  1. Yes I hate the year round aspect of sports at this age. My Ds is sucked in though. Unfortunately summer swim team is nothing compared to year round but Ds will accept that if he wants to play other sports this year. Maybe I am a little sucked in too : )
  2. You would think football would be more expensive but swim is way more. It's year round.
  3. My Ds is 9 and he is just finishing his first year of year round swim team. He has really enjoyed it and would like to continue BUT he also wants to try other sports. We can't do 2 sports at the same time. It's too much $$ and time. He wants to try football; however I am not crazy about it but am willing to consider it. He would also like to try basketball. I don't know which way to steer him. Right now he says he is stuck in the middle. He likes his swim friends and the sport and doesn't want to lose his skill but he knows he will make new friends in other sports. I am trying to be neutral. Football would be cheaper but it's only for a season. It would be a break from swim meets and 3-4 day a week practices with swim. Concussions do concern me with football. I don't know what to do. I think I am just rambling. Has anyone else been through these dilemmas?
  4. I have a question. I want to begin galore park french with my kids. Ds will be in fourth grade and dd will be in second. My dh is fluent but has never spoken it to the kids. He will be doing the teaching. Do you think this program would be too difficult for the second grader? I would love to try their Latin program too but $$$$. We are finishing up gswl and it has been great. I honestly am just enjoying learning the vocab and translations and what little grammer is added in is a bonus. All these grammer heavy Latin programs scare me! I don't know if I will continue with Latin or just do roots. But that's a whole another post! Thanks
  5. We have been been through fll 2 and 3. We need something a little more challenging and straightforward, maybe even workbook style. Is rod and staff like this? What others have you liked? My ds is 9. Thanks
  6. If the heel feels good and doesn't slide you are probably ok. Brooks shoes have a wider toe box and that sounds like what you need. Try to buy your shoes from a store that will let you return them even after wearing. REI allows this as do many running specialty shops. Your toes should not be touching the end of the shoes at all, even when running. My size in running shoes has run from a 8.5-9.5. It just depends on the brand. Brooks IMO run small.
  7. How old are you? It is recommended that people over 50 supplement b12. As you age your body's ability to absorb it lessens. This website explains it quite well. http://www.health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update0406d.shtml
  8. Ds9 and dd7 HATE socks. Ds will wear them but we they to be perfect. We go through a lot of socks to find ones he will wear. Dd just flat out refuses. The only time she will wear them is for running at swim practice or hiking because we force her to. She doesn't wear them all winter with her boots. Smelly yes! I turn ds3 socks inside out. Dh thinks we wod be rich if we made the perfect sock!
  9. Has never spoken french to them but is willing to teach them. Our goal is spoken fluency and the grammar learned from it as a bonus. My kids are 7&9. My dh will not speak french to them because they don't understand it therefore it's too much work. A program will guide him into speaking it with them slowly and build their vocab. Any suggestions on french programs?
  10. I have a son like yours too. He is 9. He is awesome unless something is not going his way which happens a lot since there are five people in this family. He doesn't like to take responsibility for his actions because it's never his fault. He critiques everything. He is definetly quirky but I have never considered him being on the spectrum. You are not a bad mom! I don't think your post is even about Easter eggs but about dealing with constant fighting. I know how it is!! You think something is no big deal but ds DOES and it is all over after that. We talk constantly about letting things "roll off your back" and life will be easier if you learn to let go of everything having to be fair. Sometimes when he is especially negative I have him tell me five things he can be thankful for. All these help but certainy are not "cures". This is part of his personality and he is going to have to learn to control himself or have a hard life. We tend to send him to his room when he has he meltdowns so we don't have to deal with it. Hope things get better for you!
  11. Did the pain come on fast or did it get worse over time? In my experience, PF gets progressivly worse until I do something about it. When mine flares up, I wear my Birkenstocks until it subsides (several days). I wear my birks all summer anyways. I have never experienced the pain you are talking about. Do you think you need a second opinion or do you think you waited too long to see the dr?
  12. My abs went right back after the first, not so much after the second and no hope of ever going back after the third child. I am in the best shape of my life right now but have always been slim. The pooch is worse when I sit. It's a big roll and I hate it but I am happy for my health and I try to focus on aging gracefully now and try not worry about the sagging bulging parts.
  13. I have ds9 and dd7. I sit with them the whole time. If I didn't, they would be totally distracted and off task. I would really like to spend that time cleaning my house and getting my things done but alas I am here on WTM while kids do work. I hope they will become more independent in the near future! About Latin, I question how your ds is spending 30 min on GSWL. Do you have him write the answers? That seems like a lot for a 7 year old. Mine 9yo would revolt. We do it orally in about 10 min.
  14. I have considered plastic lawn chairs. At least it would provide interesting discussions from guests : )
  15. Our 4 year old cheap leather couch is peeling everywhere and it is tiny. We really need a new one but don't want to spend big bucks since kids will ultimately destroy it. I would think another leather couch would be optimal since it wipes clean but would it peel again? Maybe it peeled because it was cheap. IDK. I have never tried slip covers. That seems like a lot of work. Fabric couches, carpet, etc seem out of the question with my kids. My dh and joke about living in a concrete house with a drain in the middle so we can hose everything down. We have multiple kids, neighbor kids included, running through the house daily so it's hard to keep everything as clean as I would like.
  16. My ds is 9 and we started GSWL this year and are progressing nicely through it; however he is tired of it. I am trying to decide if we should continue with Latin or drop it. I want to start French in the fall. My DH is a native speaker but never taught our dc. I am assuming they will get the benefit of learning a language from French just as much as they would Latin. If we do drop Latin, I will want to do a Greek Latin roots curriculum. Indie one in high school and It was by far the only the beneficial subject to my HS education. WDYT?
  17. I am surprised you dh has let it go this long. When we had boundary issues with mil, speaking to counsler really helped. It showed dh and I that we are not bad people for keeping a distance. I think our marriage would have suffered if we both kept doing things out of guilt.
  18. I use soap bought from rei that is environmentally friendly. I always have to pee in the middle of the night too. Never tried a funnel but would certainly give it a try. I use to wake my dh up and make him hold the flashlight for me so I could make sure I wasn't peeing on an insect nest or something weird but I have become braver. Really though, just expect to be dirty. Use wet wipes, wear a hat, and enjoy that hot shower when you get back.
