  1. There's a place here that offers this. I have always seen it advertised as a pain management type thing, not a just relaxation thing. I have a friend who goes once every couple of weeks since being in a nasty car accident. She says it helps her body from aching for 45 mins. I injured my back a couple of yrs ago and still have excruciating pain, so I have thought about trying it out to see. Would be an interesting experience if nothing else.
  2. Margaret Atwood - Alias Grace Also, if she hasn't read it yet, The Handmaids Tale is a must-read IMO.
  3. The Outport People by Clare Mowat (Farley Mowats wife) - its a fictional memoir of a woman's experience being transplanted to an isolated Newfoundland village.
  4. The glades!!! And I agree - the way they ended it was just horrible. I binge watch the whole thing once in a while and love it still. I was laid up for 4 weeks with a back injury recently and watched every single episode lol. Such a good show. I also miss Dharma and Greg. And Will and Grace.
  5. Oh and Arrow! Stephen Amel (sp?). He is my tv crush. The show is goofy as heck but he's easy on the eyes.
  6. Hannibal Criminal Minds Walking Dead SoA I'm hoping there will be another True Detective season.
  7. Definitely not scary but I am probably a skewed judge of that as I read a lot of horror/dark stuff. Wolf Gift was one of the first of Rices novels after her brief strange departure from the horror genre. And it is back to her beautifully written type of darker fiction. I've read every one of her books, even the ones she wrote in her foray into religious fiction, and have never found her stuff scary though, so again - take my words with some salt lol
  8. This thread has made me realize its been a while since I have read for pleasure - I need to rectify this :P Kite Runner American Gods by Neil Gaiman Wolf Gift by Anne Rice (there didnt seem to be a good place to stop reading so I read most of it in one sitting but I'm an obsessive fan of Anne Rice) Autumn by David Moody (it's a zombie series so not everyone's taste obviously)
  9. This. It was on our short list for my daughters names and we were planning to pronounce it like in the books :)
  10. I find her judgment of the young man to be the saddest part here. Overall I just came away with this feeling that she is projecting her own baggage onto not just the young girls but the young man as well. How could she POSSIBLY know what anyone's motives are, or what is in the hearts of any other person?! She should perhaps turn her reflection and judgment to herself and quit spending her Sunday mornings ruminating over the lives and hearts of others.
  11. My 6 and 8 yr old drink caffeinated tea a few times a week. My youngest loves tea so I try to keep her to rooibos or herbals as much as I can but she loves some of the black teas I have here and we like to share a small pot of tea in the afternoons.
  12. Glove compartment Glove box Growing up on the canadian east coast, my dad called it the dash compartment or dash console (since it's under the dashboard). But I think I usually call it one of the two above terms, interchangeably.
  13. In Ontario it's 8 yrs old OR 80 lbs OR 4'9 - as a minimum. My 8.5 yr old is out of his booster seat in my pickup truck and my partners Civic. But he uses a backless booster in my Moms Ford Fusion. The seatbelts and seats are different depending on which vehicle. We use the 5 pt rule as a general guideline. Fwiw he's pushing 5' tall at not yet 9 yrs old. My kids are tall.
  14. This sums it up for me also. As a single mom (well, formerly single) whose ex husband is only in the kids lives almost peripherally, I get a little annoyed when he starts acting all hard done by because life as a single dad is soooo tough. I would be more annoyed if I witnessed him getting pats on the back for his hard times as a single dad. However, in other contexts the term "single dad" is accurate and useful.
  15. Ha! I thought the same thing when I just read Farrars post lol. Not to sound like a creepy Internet stalker but I LOVE reading farrars bw posts! It was some of her posts here and on the secular site that made me even look at Bravewriter initially. And I agree that this will not just be for noobs like me :)
  16. I told my partner that I easily spend twice this amount in fast food coffees every month - so I would forgo my takeout coffee to help balance the costs of the Alliance. I'm really lookin forward to it.
  17. Definitely not inappropriate in my home. We have skully stuff as decor around our house, my kids love skulls on their clothing and same with my partner and I.
  18. Me!! I missed out on the retreat, and so I told my partner that I really wanted to give this a run for a couple of months and see how it works out for us. I've always said I wish I could just have Julie in my back pocket for advice - this is sorta along those lines lol I've been stalkin my email for registration info lol.
  19. I'm really sorry. I know all too well how you are feeling. (((hugs)))
  20. Our schools don't start back until Sept 3rd here but we are starting today anyway. Kids are actually excited to be doing more with our days. :)
  21. It hurts. The location on your body will affect the pain level a little - my MOST painful was my calf...followed closely by my inner forearm. Those HURT. My chest didn't hurt, bicep area doesn't hurt, outer forearm didn't really hurt much. My very first tattoo when I was 18? I thought I was going.to.die. However, after that one I didn't get another til I was nearly 30 and had both of my kids. After natural childbirth, tattoos now feel not that awful. Just breathe slowly, close your eyes, and do not tense your muscles. Tensing your muscles will make you feel really exhausted after just a short while. I know some people like to take breaks, but I can't - I just tell the artist to give er, and get it done. If we stop and then they put that tattoo gun to me again to finish it, it HURTS. Honestly? I liken it to childbirth - if you breathe slow and deep, relax your muscles, then the endorphins will kick in (and your skin will go a little numb from the needle) and you will feel like you will get through it alive :) I think the endorphin rush is part of the reason some folks get so hooked on ink! ;) Enjoy your first tattoo - it will hurt, but it will totally be worth it.
  22. Weird. We do this too! We have a Not Back To School picnic at a beach in our town. Makes me wonder which part of Ontario you are from, perchance we are neighbours ;)
  23. There are definitely things my kids could do in their lives that would upset me, or that I couldn't support in my heart. But I would keep that to myself. It's my baggage, not theirs. Quite frankly, maybe I'm biased since I am heavily tattoo'd lol, but if a tattoo - ONE TATTOO!! - is the worst things my kids ever do? I will consider myself a successful parent.
  24. I have quite a few. With quite a few more to come :) All of mine are large and very visible. I don't regret any. I have an amazing tattoo artist, she does beautiful work. And we think through every piece with a lot of design consultations.
  25. No kiddin'. I want to see what sort of mother in law she's gonna be. Some poor gal is in for a bumpy ride, is my guess.
