  1. In football there is something called an 'onside-kick'-- the kicker has a good chance of being in part of the scramble for the ball-- they have to know how to tackle and be tackled... In college our team won the national championship 3 years in a row (BOOMER SOONER!) Our kicker had to have surgery due to an injury-- he was a friend of one of my roommates... I do not think any sport is totally without risk... we have a friend who was a Jr Olympic champion in ping-pong -- she had to deal with wrist injuries! I'm raising a very very active 3yr grandson... he will most likely play soccer when older (he has been playing for 3 seasons already at the pre-school level!). GS also LOVES watching (American) football with DH. We live in Texas-- GS is going to be tall-- our current thinking is NO to football-- but our local high school soccer team has more extreme injuries every season... we will have that discussion in about 10 more years if football is still around. -- I witnessed a gruesome injury during a flag football game once..
  2. Return them-- if hitting hard does not work then you probably have a faulty one... my grandson lives in light up shoes...
  3. When I started to go grey (mostly on LEFT side--so looked like I was painting a wall and got some paint on the side of my head!) I used a box at home... worked great (semi- permanent)-- I needed to use it every 4 weeks. Once my greys became more evident I HATED the 'line' of my roots showing-- and my hair grows FAST-- so root treatments were not good enough to keep the all-over color looking nice. At this point I started going to a salon for high lights and low lights (My natural hair is a medium-dark reddish brown). Expensive but we could afford it. I would go every 6-8 weeks for around $150 (including cut). I tried doing my own highlights-- did NOT go well! Once COVID hit I decided to take the lock down as a great opportunity to let my greys grow out to see what was there... I was about 50% grey. It was painful to look in the mirror for a few months-- but I'm so glad I did. I'm very happy with the look now that the grey is more evenly distributed. Upside is that I can spend the $$ on something else... I have a 'young' face-- if I colored my hair I would look at least 10 years younger... but I'm embracing my 'Grammy' years...
  4. While I have a Daddy-- my mom would never ever EVER let us call her 'Mommy'--- the movie 'Mommy Dearest' ruined that for her! We called her 'Mom' or 'Momma'. My youngest dd calls me 'Momma' and my older dd's call me 'Mom'.
  5. Please do not send him in public while he is testing positive. Bike riding away from any others would be fine-- but even when it is 'less crowded' you can still put others at risk...(coming from an immune compromised person who appreciates others who KNOW they are ill keeping their distance.
  6. I've been teaching math (middle school through Algebra 2) for over 30 years with the last 21 years online. When I started teaching in the 1980's students had math 5 days each week for about 50 minutes. The first 10-15 minutes of each class was spent checking/grading homework from the previous day. Points awarded were 'token' points-- meaning a very small percentage of overall grade. I would review all of the 'graded' homework and record grades in grade book manually-- this was for 130-150 students EACH DAY. I lived with a pile of homework and my grade book-- don't even try to talk to me when quizzes and tests came through! When I started teaching in co-ops and small groups (after we started a family) I had to change things up as classes were only 1 or 2 days each week. There was too much of a lag if students turned in homework and had to wait a week for it to be returned. It also affected the next teaching lesson. Out of necessity I moved to the 'homework answers are provided' method. For this to work I had to make myself available to students between classes. This format has worked well for me for the past 21 years. Currently I have about 100 students-- working almost full time as I'm the "college plan" in my family. My online classes meet 2 days each week. I teach lesson and assign homework after each class. Homework answers are provided. Students are instructed to work towards mastery-- if they miss a problem they simply go back and re-work it. If they get stuck or if they are unsure of a problem they are to email me (preference is emailing a photo of their work so far). 90% of the time a simple email exchange will get the student back on track-- if not they can see me during office hours or before/after class. I can tell by the quizzes and tests if a student worked their homework or not-- it is very evident! I also give grace-- especially with quizzes-- if I notice a student is missing a concept I will initiate a tutorial and work 1 on 1 with that student-- even allowing retakes on occasion (especially for quizzes or if the student failed a test). Again-- the above is what works well for me. Yes, there are a few students who need someone looking over their shoulder-- or a parent to make sure they are doing their work. Parents do not need to 'reteach' the lessons-- only provide support and accountability.
  7. I finished Behind Every Star-- they did not sum up all of the plots but ending was still satisfying to me. I started another 2011 show-- Heartstrings (Viki). I like it so far and it is teen friendly. I've also started Abyss (Netflix I think)-- it is almost a horror drama-- blood, gore, violence-- but it has kept my interest.
  8. I'm watching (current so still releasing episodes each week) My Lovely Liar and Destined With You. Both are good so far. Tried to wait to watch until all episodes were released but just could not help myself-- I was coming across too many spoilers. The main girl in My Lovely Liar can tell if people lie-- but she tends to lie a lot herself-- this annoyed me at first until I figured out that the show was about her personal growth (duh). I really like Rowoon (SF9 music and acting)-- I haven't loved all of his shows but this one (Destined for you) is interesting so far. I'm also 7 episodes into Behind Every Star-- this is good but more adult... young adult/teen equivalent would be Shooting Stars (one of my favorites!).
  9. Having had lots of hospital stays and a family with lots of hospital stays-- my vote is not to visit unless asked. With my children/grandson, DH or I have always stayed with them-- and the hospitals REALLY wanted us too-- but friendly visitors? NO Exception is with critical family members/friends-- those last precious moments are important to share... All of my hospitalizations have been private rooms-- pretty standard here. Depending on my issues DH has had to either stay with me or I had a friend come and give him a break. A few times DH was able to leave for the night as I did not need much after surgery care/watching. One of our dear neighbors is going through cancer treatment (not looking good). We have no plans on visiting her in the hospital-- but will bring meals to her DH and disabled adult son. When/if she makes it back home we will visit only if we are asked (and only if we are 100% healthy). I really really really do not like friends and extended family visiting me when I'm in the hospital-- too awkward!
  10. TMI-- but I typically only wear the beasts when I'm out in public or around non-immediate family members. My main reason: I'm just large enough to be 'jiggly'...I'm not at a place of being comfortable with others seeing my jiggles. I agree that a good bra can make a huge difference in the way clothes look.
  11. I am not a green-lover. I never would have imagined that one day I would paint any wall in my home green on purpose! Well-- enter our current home. All of our previous homes had various shades of burgundy, naturals(golds/cinnamon) and blues with whitewashed or light colored wood (at times a nice pecan stain). Current home came decked in a very light creamy yellow terra-cotta (almost a beige) walls with similar colored tile (EVERYWHERE) and very dark wood and dark leather furniture. Huge kitchen island and all counter tops in dark rusty-green-brown granite. Enter the Green. My personal/faithful choice of colors just did not work in this house. The kitchen is open to our main living area... the opposite wall is main wall of living and is next to a floor-to-ceiling rock fireplace. That wall/room was screaming for color-- way too monotone! I was extremely hesitant, but I marched down to SW and brought home a few gallons of Evergreen Fog--a sage/grey (last years color of the year). The first strokes looked horrible-- but once the whole wall was completed-- WOW-- it was beautiful and so calming-- the color changes in light-- it is not 'dark' at all in daylight. I even put in in our downstairs 1/2 bath-- with white wood doors/trim and a white fixtures the color looks stunning. I was happily surprised! I wish I would have taken official before/after photos-- in the one with DH and GS notice how wall/fireplace sort of blend with rug/tile...
  12. I think moving through both in one year (skipping the review) would have little benefit to the student. With Algebra, the first time through students are almost always relying on patterns and short term memory. The break for Geometry lets them 'use' some of their Algebra skills while the brain matures. When they work Algebra 2 their brains are almost 2 years older-- they see the 'review' problems as familiar and they can focus better-- then the expansion of concepts is when most really start to understand math! When you move through it in one year students rarely move out of the patterning stage...If you work Geometry after that then you have a gap where the student has regressed in Algebra (Geometry does not use Algebra 2) so Pre-Calc tends to be more difficult.... This was MY life-story and I had to drop Pre-Calc and rework Algebra 2 to come up to speed (gain understanding not patterning) before I moved on to college maths. Most college students who have issues with college maths and sciences are weak in basic Algebra.
  13. Treats and a command word like 'Friends'... this is how we redirected one of our GS boys when he decided the word was his... I started taking him for MORE walks and made sure I was consistent. It worked. Woe to anyone who came to our house and did not get the 'Friend' command-- he would not bark but he used his 'laser-eyes'... When we went on walks I even used the 'Friend' command with a neighbor's cat-- he was soooo annoyed with me and would turn his head away as we walked past--so funny!
  14. My dd's college is in a high cost of living area-- groceries (and gas) are MUCH more expensive there than in TX where I live! DD (starting Sr year) averages $400 per month for food alone. Apartment (her share of 4bed 4 bath) is $800 per month plus utilities. Still cheaper than living in dorm! Her boyfriend is sharing a 3bed 1.5 bath (needs some work) townhouse his share is $600 per month plus utilities...DD may look for a unit over there for her grad school (needs to decide soon as there is always a long wait list)... Her sisters opted for a local university-- we purchased a 2 bed 1.5 bath house (mortgage $500 per month!)--10 years later oldest DD still lives there! I think their food allowance was $400 per month combined... tuition was about half of what is is now too... We looked into purchasing a house for youngest dd to use at college (with maybe renting a room or two)- but $300,000 cant get you anything other than a run down 2 bed 1 bath condo-- so more than the $800 per month per person of her current apartment... --Needed to add One of my older dds did spend one year at an out of town university. Each dorm had a kitchen-- since she has major food allergies she was allowed to totally skip the meal plan-- I gave her that money as her grocery/incidental allowance. The kitchen was down her hall-- so I bought her a little red wagon to transport her food and cookware/utensils. Laundry was in the same room so it worked out great for her and she learned how to cook! (She did have a microwave and a mini refrigerator with freezer in her room). Both semesters she came home with several hundred dollars that she did not spend.
  15. No worries! It is fun to see that there are other K-POP lovers out there in the homeschooling community. I left out one of my favorite things-- Saturday morning one of my online math families picked us up at the hotel and we went out for breakfast-- so fun to physically meet students that I've been virtually teaching for years! -- Technically I could call this a 'business' trip (but I will not!). Here is a photo of my Viki cups. I have 3. Each came stuffed with a 'gift'. I have stickers that happened to be from 3 of my favorite shows (Goblin/Guardian, Descendants of the Sun and True Beauty) and a cool pin. The 'K-Beauty' area of the convention passes out tons of freebies/samples. During my solo-convention times I would wander around the booths that had no visitors and strike up a conversation (no visitors at times because this area was right next to the inside stage area and most people wanted to watch those performances). By Sunday I had several boot workers recognize me...My dd called this 'making friends'-- well, when you are a fish out of water like me, having someone wave and smile to you really helps!
  16. WOW-- I know most of those groups!!! 1-2 from each row were at KCON LA this year! Note Ateez performed at the Day 2 concert-- but Meet and Greet was on Day 3... Yes, it was LOUD (too much base!) but we had professional quality concert ear plugs that helped so much!!
  17. XG was the girl group I saw inside and the one in concert pic I posted. Hyunjin escaping and running around the stage chased by producers was the BEST ending of the night! That photo is hiding in my heart forever--I looked so BADDDD --it is so funny I do not want to end up a meme. -- The Viki booth (what the line was mainly for) was a photo booth where you stood in front of a green(blue) screen and then choose one of 6 K-Drama photos to become a part of... one was the 'selfie' photo from True Beauty-- so they can add you to it OR replace the girl with you... The absolute most popular one was the iconic Reaper and Goblin side by side street walking-- our Group was added to the center so we were walking with them... I came back to the Viki booth on Sunday and stood in line (remember I was 'pulled in' for the first one)-- my other photo looks like I'm holding their hands as we walk down the road together... again-- not the best photo of me but my family LOVED it... I also got some awesome freebies (stickers, pins, stuffed boba.. )from Viki and will take my photos as well as KCON wrist bands and make a collage for our home theater room walls....
  18. King was great-- I did like it much better the 2nd time through. Along the lines of Heirs is 'Cinderella and the 4 Knights'. Boys over Flowers is fun-- I had to get over the female lead (not thrilled with casting-- dd said she was/is a popular comedian) but by the end I was fine with her.
  19. There are different size looms-- not patterns/sock sizes but size of looms for size of yarn-- some sock looms use 'regular' weight yearn and some use the fine weight-- look up the one you have on YouTube-- you will find out the type of yarn that works best plus get free lessons! (I do lots of loom knitting)
  20. Just got home a few minutes ago-- LONG WEEKEND but so much fun! I met up with dd (21) in Colorado then we flew out to LA early Friday morning-- we dropped bags off at hotel then walked to convention center (about 3 blocks). We had to wait about 45 minutes to get inside but got in just as dd's friends were auditioning for the 'Dream Stage'-- 4 of them made it on Friday! After that we did a quick spot check around convention and went back to hotel for a nap-- (having had only 1 hour of sleep the night before due travel). The concert arena was about a block away from hotel--we had awesome seats all three days-- row 14 most days and just a few rows above that on Friday. The BASE was very very strong-- you could not hear the girl groups vocals at all on Friday-- but it was much better on Saturday and Sunday (new sound system in arena). 15000 steps. Saturday we were up early and had about an hour of line time to get into convention-- we watched some of the Dream Stage dance competition then walked around- walking and standing as practically no place to sit! DD decided to go to the outdoor area to try to get a good spot for the Ateez convention stage time-- so we split up as I was already at 10000 steps and it was not lunch time yet! DD was able to eat at an outside vendor booth then scored 2nd row (crowd) very close to center and got video of Mingi interacting with her-- staring her down and making her do the 'barks' (if you know KPOP and Ateez you will know about the barking...) He also gave her a thumbs up when they started yet another round of Bouncy and she danced along... other members gave her waves and completed her hearts... so her day was made!! Now for me-- This old lady was way out of her comfort zone-- dd had just abandoned me with thousands of K-fans and I was like a deer in headlights... I do know K-Dramas so I walked over to the Viki booth--- there was a LONG line around the booth and I was curious to know what it was for (I'm not a fan of standing in line unless I know what it is for...). I walked around to the other side just to see a partition-- I was facing booth trying to figure out what I was going to actually do when one of the workers motioned for me to come over-- she then gave me a push into the partitioned area and before I could react I felt an arm around me! I nervously looked up to see who would so something to poor old me and ended up looking into the eyes of a VERY nice looking man in his early 30's... He asked me if I was enjoying the convention and what my favorite exhibit was and before I got my bearings cameras started going off then I got another hug and was escorted away. A worker told me to come around to the other side to get a print of my photo. Still in shock (seriously I was) I decided to suck it up a bravely asked someone who was standing in the long line who the guy was---they LAUGHED so hard-- it was Kevin Woo-- he opened the concert on Friday! (He was in one of the first K-Pop groups called U-Kiss-- I had to have my dd explain to me who he was!!!). Fun story but the picture of me is hilarious!!! The other people in picture were great (so I can easily be edited out for their memories) but I was dumbstruck and looked VERY out of place! Apparently his manager was not thrilled with the 'fans' in the line so asked for workers to do 'pull ins' for his photo time. NOT even going to post the photo on an open forum-- it was one of the worst photos' I have ever taken. Saturday concert was AWESOME... 13000 steps Sunday morning we had to leave early so dd could audition for the Dream Stage.. she did not make it -- I think she had over done it the 2 days before and her knee had had enough-- I'm glad she did not make it as the dancers got a taste of what it is like to be a trainee-- sequestered from 9am until after the concert around 11pm with only ONE 1-hour break to find food (nothing near by and convention lines were LONG)-- water was a premium if you could find it... also no access to any meet and greet or concert. One of her friends got to take a selfie with Taemin but the others had zero access-- plus workers were pretty rude. Total stage time in main concert averaged 2 minutes or less. Lots of groups had stage time at the Sunday convention. It was raining (thankfully just light rain and no real wind) so no outdoor stages so they moved things around a bit inside convention hall. DD once again abandoned me (well she was hurting and found a couch in lobby to sit on) so I had a few convention hours alone... At one point an older worker (who had taken a photo of me and dd earlier at a prop area he was working) came up to me and said " You really want to stand right here"-- a few minutes later a girl group was escorted by (sort of like a red carpet but less formal and no physical barricades)... I have a video-- DD was like ""MOOOM-- that was my favorite girl group!!!"" I told her that is what she gets for leaving an old lady by herself... I also watched several other groups take the convention stage and had unrestricted views (plus I think sound was actually better in convention hall!). DD got to use the Ateez meet and greet-- basically in smaller room with just a few hundred fans for a group talk and then barricaded for a walk by at the end)-- Ateez had a few other private fan club or 'contest winner' fan talk/fan sign events as well as appearances at many of the convention boots-- if you heard screams you just walked in the opposite direction as those Ateez fans would run you down if you tried to get close (so not worth it for me). The Sunday concert was AMAZING-- I knew almost all of the groups and Stray Kids were an awesome last act (but they did absolutely zero other interactions and did not attend any convention events) . 45000 plus steps in 3 days for someone who averages 5000 on a good day due to health issues. I did get Dr approval to travel-- but I bet she would have said no had we known what I was really in for! I did have dd on the edge a bit more than I had hoped-- but I did just fine... I will be back at Dr this week though. My Ateez (fandom are called ATINY) shirt was a big hit...
  21. Hi from KCON Got a hug and a picture with Kevin Woo today at the Viki booth!! (He sang first last night) DD got an up close place next to Ateez at convention event and they interacted with her— she auditions for the “dream stage” tomorrow morning. Started watching “My Lovely Liar” (Viki) on episode 6… waiting for more to be released— fun/cute so far.
  22. OK-- One more t-shirt for KCON next week... I have a simple shiny heart on front with word STAY inside. "Stay" is fandom name for Stray Kids and 'Stray Kids everywhere all around the world' is their slogan. Shirt is really a nice light blue... this is the back of the shirt. Just found out there will be a room/area dedicated to K-dramas... I may have found my happy place at the convention!
  23. I just finished Dr Romantic 3-- absolutely LOVED it-- would not mind at all if they made a season 4! Sadly, I've had a few DNF-- but I tend to really look at reviews before I start a new drama. Not sure what I will start this weekend... I'm also looking for good ones specifically on Viki-- as I'm traveling this next week and Viki is easy to download with... IDEAS?
