  1. On the YWAM website you can find a list of the missionaries and their country of service. There is also a map that marks where they served that I found to be especially helpful. Amy
  2. $32.95 + $28.95 = $61.90 If you pre-order before Dec. 1, you will receive 10% off and free shipping which brings the total to $55.71. Amy
  3. Does anyone know what the differences are between the 1st edition and the 2nd edition? Amy
  4. Journey Through Learning has An Overview of the 20th Century Lapbook with Study Guide. http://www.ajourneythroughlearning.net/ovof20ceunst.html They also have lapbooks with study guides for the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. I love that the lapbook pieces are in color and I really like the information that is in the study guides.
  5. Last year my daughter was in 4th grade and we used the following for Ohio History: Ohio Adventures in Time and Place, elementary textbook from McGraw-Hill (this can be purchased cheaply through Amazon used books; I did not use the TM but there is one available) http://www.amazon.com/Ohio-Adventures-Place-Banks-James/dp/0021491143/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1281095757&sr=8-1 Heroes of Ohio book (there is also a coloring book available) http://www.sowash.com/books/heroes.html Ohio map study: major cities, some rivers, and bordering states For 5th grade, we will continue with the map study and use Around Ohio in 80 Days http://www.aroundin80days.com/ProductPage2.asp?CategoryID=2 (New York is also available) Also, on our time-line we have included presidents and famous people from Ohio. I mount these items on green paper so they are easy to see.

  7. I highly recommend Latin Practice Exercises Level 1. We own this book and I think it would be great for your son. You can look at a sample on-line but it doesn't show very much. The sample is of the first pages so it is very simple but if you look at the table of contents, you can get a better idea of what is covered. There is also a story to translate at the beginning of each section which is not shown in the sample. My daughter has finished the first 5 chapters of Latin Prep 1 and this book is a good fit for her. I think Latin Practice Exercises Level 1 goes nicely with Latin Prep 1. Book: http://www.galorepark.co.uk/product/parents/994/latin-practice-exercises-level-1.html Answer Key: http://www.galorepark.co.uk/product/parents/1001/latin-practice-exercises-level-1-answers.html Amy
  8. We bought Animusic 1 for my son when he was in 6th grade. The demos will give you a good feel for what it is like and it is good for all ages. You might also enjoy Stomp Out Loud http://www.amazon.com/Stomp-Out-Loud-Michael-Bove/dp/0783113331/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1273236821&sr=8-1. We enjoyed both and most likely will be available through your library.
  9. We have completed 5 of the lapbooks in the Continents Series from In the Hands of a Child. Included in each project pack is quite a bit of information about each continent, vocabulary, lapbook/activity pages, and a book list. The book list is nice but not required; all the information you need to complete the lapbook is included in the research guide section. (I have Asia for sale if interested.) Amy
  10. LFC and Latin Prep work nicely together. After completing LFC A and half of B we decided to take a break from LFC and focus on grammar/translating for awhile. We have now completed Latin Prep 1 chapters 3-5 (we skipped ch. 1-2). We were able to focus on the translating with Latin Prep since we knew almost all of the vocabulary from using LFC. We have now picked LFC B back up and once we finish we will go back and finish Latin Prep 1. My long term plans are to go on to LFC C (because I believe it is the best program for learning vocabulary and chants) and Latin Prep 2 and 3. My daughter is 4th grade this year and I am very pleased with our progress with Latin using LFC and LP. I recommend purchasing Latin Prep 1, answer book, workbooks, and workbook answers. I didn't purchase the CD; you shouldn't need it since you have completed LFC.
  11. I plan to have my 10 year old use Typing Instructor Deluxe this summer because I already own it; my older children used it several years ago. This link was sent out to my homeschool group last year: http://keyboardclassroom.com/page/show/home. I have watched the demos and it looks really good. Is anyone familiar with Keyboard Classroom? It looks like the finger guides can be purchased separately now.
  12. Anyone? I would like to know how all the history TM have changed, not just 1815 to Present.
  13. I am wanting to purchase a Veritas Press history TM for 1815 to Present but I am having a hard time figuring out what is different between the 1st edition and 2nd edition. I know that the 2nd edition includes the answers and I know that answers for the 1st edition TM can be downloaded. Other than this, what else was changed/added? I read somewhere that the 2nd edition TM is about 100 more pages so it has to be more than just that the answers are included. I called VP but they weren't very helpful. Amy
  14. We used LFC A last year (third grade) and are now half-way through LFC B. Because of the great chanting done with LFC, I think it is one of the best programs to learn vocabulary, declensions, etc. While loving LFC, my daughter and I decided that we wanted more practice translating. After much research I decided on Latin Prep. Latin Prep 1 has been perfect for us-clear explanations and enjoyable sentences/stories. It moves very quickly so we are taking it slow. There is no previous Latin required for LP but I think it would be petty tough without some background in Latin. Our LFC background is really helping; we know so much vocabulary and declension chants that we can focus on grammar and translating with LP. We were also able to skip the first two chapters in LP. For now we are taking a break from LFC B to give us time to focus on LP and to review vocabulary that we have learned so far. We definitely plan on picking LFC B back up in the near future. For us, LFC and Latin Prep have been a great combination. I highly recommend the workbooks that go along with Latin Prep 1 and this workbook from Galore Park is also very good for additional practice http://www.galorepark.co.uk/product/parents/994/latin-practice-exercises-level-1.html. I recommend you looking up some older post about Latin. Laura Corin and Abbeyej were especially helpful to me when I was trying to find out more about LP.
  15. I am trying to find out more information about Building Christian Character by Blair Adams. http://www.rainbowresource.com/product/Building+Christian+Character+Book/019456/1265054431-1554588 The only sample pages I have been able to view are from the table of contents. Anyone use this book or know anything about the publisher Journey's Home (Heritage Ministries)?
  16. I just came across Simply Spelling (Laura Hicks) and Spelling Wisdom (Simply Charlotte Mason) this week and would also love to hear more about these two spelling/dictation books. Unfortunately, there are very few sample pages available on-line and I have been unable to find the sample pages for Simply Spelling from shoelacebooks.com.
  17. We have completed the first two books from Suffer Little Children and I highly recommend it. It has taken us more than a school year to finish each book; there is so much in each book. It will end up taking 4 school years to complete the three books (the entire Bible). I like using the Betty Lukens felt set along with Suffer Little Children, especially with younger children. The grade levels on the books are 1st-3rd but this curriculum can be used with many different ages at the same time. Before each lesson, I go through the lesson and mark the Bible verses beside the different points on the outline. Then I read a section from the outline and my daughter reads the scripture that it corresponds with. We prefer this over reading the whole passage at the beginning. Even without the felt set, this is a wonderful curriculum and my daughter has a very good understanding of the Bible and is also able to find the Bible passages quickly on her own. There are workbooks that go along with book 2 and 3 but we have not used those so I can't comment on them. Also, the suggested memory verses can be used for memory work or for copywork. This Bible curriculum can be purchased here http://www.rfpa.org/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=9 and at christianbook.com. Amy
  18. I would not rule out MC because of the price. I don't see any reason why using a separate notebook would be a problem. We will be starting Meaningful Composition 4 II next week and that is what we are planning on doing. My daughter has completed WT 1 and WT 2 and we are looking forward to starting MC.
  19. American Trivia Board Game http://www.amazon.com/Outset-Media-Corp-American-Trivia/dp/B000JVWPPI (this is the Junior Edition and there is also an Adult Edition available). Is this game worth the money and do you agree with the age recommendations? Junior Edition is for ages 9-15 and the Adult Edition is for 16+. My children are ages 10, 14, and 16. Thanks for any input you might have.
  20. We used Song School Latin for 2nd grade, LFC A in 3rd grade, and are currently using LFC B for 4th grade. This has been a good choice for us. We have enjoyed learning the vocabulary and chants from the DVD's and CD's. I highly recommend using this grammar book from Galore Park starting about half way through LFC A: http://www.bookdepository.co.uk/search?searchTerm=+Latin+Practice+Exercises+Level+1+&search=%3CSPAN%3E%3CEM%3EFind%26nbsp%3Bbook%3C%2FEM%3E%3C%2FSPAN%3E. This is a great way to reinforce the grammar taught in LFC and most of the vocabulary is covered in LFC. Brief grammatical information accompanies the exercises. The exercises have you translating Latin-English and English-Latin. Also, starting with chapter 5 there are short stories in Latin to read. I have never felt that LFC moves to quickly but it would be easy to slow the pace down if needed. Each lesson could be spread over two weeks instead of one.
  21. I am using this with a 4th grader. You can view and print the first chapter here: http://www.galorepark.co.uk/product/parents/994/latin-practice-exercises-level-1.html.
  22. We purchased the mastery bundle for LfC Primer A but did not end up using the history reader or the activity book. There are some that love the activity book, but we stopped using it after the first 7 or 8 lessons. I felt it was "busy" work that was not adding to our learning. I just purchased a Latin grammar workbook that goes nicely along with LfC. We are using it along with LfC B but if I would have known about it last year we would have started it about half way through LfC A. http://www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=latin+practice+exercises+level+1+&search=search There are 3 levels available. Most of the vocabulary in level 1 is covered in LfC A which makes it very compatible.
  23. We used LfC A last year and are using LfC B this year. The chants are great and we have learned a great amount of vocabulary. I feel that it is a little lacking in grammar and felt we needed some additional practice. I found a Latin grammar workbook that we are using this year. If I would have known about it sooner, we would have started using it half way through LfC A. http://www.bookdepository.com/search?searchTerm=latin+practice+exercises+level+1+&search=search This book is published by Galore Park and there are 3 levels. Most of the vocabulary in level 1 is covered in LfC A which makes it very compatible.
  24. We really like the Portfolio oil pastels. They are very good quality for a reasonable price. I purchased our sets through Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Crayola-12ct-Oil-Pastels-Portfolio/dp/B00006IEFL/ref=pd_sbs_t_3. We liked the 12 count set so much that I also ordered the 24 count set. They are not messy and give a great look to my daughter's (9 1/2 yrs. old) art work.
