  1. I am looking for someone who may have experience/knowledge regarding the government EE series savings bonds. When these bonds come "due" what can be done with them? We are specifically trying to figure out if there is a way to use them for educational expenses (like dual enrollment class tuition) without having to pay tax. Does anyone know anything about this, or happen to know who would be the best type of person to speak with about this? Thanks MUCH!!! (posting on College Board also)
  2. transientChris -- Where are you located? I'm in your area. PM if you'd like.
  3. Congrats! I love hearing things like this, and would like to hear more about the program as well.
  4. I asked this very same question several months back. I am very interested to hear how things go. We are fairly certain that we will have our dd starting the BUHS program next fall.
  5. Could you tell me why you've been told not to bother with Python? Is it a language that's on it's way out? If so, what are the computer languages that students should use to prepare for the future? Thanks.
  6. Bassoonaroo -- Thanks so much for the information on Python. My dd is anxious to give that a try. I went and looked up the Hello World book and wanted to let you know that the reviews say that it was written for python 2.5 and doesn't work with python 3 (which apparently is what is being used currently). Not a programmer myself, so I am totally clueless about all of this.
  7. Thanks for all this incredibly helpful information. Greatly appreciated!!
  8. I would be ever so grateful if one of you lovely ladies who is a great "searcher" of the forums would assist me. I do not understand how I can search for a specific phrase or a title without the search splitting it into separate words. I have tried quotation marks and using the + sign between words and that doesn't work. What do I input to search if I would like to search for something such as "AP Computer Science" and I don't want every instance of "AP" & "computer" and "science" to show up. I just want the complete phrase or title that I am looking for. Help anyone??
  9. Anyone have an experience with any of these books? Homeschooling High School: Planning Ahead for College Admission, Revised Jeanne Gowen Dennis Creating Your High School Portfolio Life Prep for Homeschooled Teenagers The Complete Career, College, and High School Guide for Homeschoolers Jill J. 10. K-Fl, I am interested in picking your brain with some specifics I have regarding what you posted about DE. Could I PM you? Thanks
  11. Oh Lavender, please PM. I have plenty of info from the retail pharmacy side, so I'd love to hear about the hospital side.
  12. Thanks for the response Violet. I am hoping that within the next couple of years she will start feeling called into a specific area so that if pharmacy is high on the list, we can plan for the 0-6 programs.
  13. lavendar, So if I am reading (different university sites & your post) correctly, then it really would be best to make a decision prior to getting a 4yr degree, correct? One would really only want to get the first 2 yrs in before going to pharmacy school -- if the goal is to go to school for the shortest length possible to get that degree? Thanks.
  14. Thanks for these replies. My oldest dd could possibly be on the path to pharmacy, but she could possibly be on the path to a lot of things. She is extremely self-motivated. She has many interests, but nothing that she has her heart set on at this time. This means that we need to plan ahead for many different scenarios. She likes piano, but she is also very good in math and sciences. She just truly doesn't have a real sense of what she might like to do. When I looked up the pharmacy information at Butler (closest pharm school to us), it appeared that you had to know before entering your undergrad that you were going into pharmacy school and that everything is "tracked" from the first moment forward. I need to look into other programs, but it seems a bit difficult to figure this all out (as opposed to just a 4 yr degree). So if the scenario was that she got a BS in some Bio/Chem field (as though she was preparing for dentisty, med school, OT, pharmacy, etc), how many years would she then need to go afterwards for her PharmD? Just 2 more years? That's where a lot of my confusion lies. Thanks for the help!
  15. If one had the slightest interest in going to pharmacy school, what would be the very best courses for high school. I realize that very good scores on the SAT/ACT and other tests would be needed, of course, but as far as math and science go. . .what types would one need? Also, are all pharmacy programs 0-6 years -- meaning you must declare and enter as a known pharmacy track, or are there other options? Can you have an associates and get credit for that, then go another 4 years? Or can you have even more than that -- maybe even closer to a Bachelors and then enter pharmacy school for 2 or more years? I am very confused how that all works and the university that I've looked into makes it appear the only option is 0-6 all the way through. Thanks for any help.
  16. I'm posting this on the College board as well, but thought maybe someone here might also have some information. 17. Yes, that's a question I have as well. How do you determine what percentage receives the A+, A, A- and so forth?
  18. Yes indeed!! Bought some at convention and am very excited to be using them this year. I plan to use one for myself also. I just love how you can include authors, scientists, world leaders, and even your own ancestors on it!
  19. OMGoodness!!!!! The kids and I were just going through their school things and getting their new notebooks ready. I told 2 of them to go to the school room and get their new Spelling Workout workbook pages that I had ripped out to put in their notebooks. All of a sudden they pull brand new workbooks off their shelves and say "Um, mom, we already had new workbooks for G and H. You didn't need to buy them." AAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!! They were very apologetic, but it wasn't their fault. Had I just walked into their room and looked on their shelves prior to placing my order, I would NOT have spent the $40+ on items I already own. Bless their hearts, they tried to make me feel better by reminding me that I can use 2 of them for their younger sister, so now I just have 2 brand new books I don't need. I had done the same thing with a student book of MUS earlier this year.
  20. Oh yes, I forgot to add the Barron's Painless Math Word Problems to my list earlier. I purchased it the other day at Half Price Books for $3.98. I also got the Painless Algebra book. They are both very good.
  21. I purchased the math word problem books from Critical Thinking Co. So far I own Math Word Problems Book 1, Book 2, Math Word Problems Level C, and Algebra Word Problems Book 1. These are very good books, but not cheap. I also picked up a copy of 100 Math Tips for the SAT by Charles Gulotta. My dd who took the ACT last year) and I were looking through it last night and it looks fabulous. Hope this helps.
