  1. Thanks for this - we have been needing some remedial work in cursive as well, but trying to find something my older kids won't poo poo has been a bit tough. Appreciate it!
  2. I agree - I have really stressed myself out looking "too far down the road", but after 8 years homeschooling, I can see that sometimes we are ahead of the game and sometimes we are behind, and sometimes ahead in one subject and behind in another with the same kid. Now I really don't start freaking out until they are hitting high school - which is now. :001_smile: Until then, you have time - and I am sure I will find that even after they hit high school, I shouldn't have freaked out as I did. Hang in there!
  3. One more - http://www.donnayoung.org/penmanship/index.htm
  4. I thought Martin Luther was Martin Luther King's father up through high school. Then I started dating a Presbyterian...and married him. I know who he is now. And John Calvin. And John Knox. And lots of other people I didn't know about before. I love homeschooling.:)
  5. Thanks for this - I've been mulling over this one myself.
  6. We are doing Greek because hubby knows it. That's also why we are doing Spanish - 2 years in Peru. Practicality won out in our case. But I would at least like to get a bit of Latin in...in our spare time...
  7. and make the effort to be there for her for the long haul - and be flexible. Some days she may just want to be left alone. That's what one of my best friends tells me - she lost her 18mo. old and she says it meant a lot to have the people who continued to care for them even when they felt like they shouldn't be cared for anymore (because they were worried that people were thinking that they should be over it), but she said some days she really just wanted to be left alone. I have learned to flex with her and and be pretty honest with my inbtentions so she can say, "You know what, I appreciate the thought, but I really don't want that right now - or, "I really do want that right now." It's just going to be rough for a really long time. Praying.:grouphug:
  8. :grouphug: and :grouphug: and one more :grouphug:.
  9. From one book addict to another, there are worse vices to have. I choose to celebrate mine. And diet coke. Now a book and a diet coke and an afternoon of quiet, self-learning...bliss....
  10. Thanks! I have been mulling over this very issue. :)
  11. You don't need both. I did buy both because I thought it was necessary, but it's not. Just get the workbook - it was written as a help for those of us who don't want to pull everything together, but everything that you need to know from the book will be in the workbook.
  12. I think we should link this thread with the curriculum junkie thread. Do I go? Do I go???? Yes! I'm off to shop!!!!
  13. I have one who's outside voice is too loud...if you could imagine. He sounds like he is being drawn and quartered and he's just playing basketball. We work with him on it as a self-control issue. Helping him to become more aware of himself, and appropriate behavior - or civilizing him, as I think of it on the wackier days. While we don't want him to be ruled by people-pleasing, there is an element to being witnesses for Christ as being likable and considerate, and pleasant to be around. People flocked to be around Jesus - it was his message that was hard to swallow, not him.
  14. When I first heard my parents, I knocked on the door and firmly told them they needed to quit jumping on the bed - I was trying to sleep. I was 9 or 10 I think. I am just waiting for the day I will be having this conversation with one or more of mine. It's coming. I just know it...
  15. Yes, yes, yes.... all of it. I buy it, sell it, buy it again, sell it again, then tell myself I finally have figured out what we need to do, buy it again, throw all the catalogs away and when some nice person tries to tell me about a new and wonderful thing that will change the way I homeschool forever, I stick my fingers in my ears and yell, "BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH", then I begin the process of self-doubt, break down, and order the thing. Hi, my name is Heather and I am a homeschool curriculum junkie.
  16. I agree with the others on the playset. Once it's sold, the strings are cut. There is no ethical dilemma. We just had a group of ladies take everything leftover from our garage sale to sell in Mexico. If it helps them out...
  17. Best: Rainbow Resource, Amazon Worst: I don't really have any - I don't break out much. I do order from CBD, and aside from a back order here or there, I have not had any problems with them. I alos used to order a lot from Children's Books, but haven't really needed anything from them lately. Great sales, though.
  18. This may be obvious, since you mentioned that she has a nonverbal learning disability, but have you had her tested - like the complete battery of tests? It helped us to plan having a petty clear idea what was going on exactly.
  19. We used the Algebra and it has been great - and challenging. My 13 year-old son using it, is no slacker and has generally had a pretty easy go with math (we used Math-U-See). The Teaching Textbooks is definitely challenging for him (he is over half-way through the book - it gets challenging around lesson 50) and as far as I can see, the Algebra 1 actually finishes by introducing Algebra 2 concepts - at least I don't remember graphing until Algebra 2. If all of he TT were Mac-compatible, I would use them for all of my kids. It would make my life so much easier. ;)
  20. We did it and while it was a big 'ol pain, it looked soooooo muchy better. But be ready for many, many coats to get it fully covered - even with primer. ;)
  21. I would choose option B. I've had more space and less space. You figure it out, but I really get worn out being in the car a whole lot. The drive to the kids activities would drive me crazy.:)
