  1. I'm hoping to coordinate music with history. Any links/recs for ancients?
  2. Dd had to have a molar pulled, and the dentist didn't want to wait more than a month to put in the spacer.
  3. Dd, just turned five. I'm realizing my list doesn't look very accelerated. :tongue_smilie: I suspect dd is gifted, but we haven't done these subjects formally, so we have to start somewhere! Math: Continue Dreambox, start Miquon now :glare: and continue that as well. I don't know dd's potential in this area yet, so that is my plan unless it becomes obvious she needs something more. With essentially no math work, she tested at early 1st on the Peabody, and naturally adds in her head, so...? I have a vague idea that I will have her complete Miquon, then start Singapore until she can do BA and reevaluate again. Grammar: Start FLL 1 Handwriting: Continue with Zaner Bloser. History: Start SOTW 1 and make it awesome with lots of activities! Science: Still just books from the library, aim for more simple experiments. I want to start BFSU, but I know myself, and I know I can't handle starting two intensive planning curricula in one year. If I can make history happen, I will be very proud of myself! Foreign language: Find the energy to start Mandarin again, ugh. Practice ASL throughout the day. Music: Maybe do a composer each month. I would love for music to relate to history, though, I'm just not sure how to find music from ancient times.... Art: Drawing with Children. Wow, that's more than I realized. :leaving:
  4. Is it serious if there are only a few?? I tried to post a pic, but can't figure it out on my tablet. It won't let me upload. Should I cover them, or no??
  5. I searched for welts, and it showed the same images as it did for hives.... It has been 28 hours or less. Will there automatically be more synptoms? She just has what I mentioned, which itch, and is feeling fine otherwise.
  6. Dd has one large (2.5 inches?) and three small welts on her torso that we just noticed this evening. She did have a novocaine shot yesterday. Could a reaction take that long? We can't figure out what else it could be.... Are there just simple contact welts/hives sometimes?
  7. Feminism is an ideology. What you have a problem with is branches of the feminist MOVEMENT. The same thing can be said about Christianity. I'm assuming you don't say that Christianity is bad because their are people with more extreme viewpoints that you disagree with.
  8. Thanks so much for the feedback! I had no idea there were so many options. :)
  9. Is there such a thing? It seems like most curricula assume kids outgrow the fun, colorful pages. What about the older child who still needs that to maintain interest?
  10. I'm not okay with devastated either, so I completely understand! I'm sure you'll do whatever is best for both of you. :) And I consider myself fortunate to have had a milk addict, too. I didn't have problems nursing, but I did have a very traumatic birth. I really think that is why I was so determined to make nursing work; I just needed SOMETHING to go right!! It's funny how something as basic as feeding a baby can have so much emotional significance!
  11. I'm a vegetarian, so low carb is difficult that way. I have had a harder time losing weight just by counting calories as I have gotten older, but found (artificial) low carb has worked. I don't at all feel I need to do this to MAINTAIN, though(lucky me). And most importantly, I just need something easy right now or it isn't going to get done. This product is actually all veggies, fruits, nuts, etc. and doesn't even have a vitamin supplement in it, so I'm pleased to have found it! My ideal diet would actually be Eat to Live. :) I'm hoping to make that happen with a garden this summer, because it is not at all in the budget. At all.
  12. Who does this and why? Did you start LC due to a health condition? Should I be concerned about complications?? I am planning on a Raw Meal diet, and assume it will function like LC. I've done LC several times before, but worry deep down that I might break an organ for some reason or something. :bored: http://gardenoflife.com/Products-for-Life/Foundational-Nutrition/RAW-Meal.aspx
  13. That last face was supposed to be  My tablet is stupid and won't let me fix it.
  14. You will have to choose to believe me when I say that I never, ever thought I would be telling someone that crying is okay. :) It's okay if you sit with her in her room until she falls asleep, too. Some people have good luck with an alarm clock that shows a color for sleep, and a color for getting up. Maybe you could try adding something to her routine that you could do when she wakes up, like a white noise machine. You would have to decide if that might create more work down the road, though. I do have a friend that had a serios discussion with her toddler about sleeping through the night, and it actually worked. :o
  15. I think it just depends on how desperate you are. If she's crying, but you're holding her the whole time, it's not at all the same as letting her cry it out alone. I guess I feel like we can't expectbabies to understand why we don't want them not to do something that they want to do. If we know the desire isn't a need anymore, then as human beings with needs of our own, it's okay to decide for them, and ALSO okay for them to be upset about it. We can support them through it in a loving way, and it's okay. Those are my thoughts on this, having come from the expectation that we must make sure our children never cry.
  16. Tears or not, when you're ready to be done, it's worth it! Even kids that still nurse to sleep can be night weaned. :)
  17. The naturopath in my area says you actually only need about a pinch per dose, not the whole tube.
  18. This has nothing to do with the thread topic... but how is it having kids six years apart? I was supposed to be having my third child about now, according to plan. I have a newly five y.o.... and a bunch of cats. I worry that, even if we have another one, they won't be friends or playmates.
  19. Matilda is my favorite. Estella sounds like a grandmother's name to me. :)
  20. What did you do, and how long did it take??
  21. I appreciate hearing everyone's perspectives and stories. When I was a kid, my grandparents drove with me to Florida, 24 hours away, with only a catnap at a rest stop, because they didn't want to spend money on a hotel. Dh was raised to be less frugal. LOL He only gets 10 days of vacation time this yeat, plus the adjoining weekends if he takes it right, so the timing of all of this isn't really ideal. I just don't want to be away from my five-year-old all that time. :( We will also likely have very few family vacations over all, so I hate to throw this chance away, even though it's not perfect. Disney might not ever happen. Colonial Williamsburg homeschool week might not happen. I don't want to live for a maybe that might not happen.
