  1. You could try the Feingold diet http://www.feingold.org/ it is a type of elemination diet.
  2. In my opinion that is condescending and absurd. You could make a list of all the useful things you uses the internet for and maybe that could show him the purpose of it.
  3. I 'could', but I think it would be sad to do so- we use the internet to access SO much information and it helps me connect with friends I otherwise just wouldn't connect with so I count it as my social outlet which I need for my mental health as a busy SAH HSing mom. I would have to live within walking distance of a library or have a laptop with wireless so I could access the internet at Starbucks or something if we didn't have internet access at home. But we don't have cable TV, don't watch regular TV at all (can't stand commercial television, it drives us all nuts) we just use Netflix and buy DVDs instead. Ditching regular TV helped our sanity a lot so I would ask DH to compromise by just ditching the TV for now to see how things improve. I'd ask him what is it specifically about the internet that he hates so much- is it that you all don't seem to be connecting with each other because of too much internet usage? Is it some crazy conspiracy theory? LOL I'd look for other ways to solve any problems he has with it because it really can make HSing so much easier, especially those times when you are feeling isolated.
  4. :grouphug: IMO it's the rude people who shouldn't leave the house. I got that same comment from so many people with my 2nd, and subsequent pregnancies. The one that really got to me was the Ombudsman for my DH's command at that time- she was a Chief's wife AND she was also pregnant and due around the same time as me. If you've only gained 26 pounds I think you are doing great. I try to have some short and not offensive comebacks in stock after I encounter such behavior. "Well, I'm growing a whole new person in there, human babies are bigger than kittens ya know." Or if I'm feeling down and cranky I may just say, "Gee, thanks for that insight. Are there any other insults you'd like to toss my way or is it safe to say you're done for now?"
  5. IDK, I just feel so scatterbrained all the time unless I'm focused on something specific but I don't have lots of energy. I am NOT going to read any more of that other thread though, it was a downer and not good reading for a person who already feels down about feeling scattered. So, my orders are do NOT open that thread again, even if you posted a reply. It's NOT helpful to you in any way. If you have ADD you can't change that, so reading the complaints of others who have a spouse with ADD will NOT bring anything positive into your life. :grouphug:
  6. On a side note, we recently watched Animals Are Beautiful People- a documentary on Netflix Instant. It was amusing and there are a couple of scenes with elephants in it. It's an older doc. from the 70s, we all enjoyed it.
  7. Africa's Elephant Kingdom Kandula: An Elephant Story Echo and Other Elephants Whispers (Disney movie)
  8. M/D/Y is what we were taught in school, and I guess it has just stuck. 12 years of writing M/D/Y on the top of every page we turned in kinda ingrains it, KWIM? Now I get all confuzzled when I'm filling out paperwork for the military, or signing a form underneath DH's signature because the military uses D/M/Y. It's really embarrassing, I kind of just freeze for a minute while trying to figure out HOW to write the date on the form.
  9. You are very welcome! Conquering the world,
  10. I hear you! I think I need to move the big TV to my bedroom and just hole up in bed with some foreign movies and lots of books, and maybe solitaire. Last week was a doozie and I am so crabby today. Long road trip, relatives visiting (some stayed with us, some didn't), planning a big move, DH hurt his back= too much interaction with 'outsiders', not nearly enough down time and one fried momma. Have you ever seen the movie Overboard? I've been feeling a bit 'buh buh buh buh' lately. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RndG23-Vu-k&feature=related
  11. If it helps any, DH has been having back pain and the military is having him see a Chiro every other weekday. They have a Chiro at the clinic for active duty military for neck and back injuries. I was rather shocked by it, but DH is slowly improving-so long as he doesn't do ANY bending or lifting. One day this weekend he started moving around like 'normal' and it was just too soon, he ended up in worse pain that evening. So make sure you take it nice and slow with the getting back to normal once you feel up to it. He is also using an ice pack 5-6 times a day, (he was told to lie down in the floor with his legs propped up on a chair with the ice pack underneath his lower back) and is wearing a back brace.
  12. I read the first part of the essay, it was very interesting. Thanks for sharing that, I hope more folks have interesting bits to share. Thanks for asking this Carrie. :)
  13. :iagree: I think it's great that there are some landlords that respect their tenants privacy. I guess after living in rentals or military housing for over 16 years I just expect to have at least a yearly inspection- either for lease renewal or for safety (in military housing they inspect the furnace/AC, change batteries in smoke detectors and test them, make sure the carbon monoxide detectors are working, etc. Sometimes they would notify us that a pest control company would be paying us a visit to spray for bugs. Here we've had an appraiser pay us a visit to take pics of the whole house as the LL was taking out a loan, a chimney inspector, people checking for termites, and I'm sure I'm leaving something out. If you don't have yearly inspections be grateful, but don't expect such leniency from all landlords.
  14. Absolutely not, the 'grounds' are that she owns the property and wants to inspect it she does not have to provide ANY other reason. Seriously, if you do not want to deal with any inspections by the actual home owner then maybe you can look into buying your own home. There's nothing unreasonable about the owner wanting to inspect their property. You can't base your relationship with the owner based on the tenants who lived there in the past. The owners rights do not disappear when they do not meet your expectations, KWIM? The condition of the place when you moved in, the maintenance that isn't being done are separate issues from the owner having the right to inspect their property.
  15. Legally, if you refuse to allow her to enter your home then she can throw you out. She'd have to give a 30 day notice. You 'can' tell her whatever you want, but legally you have no leg to stand on. She owns the place and has a right to inspect it. Sorry. If you are living in unsafe conditions don't you have a city/county inspectors office you can go through to force her to fix the problems? Or have you tried that already? If you are already planning to move then don't worry about extra cleaning for her 'inspection'. I wouldn't want to p!ss her off- she could give a bad referral to any other landlords you wish to rent from. You said you have 'left her notes' and called her about things that need repaired- in the future make sure you are legally covered by submitting maintenance requests in writing, make a copy for yourself and send it certified mail to the landlord in addition to any quick notes or phone calls you make to bring the problem to their attention. Always be very formal about such things and make sure you keep a paper trail going. :grouphug:
  16. You need to read your lease- generally speaking if your landlord gives you a 24 hour notice, or in the case of an emergency they can enter your house with or without your permission. Most prefer to schedule inspections and such at a time when the tenant will be present but it's not absolutely necessary. The property management company who manages our current rental now does inspections every 6 months. I don't blame them at all, some people are horrible about rental properties and don't respect the rules. Frequent inspections give them the opportunity to see if the tenant is taking care of things or not, see if they have things they are forbidden to have on the property such as pets, a pool, a trampoline, a swingset anything else they specifically forbid in the lease.
  17. I think we pay about $32 and get 5 at a time- one for me, one for Dh, one for Oldest, one for DS and one for the two youngest. It works really well for us, it's cheaper than paying for cable so we don't mind paying more for more DVDs. We've been watching the series Leverage recently and have enjoyed it.
