  1. Mine is also living at home and was going to college full time her senior year, so I grieved last year. I layed on her bed and cried her first day. I cried when I pulled out her tab in my homeschool planner. I hope she gets the opportunity to live on campus next semester even though we are 30 minutes away.
  2. Thanks! Yes, I wouldn't mind reading or getting some audio books.
  3. This is for a boy who doesn't like to read. I have BJU US History, but wanted something that incooperates history and literature.
  4. I don't have an officially diagnosed child, but a 16yo that I suspect may be struggling with focus. I have started some omega-3 supplementation, but was wondering if anyone has had success with that or another supplement.
  5. We live in the Chattanooga area. I agree with Coolidge Park for kids your age. There is also the Chattanooga Nature Center. If you are around the Incline area, our favorite place to eat is burrito place there in St. Elmo. I think it is called Mojo's Burrito. Also, there is the Warner Park Zoo close to downtown. If you like amusement parks, there is Lake Winnepesaukah.
  6. Yes that was. But I was agreeing that they are born that way. My opinion was reached through biblical teaching though. However, I don't believe it justifies their lifestyle by agreeing that they were born that way (based on relegion or not). I heard that people who commit adultery commonly have a certain genetic makeup. Does that mean they were born to cheat? Afterall, they are two consenting adults who may love each other.
  7. Not necessarily. I believe people can be born with certain tendancies that given the right (or wrong) set of circumstances would propel them into that lifestyle. So in essence, I do believe that some people are born that way. Just as I believe we were all born liars, adulteres, murderers, theives and basically...sinners. We all have sins that so easily beset us and have to make the choice whether or not we continue to live in that sin. The difference is, once we confess and receive forgiveness, that bond of sin is broken. It may always tempt us, but we are no longer bound. I think drug addicts, even when clean, will always be tempted and continue to have to make that choice to abstain. I think it will always cross the mind of a shoplifter to steal, but they have to make a choice not to. An angry person may have to count to 10 everytime they are provoked. Yes, it goes against our fleshy nature to abstain from sin, but it is a decision we all have to make (or not).
  8. Sorry, I didn't create the statistics. The OP asked for reasons besides Faith based and I think those are legitimate reasons to consider. I don't know anyone in my church who would do that. Just because they don't agree with their lifestyle doesn't mean they don't love them. I find it offensive that people label Christians as hate filled bigots because we disagree with their lifestyle. Where is the tolerance that homosexuals are always asking for? I think that is an insult to all blacks who have been told to sit at the back of a bus, forbidden to drink from certain water fountains or use certain bathrooms, attend certain schools, pools, the list could go on forever. If people think gay marriage should be permitted, then fine, just don't call it a civil right. People can and have chosen to leave the gay lifestyle, but I don't know any black people who can wake up and say "I will not be black anymore". No, that is not the key. The institution of marriage could be redefined in many ways with that reasoning. A grown mother and son, three adults, siblings, etc.
  9. I would love them, but would not accept their lifestyle. I wouldn't want them parading a "partner" just like I wouldn't allow them to parade drugs or alchohol around me. I would fall on my face before God and pray for them just like I would if they were entangled in any other lifestyle that would send them to hell and an early grave.
  10. I didn't read all 18 pages, but how about because it is bad for your health? It isn't healthy for you? Research gathered by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or CDC, has found significantly higher rates of rectal gonorrhea, HIV/AIDS and all three strains of Hepatitis among homosexuals. Other studies have likewise linked homosexuality with increased rates of Human Papillomavirus (the leading cause of cervical cancer worldwide), and anal cancer. Although self-identified homosexuals for less than 5 percent of the American population, they are the carriers of over 50 percent of HIV/AIDS cases. Risky behaviors – Campaigns to foster so-called "safe sex" among homosexuals have done nothing to reduce risky behavior. A 1997 CDC report found that among homosexuals who had unprotected anal intercourse and multiple sexual partners, 68 percent were entirely unaware of the HIV status of their partners. Promiscuity – A large percentage of homosexual men have hundreds of sexual partners throughout their lifetime. According to a profile of 2,583 homosexuals published in the Journal of Sex Research, only 2.7 reported having had sexual relations with only one partner, compared to the largest percentage that claimed to have had between 101 and 500 partners over their lifetime. Compare that to the markedly lower promiscuity rates among married heterosexual couples. According to the latest statistics from the CDC, 92 percent of married males and 93 percent of married females reported having had only one sexual partner over the previous twelve months (presumably their spouses). Domestic abuse – A survey conducted by the Journal of Social Service Research found that more than half of lesbian respondents reported having been abused by a female partner or lover. Conversely, research has found that married heterosexual women experience the lowest rates of domestic abuse compared to other types of relationships. Life span – A 1997 study published in the International Journal of Epidemiology found that even under "the most liberal assumptions, gay and bisexual men in this urban center are now experiencing a similar to that experienced by all men in Canada in the year 1871." The same study estimated that homosexual behavior reduces the lifespan of males by eight to 20 years. Comparatively, the CDC has found that male and female smokers lose an average of 13.2 to 14.5 years of life, respectively. Article about their life expectancy: http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/apr/07040309.html More info about why it is bad for your health: http://www.redcounty.com/sarasota/2008/12/homosexuality-causing-health-c/ Article about more mental health problems: http://www.narth.com/docs/whitehead.html The way I see it, is God doesn't withhold things or forbid things unless it is for our own good. He outlined things we should eat (whole 'nother box to open there, I know) because he knew what was good for us. People can not ignore the health hazzards of that lifestyle just because they want to justify their lifestyle. We wouldn't promote smoking, alchoholism and eating Big Macs everyday, and we shouldn't promote a lifestyle plagued with mental and physical health problems either. I think it is just weird. If I saw two female (or male) dogs trying to mate, I would think something is wrong with them. Sorry, if that offends, but I believe it goes against nature. That has been my experience also. We have two homosexual family members and both suffered abuse as a child.
  11. Here is a handwriting book I liked: http://books.google.com/books?id=zQACAAAAYAAJ&printsec=frontcover&dq=handwriting&lr=&as_brr=1#v=onepage&q=&f=false
  12. Desoto State Park in Mentone, AL is beautiful with good hiking trails.
  13. I was told at 16 weeks pregnant with my first child that her heart was on the wrong side of her body with only 2 full chambers and a small third. She had a hole in her left lung that was also filled with fluid. I remember the words on the report "Findings are not compatible with life". Her heartbeat had been faint and slow and she didn't really move on the sonogram. The sonographer lied and told the vcr (yes it was 18 years ago!) was broken and she couldn't record it for me. In truth, she later said she expected my baby to be dead soon. The doctor sat me down and explained if she made it birth, they would fly to a hospital 2 hours away and a pediatric cardiologist would be at her birth. We were annointed and prayed for, we believed that God healed her and that when we went back, she would be perfectly normal. Two weeks later, we had another sonogram and she was! I was also diagnosed with precancerous cervical cells and the doctor wanted to do a procedure to get rid of them. I asked for 3 months in which I spent believing God for a miracle. Went back, had a normal examination and have had normal paps for the last 2 years. A friend of mine who has spent her life in service to others, gave her kidney to her diabetic brother. Years later, doctors discovered her body had grown a new kidney in it's place! This wasn't even something she asked for! Our God does exceedingly, abundantly, above anything we could even ask or think!!!!!
  14. :iagree: I also thought his use of the word "stupid" was odd and inappropriate. The fact that this was an acquaintance was even more reason for him to not abuse his position of authority for personal reasons.
  15. Thank you so much. My husband works at a university so I will ask him to check into it. I will also talk to his pediatritian and our insurance to see what it covered. You are right, it would be no surprise to him and hopefully he will understand.
  16. Is it too late? I talked to my pediatrician several years ago because I was concerned about my son having dyslexia and he didn't act very concerned. I don't want my 16yo to think I think he is stupid either so I don't know how to approach the subject with him.
  17. Thanks so much! Those are great ideas! I think we will go ahead with geometry this year and pick up next summer with Algebra. I may work with him some on his basic math too.
  18. He should be going into his junior year, but has not completed or mastered Algebra 1. I have Lials Devolpmental Mathematics and see that he hasn't mastered all of his basic math concepts after going through TT Pre-Algebra and most of Algebra 1. He needs Alg 1,2 and Geometry before he graduates and I don't know how to get it all in without holding him back. Our coop is offering MUS Geometry and I considered letting him do that and Alg 1 this year but don't want to overwhelm him. I am also trying to decide between curriculums. I can not teach math and want him to have acountability to someone besides myself. He is a teenage boy and seems to care more if he has to turn in work to someone besides mom. I am not ready for him to attend community college so am looking for other options.
  19. So do you think I should be doing another program along with the MUS they do at the coop? Any suggestions?
  20. I was excited even though we have been using Teaching Textbooks until I started worrying that it would confuse them. I was going to switch to possibly Jacobs this year. The concepts will be new to my children (Pre-Algebra and Geometry). Would I be doing damage if I put them in a new curriculum that is taught is such a different way for those subjects?
  21. I have a Victoria's Secret miracle bra tankini that I got on sale for like $30 somthing dollars.
  22. I do mine in the crockpot. http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2008/10/you-can-make-yogurt-in-your-crockpot.html
  23. Levothyroxine wasn't working and made me even worse. Yeah, I am going to look into one of the brands someone mentioned here from salmon. Maybe that would do the trick.
