I love Asheville and the Florida Gulf, but this is where we always go. I am trying to pick a new place but I don't want to risk not liking it as much as the places mentioned. We aren't into amusement parks; however we may try to go to Disney this fall. We just want to go somewhere unique, cool, relaxing, and close. Any ideas?

Were you tested before to see what you are allergic to? How does she know what antigens to use? If she does have this info, and ordered the mixture specifically for you, then she is expecting you to use it or pay for it. But if you have never seen her or signed any agreement, then I don't know that you have to pay. We signed an agreement upfront with the allergist for ds before getting shots. Once the mixture was ordered we had to pay.

I think I want to drop IEW. It's too confusing
grantmeawish replied to grantmeawish's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
He is almost 9. Rod and staff seems to offer a lot of what I want. Will check it out. I told him this am we are going back to WWE. He said that's boring and wants to stick out IEW. I told home I need a break! Maybe if I watch the DVD again and let it marinate it will become more clear. -
I hate to drop it. It seems like a great program. We are a little over halfway through swi-a. Ds could take it or leave it. Right now he hates all the requirements for each paragraph and he totally tunes out andrew during the DVDs. One of the big reasons I started homeschooling was to give my kids a better education than I recieved especially in writing. IEW's outlines and web looking diagraming give me a headache. I was never good at those in school and I was hoping I could overcome that with some hand holding that IEW provides, but nope, it's still painful. Seriously, I go cross eyed and and feel like I can't breathe : ) For now, we will finish the year with WWE even though ds thinks it's incredibly tedious and boring. What is a straight forward solid writing program? Rod and staff???

Try to go see a Registered Dietitian and see if they can help. One with a lot of GI experience. We use to do case studies like this in college. -
Last year we used WWE and did narrations in SOTW. Now that we use IEW, I haven't required my ds to write any narrations or do copy work. He tells me his narration after SOTW. Honestly I would like him to write it for practice, but when I have asked him to write it, it is the simplest narration possible. He doesn't want to write more than necessary. He does a ton of writing for IEW. What do you do?

Not sure where you live, but my state's park system offers something every weekend at its parks across the state. We love going even if its a drive. We usually find unexpected adventure, like the time we saw a bear up close in the park.

I have used all the books do far. I break math up into 2 30 min sessions a day. The first half we do TB and WB. The 2nd half we do CWP. After each unit we do the IP unit for both sessions and then move on to the next unit in TB and then continu the Alternating TB and CWP. We don't do all the problems in IP if it is something my ds doesn't need practice with but we at least do every other one. Hope that made sense!

This is our second year with FLL. It is incredibly easy for my ds(currently 3rd grade) even when learning new material. That is ok with me right now, but I feel it could be ramped up a bit next year. Would he go into RS4 or 5? I don't want to overwhelm him either. Thanks

I could tell labor was beginning in the very early stages with all 3 of mine. I would have light twinges that I felt inside that were very regular. I just knew it wasn't Braxton because Braxtons were more like my belly would get really tight and then release. Over the hours these twinges would become more painful until it was actually hard to walk. That's when I headed to the hospital. Most of all, the regularity of the twinges was the key to knowing labor was coming on.

Typically what Saxon level after singapore 5A/B?
grantmeawish posted a topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I want to enroll my Ds in a homeschool academy in 5th grade and he will be finished with Singapore 5a by the end of 4th grade. I would like to get him finished through 5B before attending the academy, but I am sure he would balk at math through the summer. Has anyone transitioned to Saxon after Singapore? What Level? Thanks -
Are there stores in the US that sell fascinators?
grantmeawish replied to grantmeawish's topic in The Chat Board
Waiting until easter may work if they get stuff out soon. THanks! -
I would really like to try it on rather than purchasing online. Specifically I think I would a light pink pillbox fascinator. This is to wear in a wedding. I thought claire's might, but no luck.

I wear my tights under my running shorts, a knit hat, gloves when it's really cold, and a hoodie over a short sleev shirt. After a mile in my run, I am stripping off the hoodie and the gloves. I leave them on a bench or throw them at my car or driveway when I run by. My dh does not approve of me just wearing tights when out running. He says that is for him to see and no one else : )

Would your tween/teen wear these boots?
grantmeawish replied to whitestavern's topic in The Chat Board
I would say 2 maybe 1. These are cute boots too but not sure if they would be a teen's choice http://www.rei.com/product/771940/sorel-joan-of-arctic-winter-boots-womens -
My ds is 8 and we use IEW. We like the program, so I don't think that is the problem. I think its my son's desire for perfectionism. He writes a rough draft and now is able to get through it without too much anxiety. The anxiety stems from having to cross out words or mistakes. He wants the paper to look perfect. Once we get to copying the final draft, it is all out meltdowns(throwing things, crying, etc.) He rips out pages and huffs and kind of freaks out because he has to keep starting over, even though I tell him to just put a line through the mistake OR write in pencil! He doesn't want to write in pencil. SO today I am fed up. I kept my cool and did not yell. I told him he has to do each paragraph on a separate page because breaking it up into chunks of writing will help with continuity.(he gets lost when he has to flip through multiple page to find where he was copying) This idea sent him through the roof! He flips out and says "I will get a bad grade!" (I don't give grades?) I tell him this is how I want it and am totally fine with it being separated kind of like chapters. He is still steaming and glaring and wants to do it his way. This child is a good kid but as soon as you do something he doesn't, he flips out. He has always been this way. I think I should stand my ground today on the paper since we have tried it his way several times and it continually leads to frustration and tons of paper. I guess this is a parenting issue. Any advice? Thanks

I am looking on Etsy, but it seems I can only find it in toddler and baby sizes. Maybe she is too old for a tutu, but she loves frilly fun stuff. This would be a Christmas gift. Anyone know good sites to find big girl tutus? Thanks

How clean do you expect/require your kids' rooms to be?
grantmeawish replied to Aspasia's topic in The Chat Board
It makes me feel better to read these posts because whenever I visit friends the kids rooms look like a pottery barn magazine. Every am my kids are required to make beds, pickup dirt clothes and trash. Every Friday is clean up day so after school they have to make it look "beautiful", so I can vacuum. I hate carpet by the way and would love to put hardwoods down in the bedrooms. I recently ripped out dds carpet because of grossness. Her floor is now plywood. It looks bad but the carpet needed to go. Even with the am chores, my kids rooms are still a wreck. Lots of books, Legos, paper, creations you name it. I just close the doors and try not to think about it. -
Am I supposed to get excited about this wedding?
grantmeawish replied to mom@shiloh's topic in The Chat Board
Please be happy for this couple and don't judge. I lived with my DH for 5 years before we were married. During those years up to now my faith and knowledge in Christ has grown and I would not encourage living together before marriage and hope my kids make that choice, but unless I was asked my opinion, I would not state it. Go and be happy for them! If they are Jesus followers, pray they will grow in their faith. I don't think it would bode well for you to go with a judgmental attitude. -
My ds is 8 and there is a Junior or adult size swimmers snorkel from FINIS available. I am only finding the adult size available in the store. Do you think this would be too huge?

My kids think Evan moor daily science is a joke.
grantmeawish posted a topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
It is so easy. I think it may take them 3 min to complete. Hey it gets done right! My kids are 6 and 8. I will say they are retaining what they learn maybe because it is so easy, but they want more. I check out extra books every week to "beef it up", but they want more. The best science we had was a book we checked out on lakes and rivers from the library and spent a couple months going through it. Is anyone familiar with great science books out there? -

Ds (8) wants to read Lord of the flies
grantmeawish replied to grantmeawish's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I finished the book and I am not traumatized. You all had me scared, but then i also enjoyed stephan king as a kid. I didn't find it disturbing at all but expected. It's sitting in the return pile and I caught ds trying to walk off with it. I still am going to have him wait a couple more years because be does get nightmares from books, however That doesn't stop him from reading scary books.
