Well I did call the rescue organization last night and they did not call me back yet. I spoke to my nephew who works for Texas Parks and Wildlife and he told me that he would take it to work this morning. This morning (before my nephew took her) we tried to open the cage and see what she would do. She jumped out of the cage and flew off into the forest!! My nephew said that it was a Screech Owl. She was so pretty! Thanks for the responses to my post. Alexandra

So sad! I picked him up and have him in dog crate. I was going about 40 mph and he hit my windshield. Is it possible to survive that sort of impact? I have a contact for a wildlife rescue organization...if he survives the night. Not sure what type he is. He is about 10 inches tall and has tiny tufts of feathers on his ears. We are in Central Texas.

I need serious weight loss/exercise help!
Alexandra replied to Carol in Cal.'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
that wearing Crocs instead of houseshoes has really helped my PF. Someone also posted about drinking plenty of water to help with the inflammation - this helped as well. Good Luck! -

She and I chatted for about 15 minutes when I asked her what she did for a living. "Um...I am an actress." It was Dana Delaney. I had to ask someone later what she had been in. I never watch television! -
Does anyone have a chihuhua?
Alexandra replied to Sarah CB's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I love my chihuahuas but they are not the easiest to train. Right now mine have decided that it is not necessary to go through the fuss and bother of doing their business outside. They are 5 years old! They love my husband and me but could care less about our kids. I love, love my dogs but would not recommend them. My sister has a pug. I really love her dog. I told my sister that I intend to steal her dog one day. So sweet! Not much smarter than the chihuahuas but much sweeter and cuter personality by far. -
I would love to have the great soil and lack of weeds that the book tells me I would have but my gardens have been in a while. They are 4 x 20 raised beds. Should I dig out some of the soil and start from scratch with this method or could I just do a few small layers on top of what I already have? Thanks!

Donation in lieu of gift etiquette question.
Alexandra replied to Alexandra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
CD or Starving Children....hmmm. Now might the CD be a Mannheim Steamroller or Neil Diamond? Beatles...or Beach Boys? Hmmm...(gosh this is so hard!). Seriously you all can I just clarify my original question? I wanted to know about ETIQUETTE. If you wan to give money to a charity should you ask the person what charity they would like to support? After some thought it seems (to me) that it is a nice touch to ask for a specific name or cause. Just seems like it would make a thoughtful gesture even more so. Just my fabulous opinion of course. -
I have had several family members tell me that they intend to give a donation to XYZ organization in lieu of a gift to me or my children this year. Great I think...well not really. In one instance I did not really know we were exchanging gifts so now I feel obliged to give some money to an organization. In another instance the money is being given to The Battered Women's Shelter. I think that is fine but it is the shelter in the gift giver's town - not mine. Shouldn't they ask me where I want my donation to go or at least give to an organization that is local to me?

thanks for taking the time to post all these great ideas! -
So my little 15 week Catahoula can really chew! He does not like the regular stuff they sell for chewing like Kongs and nylabone. He wants stuff that he can consume. I bought him a Busy Bone which did give me about 25 minutes of peace but they are not for pupppies I found out later. It was quiet for about 10 minutes earlier this morning...you know the kind of quiet I am talking about? Well I tracked him down just as he galloped out of my bedroom with half a bra in his mouth!! I need to take him for his morning walk - I know that will help. In the meantime, could use some advice on how to keep this little Captain Destructo from wreaking havoc! Here is his utube premier if you want to see a naughty catahoula - I have posted it before and no I don't allow him to eat the grape.

My vet likes to wait until 5.5 - 6 mos to neuter males. She says neutering earlier impacts growth and bone development. Practicallly everyone else I know says they neutered their pups at 4 months. I have heard it said that waiting until 6 mos increases the possibilty of marking and other undesirable behaviors. Thanks for any thoughts on this.

I scorched my All-clad soup pot. I am not willing/able to replace it ($240.00!). I need a good soup pot though. I make soup 2-3 times a week even in the summer. Do I want a enamel dutch oven type or what would be a good candidate that won't break the pre-Christmas budget? Thanks!

I need "manly" book recommendations!!!
Alexandra replied to orangearrow's topic in General Education Discussion Board
It is about the Civil War. Men love this book! -
to see how your 12 yos will recover from a catastrophic farm vehicle accident. I have a dear, dear friend that could use a good book to read while she waits and waits. Her ds was in a rollover accident and has a very badly mangled leg. He will be in the hospital for a minimum of 3 weeks. She is a Christian. She has a wonderful sense of humor. I would love to give her an inspirational or humorous book to tuck in with some of the goodies I will be sending. Thanks

Anyone have a Shark Navigator vacuum?
Alexandra replied to KLynnTX's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Dh bought one a while back for the garage and outside stuff. I often use it indoors. It can change into a blower and work well for porches etc as well. He got it at Home Depot. You can come over and try it out...you can vacume just as much as you want to really see if you like it. Alexandra -

Anyone have a teen with bulimea?

I think that talk therapy would be so, so helpful with this sort of thing but if there is some sort of nutritional deficit it might be helpful/necessary to address that as well. Best of luck. Alexandra -
Is Typhus different from Typhoid?
Alexandra replied to Alexandra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just read a little about Cholera. Yikes! -
This is really a difficult thing to go through. Here are some things that helped. Walking with the baby. Warm water bottle on the baby's tummy. Baby swing. Infant massage. Does the baby have a particular colicky time of the day? You might be able to pre-empt it by going for a walk just before (take the baby :D). Also, if you think that it might be dietary, well I was told that it takes 2 weeks to get dairy out of your system. It is surprising what contains dairy! Casein, Sodium Casinate are just some of the things that are dairy based. Even Coffee-mate which is touted as dairy free has some dairy by-products in it. When my son had this I just went on what my Pediatrician called a Cave-man diet. If a cave man couldn't find it don't eat it. Poor Mom! Be gentle with that baby and gentle with your self too. I for one had some pretty unhappy thoughts during that difficult time. Sending good thoughts your way! Alexandra

Is Typhus different from Typhoid?
Alexandra replied to Alexandra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Bummer! Thanks everyone for the information. It is just incredible what Typus did to Napoleon's army. History changing bacteria. The book that I am reading about this topic is called The Illustrious Dead by Stephan Talty in case anyone is interested. History that reads like a novel. Fabulous but chilling. Apparently Napoleon's Army became infected with the infected louse after crossing into Poland. The Poles, the book explains lived in terrible filth and poverty and vermin infestation. What I wonder is why weren't the Poles falling sick with Typhus like Napoleon's army? Something else interesting about the book is that in the past historians thought that the European brought Typhus to the Americas. Archeological forensics have discovered that it started in the Americas and was "exported" to the Europeans. Rambling here. Thanks again for responses.
