  1. This is a great post about CLE. We are in the middle of the 2nd grade program and also getting ready to start their 1st grade with my youngest. I love CLE math! It works. My daughter wasn't retaining at all with Singapore and now all the pieces are there and just fit for her. She needed the basic foundation to begin with. We will add more conceptual teaching when she is ready for it.
  2. Well, a year ago I would have said Beyond. Fast forward to now and I am using Adventures with my 5 and 7 year old. I like the book selections a lot more than I did with HOD. We really did miss picture books in our school work. My oldest is also retaining more this year. We are also adding in the Beautful Feet books. It has been great so far and we are 6 weeks in!
  3. My oldest is in 2nd. For language arts we are using: Growing with Grammar, Soaring with Spelling, Write Shop B, and plain old copywork. GWG and SWS are very much get it done curriculum. It keeps that part of our day shorter leaving plenty of time for fun projects.
  4. We are renovating our school room. I want a good size white board to go on our biggest wall. My girls love to play school and it would be great for group work. What size do you like? The wall is pretty long, so we can probably fit a pretty big one.
  5. IEW seems way easier to implement from the samples. Write Shop wants you to do so much. I am so torn. Maybe we will try Write Shop for a bit. What are you doing for the new year?
  6. I already bought a copy of Wrote Shop B. I should probably just go with it, but I can't get IEW Bible Heroes out of my head. Pros and cons of both programs please??
  7. Are you on Facebook? There is a group called MFW Adventures Over 2 years. There is a schedule in the files there that I will roughly use.
  8. Has anyone used this? Any thoughts on it? The books look great for my 2nd grader. I wish I could see some samples of the TG and student book though. https://www.hewitthomeschooling.com/Materials/mItem.aspx?id=8117
  9. I waited until my girls could blend fairly well. We actually did a portion of MFW K phonics with both before finishing out with AAR. They were both right at five years old.
  10. I'm really excited to combining some resources. We are going to use MFW Adventures as a framework and add in some American Girl studies. I loved those books as a kid, so I hope they love it too!
  11. Hi all! I am making the jump to pulling resources together instead of going with HOD. We are not young earth, so I want to give something new a try. I downloaded Build Your Library K and think I may combine my K and 2nd grader in it. I will of course add in narration, Copywork etc... For my oldest. Does anyone have any book list suggestions for my older though? She easily reads at around a 4th grade level. Would this even be necessary though? Our tentative plans for my 2nd grader: Geography/Science/Art - BYL K Math - CLE 200 or TT3 Language Arts - Growing with Grammar 2 / Soaring with Spelling 1 Reading - DITHOR Level 2 Handwriting - Copywork and possibly cheerful cursive halfway through the year Nature Study - Outdoor Secrets w/ companion / nature journaling Bible - undecided (hit me up with your favs) So should I add anything or will K be enough on its own??
  12. We are ready to start some work with grammar. What do you like to use for 2nd grade? I am evaluating (again) our choices for next year. I own R&S, but I'm not yet sure I want to use it. I thought the Hive could give some advice. TIA
  13. Hi! I would love to hear some reviews on Build Your Library. I am considering using the K and 1st grade cores for my K and 2nd grader starting in the fall and the. Just combine them as we go if we continue with their curriculum. What do you love or like about it if you use it?
  14. I used to feel the sa,e way about HOD. When I first looked at it (many times), I couldn't see myself use it. Now that I have actually used 3 of the guides, I couldn't imagine anything else.
  15. I'm pretty certain it is. We used it here and there with my oldest. I'll go make sure though. I have no clue what language it's in. The books might still be English. Let me check.
  16. Is anyone having issues seeing the English option. I went to look at the program and it's all in a different language. I went to the drop down menu to change it and English is not an option.
  17. My first child just knew how with very little help. She started reading at 4. My youngest had problems with blending at first. She is slowly getting there. She is currently 5.
  18. I didn't see this thread earlier! Our 2nd grade plans Finish up HOD Beyond and move on to Bigger DITHOR Level 2 AAS 3 CLE Math 200 Cursive halfway through the year R&S grammar 2 Finish up our anatomy study Resume piano
  19. I will have an older K'er. She turns 6 in late fall. My plans for her: HOD Little Hearts (last 2/3) AAR 1/2 CLE Math 100 at some point during the year Extra science w/ big sister :)
  20. I'll go first! Finish up Beyond Little Hearts and move on to Bigger. Level 2 DITHOR R&S English 2 CLE Math 2 AAS 3 Continue our guest hollow anatomy if we are not done. Maybe go through Science in the Ancient World (haven't decided) I think that's it. I could be missing something though.
  21. Found the 2nd grade thread...
  22. I would vote for using HOD Beyond, but that's because we are using it right now. I have my two separated, but I'm not adding a baby into the mix. I think Beyond would be easy for you to implement but still have that little bit of hands-on that makes school fun. Good luck deciding!
  23. So I am rethinking HOTMW. I haven't read the ancient world book yet. Decisions, decisions...
  24. I would like to join this year! I'lol order my copy of The Medieval World as well. I am working on a Karen Kingsbury book already, so I will finish it and then start Wind Up Bird since it's in my Kindle library. :) I have some books on my shelf that I need to read as well. :)
  25. We moved to level 1 of AAR as we finished MFW K. There are still lots of blends left in level 1 to learn. :)
