  1. If you wanted to outsource before 8th, the Potters School Writer's Workshop class would get I'm ready for any basic comp class.
  2. My 10yo dd is obsessed with the Ranger's Apprentice series.
  3. It is expensive but Potters School Writer's Workshop has been amazing for my twelve year old who had very little writing experience. Like a miracle.
  4. The poll might be better if it was 6-7, 7-8, etc. Generally, 6-7 but it doesn't really matter.
  5. My son is pretty mathy and from using the samples, would not have been readings after fifth grade math. He is finishing Saxon 7/6 now and still will find AoPS Pre-Algebra challenging.
  6. We tried CLE English and while my daughter got the answers right she wouldn't remember anything one day to the next. We moved to R&S like her older brother and it's working really well.
  7. I make mine in excel as well but it is a pain to edit on the iPad and I'd give my left arm for an app designed for this purpose. I would make things so much easier.
  8. Oh how I have searched for a MOTH style schedule app and have yet to find one. I hope someone comes to our rescue with me!
  9. You could easily start with First Form Latin with a 7th grader.
  10. I've done it with three levels and got everything at the library. Cost me $100 or so for the whole year. This year I will be buying all my books for three levels and will spend $1200-$2000 depending on how many I get used.
  11. We do little to no hands on TOG stuff. The only hands on thing I do for that age is I get the lapbooks that are preprinted for my 8yo. It would be very easy to do everything orally. The questions are designed IMO for that age to be part of oral discussion. My 8yo just does oral narrations, reads and does oral questions with me for his TOG. I did three levels via the library for over a year now. You get in a routine. Get books, put next two weeks on hold if they are out. I have mine do all their more "history" type books at the table or on the couch during class time. Only literature books leave my sight to be read at night and they are to be returnd when we first start school.
  12. Well what do you think would be the issues with your 9yo? That would help decide. Maybe if we knew more about your younger one's issues us TOgers could help you see how to modify easily.
  13. You can do it! This year I have a 6th grader, 4th grader, 2nd grader, Pre-Ker, a 2yo, and a 5 month old. We do TOG, Latin, FLL, WWE and whatever other one-on-one stuff we have lol. Schedule, schedule, schedule and work boxes. I start with table time where we do Bible, memory work, hymn singing, map tracing, etc. After that the olders do independent work while I spend an hour or so doing Pre-K with my 4yo and my 2yo sits next to me with books. My 4yo moves to doing his work boxes which take about an hour or more while my 2yo goes into a play pen with toys in one corner and books in another. He does that for about an hour. During that time I do one-on-one time with my second grader. At the end my 4th grader joins and we do Latin together - my 2nd grader and 4th grader do it together. My 2nd grader then moves back to independent work in his work boxes while I do time with my 4th grader. After that, she makes lunch. While she makes lunch I correct and work on corrections with my 6th grader. Then after lunch my 6th grader does Science while I do read aloud with everyone else. Then the little ones nap. During nap we start right into TOG. After that I do First Form Latin and go over any math issues or whatnot with my 6th grader. Then everyone finishes up their school towards the end of nap time and if they need me for anything they can do that at that time. You can do it! You just need a solid rotation. Oh and my 2nd grader has a stack of worksheets in his bottom work box. If he needs me but I am helping someone else he is to pull them out and do them until I can get to him. They are just money worksheets, math fun pages, things like that. I am the most disorganized person ever. If I can do it, you can!!!
  14. I don't see the problem. You just say you would prefer being present and do it with authority. Why would that raise homeschooling flags?
  15. Bwahaha. Yeah you have all the SL cores. NICE!
  16. Yeah the organic 98% of the time is ultra-pasteurized. It is just dead as can be. You can't get kefir cultures to grow and thrive in ultra-pasteurized milk. It kills them. While organic, I find UP milk to be one of the worst things for your body. I annoys me to no end that organic milk regulations require UP. Makes me ill. I won't drink it or allow my kids to drink it. I couldn't be more thankful for raw milk.
  17. So glad to see a Chuck Missler recommendation. That is who I was going to suggest.
  18. Don't feel bad at all! We are making large changes in our lifestyle and budget to make it possible for us to get all of our TOG books, and the quality of curriculum we want for all of our children. It will be a HUGE sacrifice this year, but I a, not going to feel bad about it at all. I will feel blessed. And thankful. I used the library for years and spent so very little on curriculum. I am over the moon to be able to make it work to own our TOG books. We will be doing TOG for at least the next 18 years. Having the books will be GREAT! Don't feel guilty if you have the money to make what you feel are the best choices for your kids.
  19. I hand the R & S books to my kids and they do it themselves. The lessons are straightforward and I haven't had any trouble with them learning the material. It is 98% grammar with tiny bits of writing throughout (in 5th grade it is things like outlines, paragraphs, etc.) so it would be fine for those wanting just grammar. I use it for grammar and not writing.
  20. My kids do Rod and Staff independently. I don't teach it.
