I too have tested low repeatedly, even after being on 2000IU daily, then the mega weekly dose. I am now taking 8000IU daily and trying to incorporate iodine as I am hypothyroid and have fibrocystic breast. I backed off of the iodine because I was having adrenal trouble in spite of taking supplements to support the adrenals. That probably has nothing to do with vit D, but just thought I'd mention it anyway.

Anyone Near the Nashville, TN area??
StephinAL replied to Blueridge's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I live a couple hours southeast. I visit Murfreesboro often because my brother lives there. He loves living in that area. I think it would be a great place to live. -

What we use: http://www.iherb.com/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=270&at=0 Description Vanilla Flavor 100 % Natural Grade A 17 g Whey Active Protein 4.3 BCAAs Per Serving Glutamine Rich 18 % GlycoMacropeptides Full Spectrum Whey No Artificial Sweeteners No Artificial Flavors Ultrafiltered powder Whey Protein, is a 100% natural protein concentrate of whey and is specially ultrafiltered under low temperature to be low in fat, lactose and carbohydrates. Whey Protein is a rich source of glutamine rich biologically active proteins. Fifty-one percent of the proteins found in Whey are from BLG (Beta-lactoglbulin), 20% of whey is ALB (Alpha-Lactalbumin), 10% Immunoglobulin, 10% Albumin, 7% minor fractions (Beta-Microglobulin, lactoferrin, lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, lactolin and relaxin), fructose, lecithin and natural flavors. Albumin is of particular interest to researches because of its elevated concentrations of glutamylcysteine, a precursor to the antioxidant glutathione. Whey Protein supports muscle development because it is the richest natural source of BCAAs (Isoleucine, Leucine and Valine), important fuel components of muscle tissue. BCAAs are depleted from muscle tissue following strenuous exercise, which can cause catabolic loss of protein. BCAAs supress proteolysis which is the breakdown of muscle tissue. BCAAs are important as a metabolic fuel for muscle and other tissues by its involvement in the alanine cycle (a process of energy production from BCAAs). BCAAs have been known to enhance performance in moderate as well as intense exercise by improving endurance. Each scoop (26 grams) of Whey Protein provides a total of 4.3 grams of BCAAs. No other source of protein provided as much BCAAs as whey. Jarrow Formulas 100% all natural Whey Protein is rich in glycomacropeptides, which are biologically active proteins that improve the digestion and absorption of nutrients, and growth of bifidobacteria. Whey Protein is specially processed to concentrate and preserve glutamine. Predigested whey, such as that found in peptides and hydrolyzed whey products, result in a loss of glutamine. Therefore Jarrow Formulas Whey is Not hydrolyzed. Also, Whey Protein is extremely rich in essential amino acids that raise the biological efficiency of the protein. WHEY ADVANTAGES 100% Natural Grade A FREE OF PESTICIDES FREE OF HERBICIDES NEGATIVE FOR ANTIBIOTICS Nothing artificial: No artificial flavors, sweeteners or colors. 18% Glycomacropeptides: Unique low molecular weight compounds. Highest concentration of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs): 4.3 grams (4,300 mg) per serving. Whey Protein made in U.S.A

I wanted to use a competition to motivate me to train this year, but heard on the Doctors show that they are not good for you. They said they raise inflamation in the body and can lead to heart attacks. Just wondering what you think.

Well, I feel like a cheater because I use a treadmill, but I did 3mi in 35 minutes. Once I build up to 3mi in 30 and don't feel I'm dying, I'll add some incline. I don't want to run on the roads here because I don't wanna become roadkill. I've been doing that, weights and yoga for two weeks and want to loose 15lbs. I haven't lost 1 lb yet! My dh just tried to eat a little better and lost 4 lbs in the last two weeks. Yes, I have tried eating better, but I guess not enough.

ITA, and have told her that over and over. Yes, that is one of my concerns. She is definately not the one we call on around here for the gross jobs. I have suggested business, accounting, English, communications, editing, librarian...none of which she is interested in. She also doesn't want to go to school forever. This girl is driving me batty I tell you. Her strengths lie in language and art, but she doesn't know of a real job she could get with those.

Weightlifting question...
StephinAL replied to Alexandra's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I read that you should not be able to do more than 16 reps or you are not lifting enough weight. -
Oops! Should have proofread that subject line first. Sorry! My dd knows she wants to one day get married, have kids and homeschool before she is 30. She is graduating highschool this year. Before that time she just wants a good enough job to support herself. She has no idea what to major in right now though. She does not want to major in education ,no way, no how. She is thinking about nursing or physical therapy assistant. I would not say I ever imagined her in the medical field...at all. She is not thinking about doing it because she feels this great need to nurse people, she just doesn't know of anything else. Any suggestions?

My friend went too far........
StephinAL replied to StephinAL's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Her children are 14 and 16 and mind are 15 and 17. I don't know how all of this will affect their friendships, but I think it possibly could. -
She didn't like how her son seemed to be left out in a recent outing with the homeschool group and blamed my son. The part that really upsets me is that she cryingly yelled at my son for over twenty minutes in her car (while driving 80mph, at night, in the rain) in front of her son with some help from her teenage daughter. My son wasn't even sure what he did. Her son tends to get himself into situations where the boys pick on him because he is loud and aggravates them. My son does try to take up for him, but I guess she didn't think he was doing a good enough job this time. Even if it were true and my son was in the wrong, I am totally ticked at how she handled it. She has a history of intervening when she feels other children are mistreating her children. She once pulled my 6 or 7yo dd over to the side in church for not paying enough attention to her dd in a group. She lost another friend for what she said to that friends daughter about how she was treating her daughter. I could give many more examples, but the last straw was her treatment of my son yesterday and I know it isn't healthy for my children to be possibly be subjected to anything like this again. I know I cannot continue our friendship as it has been, but how do you handle it when you run in the same circles (homeschool group)? I don't want awkwardness for my children and don't know how to proceed from here.

She pays for her cell phone with the money she earns from her job and she uses internet here and at school. She uses my laptop at school because she needs one. That is exactly what I was thinking this morning. I wanted her to own this problem and be angry with herself because she created it. I see how we didn't help that happen.
-
Well, my dh's reaction was to take away her cell phone use (except in the case of an emergency), networking on the computer and hanging out with friends or boyfriend. I am not sure though for how long. I don't want to make her our prisoner as I don't think that will breed anything but contention. I like the wisdom of her paying for the class and reworking her own schedule. I'll talk to my dh about it, but truthfully I think he likes having a reason to keep her from spending time with her boyfriend or friends (they are not bad, but just a whole 'nother issue) and will want to stick to his guns. I actually think she could drop one of her classes to take this one if the schedule would allow and still qualify for full time status which is necessary to stay enrolled. But maybe I should let her figure that out.
-
We told her we would help her by getting a tutor. She didn't like the idea but went one time and said that was all the help she needed. Never once has she come to us to help her understand a concept. She has a math lab available at college which she has used on occasion. I feel like she spends too much time texting, myspacing and socializing at school and not enough time studying. She says that she can't spend all her time studying (I don't think she comes even close!). I told her "oh, yes she can beccause there are kids who do when they really want to pass a class." She does work three days a week but I feel like if she would manage her time better she wouldn't be struggling. Her grades are passing, but if she doesn't finish two more modules before the end of next week, it won't be completed and she would have to pick back up next semester where she left off by re-enrolling in the class again (which I don't think she can put into her schedule because she is already signed up for other classes). Why does she need this class? Because she will not graduate from middle collge/highschool in May without it. This is actually a remedial class and I know she is capable of the work. What would you do and I'll tell you what we did to see if we get the bad parents award today.

I have a 19yo nephew who signed up for the marines and went for his physical Monday where they found sugar in his urine. He lives on coca-colas. He will go back for bloodwork next week. My mother tested his sugar with her glucose monitor yesterday and about 7 p.m. before he ate it was 72. She tried to get him to eat a healthy dinner, but he refused and ate ramen noodles and a coke. His sugar went to 178. I am hoping that it was the pure carb load he consumed but don't have enough experience with this to really know.

60% and 13% for me 61% and 15% for dh After my dh finishes college it drops to 34% No big surprise there. The odds have always been stacked against us. When we had been married 4 years, we went to a marriage conference and the speaker said that according to our personality quizes, he didn't see how we were still married! Needless to say that wasn't a very beneficial conference for us. We were married really young and neither have finished college (although dh will very soon). We will be married 19 years this month.

Acceptable Dating age?
StephinAL replied to Tracey in TX's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I used to say that we would only do courtship and my children won't date until they are old enough to marry. I have a 17yo dd who thought that way until she became really interested in someone. Now I have to say that my children are not allowed to single date until the age of 18. I don't think an 18 year old is old enough to get married, but they are old enough to be considered adults, so I can't really say that my children won't date until they are old enough to be married anymore. Once they are 18 they will have to make that choice. -
Last minute costume help...please!
StephinAL replied to ~Tara~'s topic in General Education Discussion Board
One year I used a man's black t-shirt, white turtleneck shirt and a white pillowcase and made my 2yodd a nun. My 12yodd is dressing herself as a mime by wearing all black with white gloves and face. I made my kids Adam and Eve one year by cutting out leaves from green poster board and puting them on a string to tie around them. You could make swords from aluminum foil. You could use slips and the white mesh and make a bride. The funniest one was when my 13yo ds dressed up like an old man wearing a polo with suspenders (stuffing his shirt with a pillow), plaid shorts, black socks & dress shoes and his PawPaw's hat. Older kids are really into mobsters around here. Think suits and hats. Don't forget the Charlie Brown ghost sheets, lol.
