  1. I don't think I'm passionate about any one subject. I just want my kids to love learning, of any type. Still working on that... :p
  2. How old is she? I think that will determine what to expect.
  3. When you sign up for Netflix, you get DVDs delivered to your home. Watching online is just an added bonus. I know in the past I've been limited to the number of hours I can watch online, but that may have changed. I don't pay attention to it because it won't work on my Mac.
  4. We take the day off for the kids birthday and mine. We do school on DH's birthday, but that's only because he still goes to work that day.
  5. It's only available for PC. What is WITH people? Argh!
  6. I bought some at Target recently, but I don't know if they had 6 colors.
  7. I just watched the pilot of the TV show Chuck and really liked it. However, nbc.com jumps to episode 11 from the pilot. I would really like to watch them in order. Is there anywhere I can download them since iTunes no longer carries NBC shows? I don't mind paying a little.
  8. I'm in northwest/north Houston - Champions area.
  9. I'm curious about this, too. When my DD was not-quite-6 she had a terrible outbreak with eczema. It got so bad the skin was peeling off her hands and feet in sheets! It was this time of year, too. We went through all kinds of prescription creams to get it under control. I also switched detergents and took away all scented lotions, bath soaps, etc. She has not had any problems since then (and she had always had slight eczema) until this winter. I found out she is using a scented body wash and I think that's the culprit. I'm very curious about the food allergy link and how you discovered it.
  10. I'm reading: Swallows and Amazons (aloud to the kids) - Arthur Ransome The Hound of the Baskervilles (at DH's request) - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Charlotte Mason Series - Vol. 6 (Modern English) The Art of Teaching - Gilbert Highet Breathing Lessons - Anne Tyler Not counting Swallows, I try to read from at least one of them each day.
  11. I'm very visual, so I need something I can see on a regular basis. MM works better for me because of this. I can't be tied to the computer to check email, and a home management notebook gets closed and put on a shelf, never to be opened again. I print off the week's MM schedule and stick it on the fridge.
  12. I was wondering the same thing. I have one thing under "reputation", but there is no comment and I don't know if it's approving or disapproving.
  13. Tentative plans for DS Bible: Sonlight Core 5 Math: CLE Science: Noeo Chemistry II Grammar: CLE or Junior Analytical Grammar (haven't decided) Spelling: Spelling Wisdom from Simply Charlotte Mason Writing: IEW History: Sonlight Core 5 Geography: SL Core 5 and Visualize World Geography Logic: Dandylion, logic problem puzzle books, Sudoku Composer & Artist study: AO schedule Literature: AO Years 3 and 4 selections Latin: undecided (maybe LC I) outside: viola lessons, homeschool orchestra, YMCA P.E.
  14. I wondered if this was the case. I'm picky about spelling, so it bugs me, but I understand.
  15. Who knows. I think I'll ask about it, though, just because I'm curious. It'll be interesting to see if they know the answer. :D
  16. I'm in NW Houston. I love our branch. They are great. We have a completely separate room for the children's section with their own librarians. They are nice and helpful. DS is constantly asking them for help looking for books and they are very patient. :)
  17. We do CLE Mon-Thurs. I'm looking at JAG for next year because it takes less time. I'd like to be able to do it a couple of days a week. Or, maybe work on it daily to finish it, then just review a couple of days a week the rest of the year. I really like the philosophy of JAG. Grammar is a finite subject. Learn it, then just review. We just started IEW and I am really concentrating on that. My DS's writing skills are incredibly weak, so I feel that needs to be the priority.
  18. This is the version we have. We read one or two chapters/week and it will take us at least 2 years to cover it. The kids really like it.
  19. What about having a notebooking day? Have her pick one of the CHOW chapters she's read that week and make a notebook page. Write a paragraph, look for some images to print off the internet, and put it all together. It sounds like something she would really enjoy.
  20. No. I'm a much nicer and fun mom now than when my kids were in school. It was very stressful getting everything squeezed into evenings and weekends. And the homework battles! Ugh. Nope. Don't miss those days at all.
  21. We pay $20 for 30 minutes once a week. The lessons are given at the local high school, in the practice room. Our private lesson teachers work primarily with the public school students, but we are allowed to have our lessons there, too. We have, on occasion, gone to one of the teacher's home for a makeup lesson. He would charge extra to come to my home.
  22. I'd say 5 out of 7 days. We aim for daily, but it doesn't always happen.
