  1. Knowing he had been sick yesterday. They said they took him to the doctor and he tested neg. for the swine flu and strep and that it was just a virus. Yep, did you know that viruses aren't contagious because they are on the inside says their doctor????????? Oh and it isn't the swine flu if he isn't throwing up and his skin feels weird. What? He is in town for the weekend for his 20 year reunion and wants to bring the child back tomorrow granted he is not running a fever again (just like he wasn't this morning). I don't want to be ugly and ruin his reunion weekend, but I have 4 kids and don't want them to come back tomorrow.
  2. You might could put a heating pad on your muscles right before you head out to warm them up a bit.
  3. May is the key word. I have two kids with eczema, one that has it over a large portion of his upper body. When he had CP I took extra care of his skin. They took aveeno baths several times a day, with some essential oils for the antibacterial properties, herbal sprays, etc. My children's skin never looked better even though it had pox. Just thought I'd throw that in. Someone else probably has a completely different experience, but just because they have eczema doesn't mean they will have a worse reaction.
  4. How about here: http://www.stpjhome.org/. They ordered a children's book from me on paperback swap and I looked them up.
  5. I am in NE AL about 2hrs north of you. I am planning on doing another one in Huntsville next month. OK, I am digging the idea of just competing with myself. Thanks everybody, I'll let you know how it goes!
  6. LOL, thanks! I needed to hear that. I just ordered a Polar F6 and am hoping to have it one day this week. Should I rest just the day before and run all week, or do I need to rest more?
  7. I hope my sore muscles won't hold me back! I took two days off this weekend because the muscles on the front outside of my shins were so sore. Still sore today, but I ran anyway. Gosh, I feel old since I started running. I am really nervous because I know I am not fast and being timed intimidates me.
  8. OK, you talked me into it! I am very competitive also. I think that is why I hesitated because I am a sore loser and would hate to be last.
  9. I have been taking 10,000 IU because I tested low. My TSH (thyroid stumulating hormone) is starting to come down.
  10. It is a Race for the Cure so there will be alot of walkers and walk/runners. They have a race option and wearing a timing device. I am 37 and ran 3.1 in 32 minutes this morning. I am hoping to get it under 30 by the end of the week. Should I just run and time myself or risk embarrassment and try to compete against other, more seasoned runners? Also, it is at 2 in the afternoon. What should I eat for breakfast and lunch?
  11. Vitamin d and iodine are bringing my tsh down.
  12. Anyone ever had their child take one? If so, who did and how much did it cost? Was it worth it? Thanks!
  13. Here is a page with lots of great info in the comments. http://renegadehealth.com/blog/2009/04/28/swine-flu-immune-system-boosting-ideas/
  14. My daughter wasn't very ambitious either. After a year as a cashier at the local grocery, she was determined to get a college degree. She saw adults making what she makes and didn't want that future. So maybe get him a dead end job?
  15. Well, I wasn't worried until I heard about an 11yo boy in Scottsboro that died last week (I live in NE AL, about 30 minutes N of Scottsboro). I didn't hear about that mom though. My husband and daughter work and attend school in Chattanooga, TN and they have confirmed cases at their university and are telling the kids if they are sick not to come to class and their absence won't be counted against them. I don't want to stay home, but the germ phobe in me is trying to surface.
  16. My husband is a TN state employee and we have insurance through Cigna. They required SS#s for each of our children AND proof we are married. I had to give a copy of our marriage certificate and a document proving we both live at our residense such as a utility bill, tax document, etc.
  17. That is exactly what I spent. Sorry the sale didn't work out, but it was nicely located next to the Coldstone to make up for the disappointment :001_smile:. That is what I told myself. Now that I know what I need.
  18. I went to a local running club's website where they recommended a few stores. The salesman was an avid runner and extremely knowledgable. I paid over $100 for my shoes though, so I guess all that wisdom he was sharing has its price. I normally wear size 7 shoes and he said I needed an 8 for running. I went with Nike Zooms. I'm about to try them out a soon as my dinenr is digested. I've been wearing them around the house and they feel marvelous so far! I feel so guilty. I have never bought a pair of shoes that cost that much. Ever. I was just in so much pain after that last run, I knew I had to figure out what was going on.
  19. Yes, but in that topic will be some major points right? This was a short essay. I think my daughter was talking about her thesis statement and major points being included. She then expanded further on those points followed by a concluding paragraph that reflects the thesis, summarizing those points.
  20. by her new Sociology teacher. She went on to tell her that may have been how she learned in highschool, but that isn't how you do it in college. My dd said, "Actually, I learned that last year in Comp 101 and 102 at X-State". My dd basically did her senior year in highschool at a local community college. The Sociology teacher said "Well, I'am not saying anything about those professors, but that isn't the way to do it." How else do you do it???? That is how I wrote in highschool and college. That is how we teach writing in our classes at our co-op. Can anyone tell me another way? Do you not introduce your topic and points, follow up discussing those points, then conclude? Maybe I really don't know anything about writing.
  21. Well, actually, I haven't raced yet. I am not sure which to do. Should I start with a 5K? How do you know when you are ready for more like a half? LOL, yeah, I have been a biker for years and am just now starting to seriously run. Biking is my true love, but I can't always make it to the trails. I can run anywere. No, biking doesn't make me sore anymore unless I fall or sit on my saddle too much over rocky terrain :-). I rested yesterday, iced, took Advil and massaged my calf muscle. Much better today! I am embarrased to say that my shoes are probably 4 years (or older!) and have been washed and dried many times. After much reading, I am going shoe shopping today. I am going to a store that hopefully will fit me for an appropiate shoe. I want one for treadmill, pavement and trails. I don't know if such a shoe exist.
  22. How much is too much? I have been running about 4.5mi at 5-6mph for the last 3 weeks. I haven't had any pain or soreness until yesterday. The back of my lower calf hurts and my calves feel tight and almost swollen. To be honest though, they felt that way before I started running (minus the pain). Yesterday I ran 5mi in 50 minutes. It is challenging, but not "I think I'm gonna die" difficult. I am 37yo and in decent shape. I rode my bike for 3.5 hours Saturday (mountainbiking). So, will I wear my body out? Can my heart take it?
  23. We live in AL and our troop goes to Camp Comer in Mentone, AL and boys come from all over the country. Here is more info.... http://www.1bsa.org/default.asp?ID=23 Edited to say it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen!
