  1. Your dd's schedule looks very similar to my ds14's schedule as a rising-10th grader. I don't see anything "missing" but I wouldn't say I'm the final authority on the subject either since I'm in the same boat. I would give full credit for the SAT Prep/IEW class as well as the art class as you described them here.
  2. Ah! I see! (I just happened to be using someone else's computer so when I clicked the link this time it didn't have access to my computer's cookies to know I'd already been there.) I don't think you have to be a member to access the page. Maybe by your computer's cookies it knows you're not in Southern New England. Anyway, try this link: https://www.southernnewengland.aaa.com/sne/loans/f_educational_seminars.php Scholarship info link is in the left sidebar. HTH!:auto:
  3. I just attended a webinar from AAA's seminars site. The topic was College Funding Options and mostly the subtopic of loans was covered although the speaker touched on scholarships just a tad. She said finding out about scholarships is covered in the Scholarship 101 webinar (link is on the same webpage). I see that it's pre-recorded. I didn't have a chance to check it out yet, but thought I'd share the info anyway. :001_smile:
  4. I thought this review was "right on" and he even "stole" a comparison of the violence to the book of Judges that I have made (to friends IRL) ;).
  5. I'm not a 24/7 skirt wearer, but I do like them. I have been "stalking" this site for a few months now since I saw someone recommend it on a Yahoo! Group: http://www.koshercasual.com/ The prices are great!
  6. My dh has only has a brother (3 yrs. older) and they have a close relationship compared to me and my siblings (but this, I believe is from having totally different family dynamics: culturally, financially, quantity, etc.). He and his brother exchange birthday cards and call each other about 1-2x/month. His brother (and bro's wife) have even come to visit us to celebrate his b'day (well, and maybe mine and 2/3 of our children -- all born in the same month):blushing:. We live 3 hrs drive (or optional ferry ride) from each other. When we're all together for holiday gatherings, those two are like "kids" together -- laughing, joking, spoofing, quoting movie lines together -- it's really something. I don't think there are many adult men like these two.
  7. Co-op will be over in 2 meetings! I think I'll be in stunned disbelief the day after and think, "How in the world did a whole school year just pass?" As a family, our last day of school will be on May 31st. My ninth grader will still have algebra to do after that date. We had to delete about 10-15 lessons that he was "bombing" in and not saying *anything* about it to Mom and Dad. :( Even though we had him doing some school work on Saturdays (in addition to Mon-Fri) he still missed some days or had to spend more than one day on a lesson. I share this to encourage some of you who've already posted about Math-woes -- you're not alone. :grouphug: The children will have music and drama performances in early June but that's going to be a lot of fun for them and hardly like "schoolwork" at all. If I had to do something differently? I would have started typing out the books my 9th grader has read and his curriculum as I was encouraged to at our local support group's high school workshop for the spring conference. I did start working on his transcript and so far, so good. Overall, I'm pleased with how this school year has turned out. The Lord has been very kind and merciful to us. We are especially grateful for His help and loving guidance through this part of our journey.
  8. :iagree::iagree::iagree: 100% Agree! We've already been through this situation with our sons using (w/o permission) dh's "semi-smart" phone (it can access the internet and retrieve emails, but that's it). Thankfully it was nothing "red-hot nasty" but they did violate our trust. We have forgiven them and are trying to move on which is the only reason we're even entertaining the idea of getting an ipod touch.:) Yes, this is true of our neighborhood as well. Yes Okay. Good to know. :thumbup1: Hmmm... yeah... this is what "complicates" the matter. :confused1: Thanks for the note on speaking gently ;) Yup, we are trying to do this with the computers he has access to for schoolwork (our 2 laptops). He has to ask first for permission to check emails, chat, research. Excellent point and I'm so glad you shared that. There is a great tension going on here -- we want so much to trust him and we remind him he has to faithful in the little things. There are mistakes being made, and we struggle in considering whether we're being too permissive or too restrictive. <<<sigh>>> I will share today's comments with dh. Thank you again. If anyone else wants to join in the conversation, I'm still all ears. :bigear:
  9. Ditto (mine was about $500 at David's Bridal - had a huge train and needed no alterations). A friend loaned me her petticoat to wear underneath.
  10. We've enjoyed Latin for Children. I recommend getting the basic bundle (we didn't like activity book, but the DVDs, audio CDs and workbook were just enough). The DVDs do the teaching so no-worries for the mom that knows nothing about Latin. The website has games and videos that my children have enjoyed viewing and playing for practice.
  11. My children want an Ipod Touch, but dh and I are leery of internet access. The oldest is saying that the internet is "password protected" and that they won't be able to access the internet w/o our permission. Is this true? Anyone have any regrets about getting their children an Ipod Touch? Please share with me and thank you in advance for insight.:bigear:
  12. This was an "educational" thread. Thank you! :bigear:
  13. Just call their #866-867-6284 (I think it's on the back of the CD case as well) and let them know your child needs to speak to a tutor. They'll ask you what level (ex. Algebra 1), what lesson, what problem # and a phone # they can call you back on (while they contact a tutor). We have the number saved on the cell phone and on Skype to landline to we can call right when help is needed.:D
  14. :iagree: If you still want to do a diploma, you can purchase one from HSLDA: http://www.nexternal.com/hslda/for-your-graduate-c19.aspx or you can print one off from a fave homeschooling site.
  15. Thanks so much for this thread -- it gave me something to consider for my dd who seems to be breezing through TT6. Maybe she'd be a good candidate to go on to Algebra 1 after TT7 as well.
  16. Just another family that loves TT and agree what a blessing it's been for us. Esp the free tutoring over the phone. Oldest son has made use of this for pre-alg. and algebra.
  17. I think Houseofkids&pets is on to something here. How many times has your dd11 taken a standardized test? I have no love for standardized testing. We do it every few yrs to give them the "experience" for test taking in this format, but I don't think it's a good way of measuring what a student is learning.
  18. I voted "no" but I don't agree with "not in a million" -- I'd really love to have one! :D
  19. Thanks again for the suggestions! The lead teacher has looked them over and seems to favor the Notgrass curriculum for History as of now.
  20. I use something like this to plan our school days (subjects, activities, etc.). I write grades for some of their subjects in the back of the planner. My favorite planner is the one that comes with folder pockets, but those have not been available at Staples the past couple of years. I also use a pocket planner to schedule everything in my life (definitely keeps me sane). I voted "both" but to be honest I wasn't quite sure this was what you were looking for.
  21. All of my children are using TT this year. Love it (and they do too)! My only "beef" is that there are too few lessons (180 days of school > 116 lessons -- what's up with that?):001_huh:
  22. :thumbup1: :blush5: Should have done that first, but glad you mentioned it. I saw under their "vegetarian and healthier fare" the "Spring Creek Smokehouse" offers Pulled Portobello Sandwiches (whoa! that sounds so good). :) In trying to book other area hotels, I kept running into the "exceeds maximum occupancy" error message (we are a family of five). I figured that at the Residence Inn our family size wouldn't be a problem and thankfully it wasn't. My oldest son was "stoked" about this coaster when I read your recommendation of it to him -- thanks! :D
  23. Once a week from Sept. to mid-May Thanks so much for the recommendation! Time to check 'em out!
  24. Well, I'm glad we're talking food (one of my fave subjects) -- wanted to know what you all recommend for lunch and dinner meals? We have breakfast covered (we'll be staying at the Residence Inn Marriott), but now I'm wondering what to feed my ever-hungry folks the rest of the day. Do you know if Hershey Park allows you to bring in food? When we went to Disney we brought frozen water bottles and frozen sandwiches (no coolers allowed) and they were okay with this. Thank you again for sharing your insider tips with me! :D
