  1. Little kids that age are trying to get a grasp on reality. I remember being about that age and asking everyone what it felt like to be alive. What I wanted to know was did they think and have feelings and emotions like I did. I also clearly remember my first "deja vu" moment. I was in first grade and it really freaked me out, feeling like I had already done something before. It sounds like he's being pretty imaginative in explaining confusing thoughts and emotions.
  2. I voted "Other," and I don't mean to be a smart alec. I dearly WANT to make bread, but all I get are bricks. Would some of you lovely ladies mind posting your recipes? Pretty please!?!:crying:
  3. I'm 6'2" and used to HATE being so tall. But then I matured and realized I was perfect, just the way God made me, and I wasn't going to appoligize for my height. So for me, wearing heels is a way of saying "I know I'm tall without them, but I want to wear them and to heck with social norms!" But for comforts sake, I don't go much over an inch and a half and I like a thicker heel, not a teensy spike.
  4. Uh-on. I've had mine for years now and have always put it in the dishwasher. So, I shouldn't be doing that? How big of a goof is that?
  5. This has been a very interesting thread to read. I've got a question for Osmosis Mom. You said: Is wearing gold not allowed in Islam? Is it just for men or is it for women too?
  6. I think books are a great idea. I've heard of requests being made for people to buy their favorite children's book and inscribe it rather than brining cards. The thought being that they last longer.
  7. I voted Size 12. I'm currently at a 16 and fighting the baby weight. So 12 is my personal goal. I think a healthy size will be different for every woman based on her frame size, age, etc.
  8. Our pastor occasionally has his dog in while he's working during the week and he's there alone. However, he loves his flock more than his dog and if anyone at any time expressed discomfort with this I'm sure that he's stop bringing the dog in. People (and hygiene) come before animals. For you to be told not to ruffle feathers is unacceptable. The group leader, or if she's not comfortable her husband, should go to either the pastor or deacon board and express their concerns.
  9. My dh taught my dd to use the mouse and how to right and left click when she was 3.5. He gets her to Starfall or PBSKids and then lets her navigate the site and play the games by herself. I guess you could call it, Into to Computer use.
  10. My favorite woman in the Bible is Jael, I've always liked that name. I also like Miriam, she was pretty tough too.
  11. I am 6'2" and I get complete strangers all the time making comments about my height. I have no problem helping old ladies get cereal off the top shelf, but who just randomly goes up to someone and asks how tall they are, or if they play basketball? :glare:
  12. This might sound really stupid, but I'll throw it out there. I'm still working on losing my baby weight and have been wearing a lot of my dh's shirts till I can fit back into mine. What I found helps is going out and buying some pretty undies. Even the "panties by the pound" packs from Wal-Mart come in cute colors. No one else (but dh) can see them, but I know they're there and they make me feel a little less frumpy.
  13. You are not a failure as a parent! You are here, looking for advice on an issue your child is struggling with. You are close enough and care enough about her to identify the issue and want to find a solution. Obviously from your post, your heart is hurting for her. I don't see any of that as being a failure. Not to minimalize the issue, but she's only 15 and she's a bit irresponsible. It's not irreversable. With gentle consistency it will change. Big :grouphug: to you. You're a good Mom!
  14. Yup, right there with you. DD's prescription is +9.5. The dr. put a set on me that simulated her vision, it was like someone smeared Vasiline on them, couldn't see squat!
  15. My 3 year old will not allow you to take her glasses off! Granted, she's practically blind without them. It's the first thing she reaches for in the morning. They are standard glasses, just in miniature. We narrowed the choices down to two frames and let her choose, we also let her clean them and take care of them, so she has a strong sense of ownership with them. We do have a spare pair just in case, but she's had them for 8 months now and have not had any issues. And we also bought the warranty, just in case.
  16. The Detroit Institute of Arts is amazing! The Detroit Zoo is also lots of fun. We never go to Detroit without having dinner in Greek Town, Pizza Popolis has terrific deep dish pizza!
  17. I've never had anything like that happen to me personally. But I've got a girlfriend who is very level headed and serious to an extent that I'd call it retentive, and she had something "demonic" happen to her. I don't want to tell it because it wouldn't be right telling her business in public. But it was very "supernatural" and coming from anyone but her I would have poo-pooed it, but she WOULD NOT make something like that up and I can't help but believe her. She felt herself being attacked spiritually and began to pray fervently and knew she was battling something. As frightening and scary as these demonic attacks are, the power of the Holy Spirit is so much stronger!
  18. Wow. . . just . . . I thought this HAD to be some sort of sick joke. This makes me really sad. When are we going to get past this?
  19. What an actor/singer/etc. believes in private doesn't bother me. It's when they get all publicly preachy about issues that annoys me. If it's legal and they're not all in my face about it, I could care less.
  20. I'm right with you. I would also like to add that no men should be wearing Speedo's, especially the old pale, hairy, wrinkly guy who likes to lay spread eagle at the pool which is right at the entrance to my park!!! I don't want to see it, I don't want to imagine it, I don't want it within 100 yards of me!!
  21. I've really enjoyed Aaron Elkins' books. He writes mysteries about a forensic detective who travels around solving crimes based on bone remains.
