  1. Aww, I thought it was going to be a sign with a big "NO" on it. It's pretty much always my answer to those threads.
  2. Ds was wondering today if there are any white, black, purple or red taxis in other places since we don't have those in our city. He suggested I ask here because "they know everything" (yes, I've been talking about all of you). We have yellow, orange, green, and blue taxis. What colours do you have? (and what country if you feel like sharing) We are in Canada.
  3. Wonderful news!! Welcome, little Caden! May you be healthy and strong and be able to come home to your loving family soon.
  4. We usually play with 10. 8-12 people is really ideal for the game.
  5. A break sounds like a great idea, if you can actually do it. We recently took a "break" too... The first day ds said "finally I have time to do what I want to do" and promptly got out all our science stuff, followed by the math stuff. He spent the week writing books, reading mythology and science books, doing science experiments (and documenting them), doing timed math drills, and working on a bunch of art projects. All of it was initiated by him. I spent the week working out a detailed plan for school for next year and making lists of books to order, so I perhaps know where he gets it from. The week was exhausting and I was glad to return to our regular schooling. Lol!
  6. Tellestrations Party is now requested at EVERY family party we have or attend. We have had so much fun with this game. It's like pictionary, but it doesn't matter if you can't draw (and none of us can!) and everyone is busy drawing or writing at the same time. You alternate drawing and secretly writing what you think someone else's drawing represents. By the end of a round you have either drawn or guessed at every booklet (one per person). At the end people share how their word morphed as it got passed around (like the telephone game). We often end up in tears we are laughing so hard.
  7. Thinking of you and sending positive thoughts. :grouphug:
  8. It was a Dark and Stormy Night Tashi (get the 990+ page compilation one, he will be so proud of reading a huge book)
  9. Guess who's DH came home last night with a big spool? :). He got it from a place that does electrical installation. Now I need to find bowls -- hopefully the dollar store has some the right size. We definitely need to sand the spool and will probably paint it with an outdoor deck paint. We're going to get this "chemistry" set for our 2yo so he has his own science tools that look like his brother's: http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Primary-Science-Lab/dp/B00LD6UI9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429970264&sr=8-1&keywords=learning+kids+chemistry+set
  10. Thinking of you today and hoping the two of you enjoy sleeping past 6, eating a leisurely breakfast in pjs, and having a fun day!
  11. We own some, but the others we borrow from our library. They already had a few, and I put in a request for them to purchase another 8 or 9. They did buy most of the ones I requested. (yay!) ds' favourites include Just So Stories, Greek Myths, and King Arthur.
  12. We plan to do BA after Miquon. We have 3A sitting on the shelf and ds is very excited and looking forward to it.
  13. Thank you for updating us. I really am hopeful for you for a good outcome since you caught it early. Try not to worry. Take care of yourself and snuggle up with Max and Alex. :grouphug:
  14. It was a one hour window, ds was in the house, nothing else was taken or messed up, and the thief closed the door when leaving. It sounds really unlikely to me. Although he remembers putting it on the table, perhaps he picked it up later and doesn't remember that part. Maybe it is in his room. Desk drawer? Backpack? Laundry hamper?
  15. Keyboarding Without Tears has worked well for us this year. Ds actually requests to do it.
  16. I have no advice, but will be thinking of you. Go to the hospital if things change for the worse or if your intuition tells you to. :grouphug:
  17. I was concerned about water and food colouring leaving stains, so for our indoor "lab" I bought several different colours of dish soap. Ds can add water and mix them together and the colour washes off everything. He started off with three, but over time he has added three more as we've found them on sale. He gets really excited when he gets a new colour soap! We use Dawn detergent, but not the antibacterial ones. He also has salt, rice, vinegar, baking powder, and aluminum foil in his lab. He has a plastic test tube set that gets a lot of use: http://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Jumbo-Test-Tubes/dp/B004ALRJKE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429473263&sr=8-1&keywords=learning+test+tubes
  18. I just learned that utility companies have these spools, so if you can't get one from a hardware store, check your phone company or power line installers.
  19. WOW!! My children would LOVE this! Thank you so much for posting it. Older ds has already turned my laundry room into a science lab, but an outdoor space that he can share with his little brother would be so awesome! It sounds like hardware stores would be the place for the spools. What would originally come on a spool that big?
  20. Yet! Maybe in the future someone will have a baby on April 12 and be all excited to name their little one after Maximillian Sebastian Charles, the famous scientist, mathematician, inventor extraordinaire! And yes, I came back to the post just to get another peek at your adorable baby. :) Congrats again! :hurray:
  21. 8% of children in the U.S. have food allergies. Having food in the classroom and having it be semi-mandatory further isolates these children. It also seems like a huge additional risk towards children having an allergic reaction at school.
  22. He is DARLING!! Welcome, little Maximillian. Congratulations to you and your family. I'll bet Alex is so excited!
