  1. AAR does not use phonics marking. We have used them through level 2 and are about to start 3.
  2. Can anyone give me some reviews on this one? Is it worth it? It looks like it will be fun. Are the activities doable? I would be combining my 5 year old and almost 7 year old. Tell me anything you know about it.
  3. I am using HOD right now for a similar reason that another poster mentioned. My youngest daughter tends to overshadow her older sister. This really frustrates my oldest. Both are very smart, but my oldest can sometimes be in her own world and she ends up not being the one to answer. The skill progression seems really good so far. My oldest grew so much in Little Hearts. She is in Beyond now and loving it. We are slowly starting Little Hearts with my newly-turned 5 year old.
  4. I have the first level of foundation. We haven't started it yet, but we may soon.
  5. Okay, thanks so much for your opinion. :) I have heard this in other places, so it makes me feel like we should just stick with what we already have in hand for next year. It would cost less as well. Plus, what we are using seems to be working well for us.
  6. My daughter had this same issue in the same spot. She had a hard time remembering her math facts. She could do them and we did use the HIG. We ended up shelving it, though, and we are now using a combo of MUS Alpha and CLE 1st grade. She is doing so much better. We may look into Singapore again when she is older, but she seems to be thriving now.
  7. Has anyone used this program? I am seriously considering using it for my kiddos next year. They will be almost 6 and 7 1/2. I am just looking for some reviews. TIA
  8. I plan to combine my will be 5 and 7 year old in Winter Promise next year. That's my plan as of now at least. We will either use Hideaways in History or Animals and their World.
  9. Thank you for your thoughts. I think you probably summed it up. I do like HOD, but WP is so tempting. I can't help but give it a try. I'm not sure I love every aspect of HOD. I do like having everything planned out though.
  10. Oh, I doubt we would do everything. Hideaways in History is an overview of World history. It looks really fun. It says that it is only written for K/1st, so that's why I was thinking of doing it first. Hmmm...I almost wish we could start that in January.
  11. Argh! I found the units! I love them both! I almost want to do them in tandem. Am I insane??
  12. Honestly, I could go either way on that. I have materials for both science and history already. :) if we do Hideaways first, I think we would combine Animals and their World with Biblioplan (or just make it a heavy science year). This house loves science, so that wouldn't be a problem.
  13. Yay! I have been thinking of using Foundations next year! It's in the running with God's Great Covenant. :)
  14. Thank you so much for your thoughts! I think I really want to give it a whirl. Here's the question. Where should I place my kiddos?? I'm thinking either Hideaways in History or Animals and their World? What do you guys think? They will be K and 2nd grade.
  15. I have heard some mixed reviews on the customer service at Winter Promise. I ran over to their site, and they have redone everything. I am seriously considering using one of their programs with my girls next year. They will be almost 6 and 7 1/2 when we start next fall. The two programs I am considering are Animals and their World and Hideaways in History. Both look like awesome programs that both girls would enjoy. Currently, my oldest is using Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory and my youngest is using MFW K. Help me! I'm ready to take the plunge. The only thing holding me back is the price tag and the fact that I have heard not so stellar reviews on customer service.
  16. Thank you for the input. I think I have decided to go with 1st grade. I like the looks of the program. We will still be doing our normal school work, but this will help us through this time of me needing to work. Sometimes, we have to do things we don't love.
  17. Hi all! I recently got a work from home job. I still have time to homeschool, but I am working on providing semi - independent work for while I am working. Right now, my 6 1/2 year old is able to do MUS on her own, handwriting, silent reading and things like that. She no longer needs phonics. We are using AAS for spelling though. I am looking to add CLE Reading for a time. I'm not sure which grade level to choose though. She will be 7 in January and is a pretty advanced reader. I am leaning towards trying 2nd grade. Any thoughts? Also, is the tm necessary? I also wonder if the TM for the 1st grade Bible is necessary.
  18. We have gone through AAR 2. DD is halfway through AAS 1 as well. Her reading is phenomenal. For her, both was overkill. She was ready to dive in to good books. We may eventually purchase AAR 3. I'm not sure we need it though.
  19. I posted this same question on Jay Wile ' s Facebook. He suggested using newspaper, so we tried paper from a telephone book. It worked quickly with that. Alsp, we tried black construction paper and it worked well.
  20. I'm so sorry you feel this way. I bought the whole Miquon series and have yet to use it. We also tried Singapore and did not like it. We have finally found our place with Christian Light Education. It is straight forward, scripted, and provides plenty of drill. We love this program now. It is inexpensive as well. You could order a tm and couple light units to give it a try. Either way, deep breaths. Your child is 6 1/2 and only in 1st grade technically. You have not ruined your child at all. If you don't like Miquon, sell it. Then, start looking at others. Math does not have to be flashy, new math. It just needs to get done. Hugs!
  21. I created my class and students before ever trying to log in. Their rep actually walked me through it. The stupid continue he button is just not working.
