesadillas or baked mac n' cheese. He cannot tolerate poultry of any kind (including broth); it upsets his stomach and makes him vomit (he's been tested, no allergies). He no longer likes peanut butter, but will eat a spoonful if he has no other protein choice available. He likes salmon, but that gets pricey quick! He is suddenly hungry ALL THE TIME. I know that he needs the calories but, if it was up to him, they would all come from white rice, buttered pasta, hamburgers, and desserts. Any tricks on getting more vegetables and good proteins into this kid?
  11. How did you schedule it? Looking at the teacher's manual, it recommends 185 45-minute lessons. I had originally planned to schedule science for two 90-minute chunks of time each week, over 36-40 weeks. To be honest, we (I) have had a hard time getting science done this year, so I was also considering starting it over the summer, when DH is home and we don't have anything else scheduled except twice-a-week swim lessons at the city lake. This is for an 5th grader who is math-y and has excellent reading comprehension, if that makes a difference. My other option is just letting him read science books and follow the WTM recommendations for outlining, etc, but I think a textbook might keep me from letting it slide again.
  12. I'm still a bit concerned over what was snarling and making the fisher cat scream. 😲 Going to have to remember to put the trash out before dark from now on!
  13. I looked quickly this morning and didn't see anything. The neighbor's property that has some trees is currently also covered with piles of branches/leaves from cutting a tree down elsewhere in the property, so there's lots of ground I can't see.
  14. It's 1am here and I'm wide awake. Around midnight there was suddenly the most amazing noise in my backyard. Literal caterwauling. Something was screaming behind my house. I got up when it started, to listen at the window (my glasses were downstairs and it was pitch black, so I knew I wouldn't be able to see anything). Underneath the screaming was a handful of little 'yip, yip' noises, so I'm guessing mama and babies. But, the thing that was truly scary was that next to the caterwauling was a low, angry, snarling. I came downstairs and turned on the backyard floodlight; by the time I found my glasses in the dark, the noises were gone. I am going to have trouble letting my kids play in the backyard from now on. We don't live in the country, either. My property backs up to two other properties; the one on the left is a house with a yard, the one on the right is a three family building with a fence and then a thin section of trees before it meets my backyard. My yard is not fenced. There is only one dog that lives on my street, a giant St. Bernard, and they have an electric fence. I don't think anyone on the next street has a dog, as we never hear barking. We've heard cat fights before, with meowing and hissing; this was not cats. I have no idea what kind of animal was snarling like that, but I hope it never comes back! I'm never going to be able to sleep again....
  15. I need to buy a microscope for the fall. Mainly will be used by DS10, but I'm sure DS7 and DS5 will insist on using it as well. Please help me find a good, sturdy microscope that will last through four kids but also won't be too complicated. Thanks!
  16. We went to the small local-ish zoo for several years before I realized that they had placed the roadrunner exhibit right next to the coyote exhibit.... Well played, zoo!
  17. It's a girl. I have five boys - my mother is delighted to finally be getting a granddaughter!
  18. BABY!!! I'm an auntie! Woot! (I have two nieces and a nephew on my husband's side, but this is the first child of my only sibling. I'm excited!!!)
  19. They are prepping her for surgery. Fingers crossed and all the prayers!
  20. If she doesn't have her baby in the next 45 minutes, she's going to have a C-section. C'mon, baby!
  21. My younger four boys are tall and have huge heads. They stay in harnessed car seats until they completely outgrow them, usually around 8. Then, they stay in boosters until they are over the legal height requirement. I vote for a harnessed seat that you can pass down.
