  1. I'm starting colors and counting to ten with my 13 month old. I've heard of many 18-24 month olds who knew these things, along with shapes, alphabet, etc. If you have experience doing this with this age range (I'm not actually looking for advice on if it's a good idea in the first place, I feel comfortable with my decision ;) ), do you feel it's better to introduce one topic at a time, then wait for mastery before moving on to the next topic? Or should I just incorporate many ideas on a daily basis (I simply point out these things as they come up in our day, "Look, your book is red! Red!" sort of thing) and she will sort the ideas out as she is ready? I just don't want to overload her with information... but I suppose EVERYTHING is a new learning experience for them at this age, and they manage it all just fine in the end, right? Thanks!
  2. Don't you feel like allowing them to enjoy learning in this way makes "regular" reading boring? I don't want them to expect to be entertained in this way, you know? Also, how old was your dd when she started reading? And I'm assuming you used the DVD (is it more than one? I have no idea), then when she was interested, you started something else?
  3. Do/can children learn to read sooner with the use of technology? I really don't like the idea of using tv, computers, etc., but I keep hearing people rave about Letter Factory, etc. for teaching their kids phonics. Do these types of materials hold a younger child's interest more than simply going through a phonics instruction book, say 100 EZ Lessons, etc.? Thanks!
  4. Gee, this site has everything! LOL I think of a question, and someone else has already asked it for me! I love it! To the OP, God bless you for not trying to reign your dd in. You will have fun with her! :)
  5. Would this have worked if you had started at 3, do you think? I'm just researching phonics programs that can truly be used at whichever age your child is ready. :001_smile:
