  1. When I started using the Clearproof line from Mary Kay. Seriously. It's like a magic potion. My face was going crazy after so many years of pregnancy.
  2. They've certainly piqued my interest. I can't imagine what it could be, especially since they named their website 'rememberthe13th' but then had to push the announcement date up to tomorrow.
  3. Just wanted to say congrats and welcome home!
  4. Pretty much American. My mother was from Central America. We did have some things regularly that were "ethnic." Black/red beans and rice. Fried plantains. Yucca. Papaya. My grandmother always kept us stocked with mango jam and the one plus of her visiting was the big batch of coconut bread she'd make each time. Oh, flitters! My mom would make flitters sometimes. Kind of like beignets, but we'd put syrup on them. Arroz con pollo. But, she was just as likely to make spaghetti or a roast or fried chicken. We did eat a lot of rice, though. Meals that would include mashed potatoes for other kids always included rice instead. Mashed potatoes were for Thanksgiving and Christmas. :)
  5. Not sure what direction he's coming from, but our current forecast in NE FL is dry on Saturday. We won't feel any effects until late Sunday.
  6. NOAA is still operational. Yes, the noaa.gov website has a closed for business sign (political theater - how much did they have to do to block the site?), but nhc.noaa.gov is up and running and has the disclaimer posted above that it will remain operational because it is necessary for life and property protection. It's all still working. I think we'll be okay.
  7. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCMAT2+shtml/032047.shtml? Really, this shouldn't affect storm coverage. And in hurricane areas, there are lots of actual meteorologists with lots of tropical system experience on staff. I'm not diminishing the importance of NOAA; I'm just saying this isn't really going to affect the region, especially with a weak storm.
  8. Honestly? It's a tropical storm. It may strengthen to a weak CAT1 by landfall, but anyone living on the Gulf coast has weathered plenty of those. Around here, people are still throwing hurricane parties up until a CAT3. I expect the local meteorologists and the Weather channel will be on top of it.
  9. Not much and it's not even distant, considering my mother was an immigrant.
  10. Yes, but I think Shadow fleshed out a lot of the motivations that were missing from Game. Combining both would make a more traditional screenplay with more of the focus being on what Ender doesn't know as opposed to what we the readers didn't know.

  13. We're looking at that one for when we move because I'm pretty sure the upstairs at the new place has posts instead of a solid wall for mounting. Did you happen to use the clamps? If you did, was it easy to install?

  15. Working off the clock is a lot different than reporting for your normal hours without pay. When I was an RN, I always showed up early and reviewed my records and got my meds ready and so forth before my shift started in order to have a smoother day. Sure, I get that. But if my supervisor had called me up and and said, "we need you to work 5 shifts this week, but we can't pay you," I would have laughed at her and started looking for another job. It's a little different when you're working for the Government and the Government tells you to show up.
  16. I am cautiously optimistic. I'm trying really hard to approach this as Ender's Game: The Movie instead of The Movie of Ender's Game. I know they weren't able to put everything from the book into the movie, but I also know that Orson Scott Card retained creative control and I trust he wouldn't hurt his own baby. Fingers crossed.
  17. We have these. We put them in when our oldest was 2 and he couldn't open them until he was almost 6. They're solid.
  18. Maybe once we move. In Florida, my main lesson about drainage ditches and ponds is to watch out for the alligators. :D
  19. The Ave Mater Sequence in Mode 6 by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos. It sounds modern and ancient at the same time and I always pause whatever I'm doing to listen when it comes up on my stream.
  20. Thank you, I'll check that out. Right now, I download a copy of every ebook I get from Amazon onto my Kindle DX, then shut down the wireless. I figure if Amazon every decides they don't want my money anymore, I'll still have all of those ebooks as long as I keep the wireless turned off.
  21. I am so glad we are homeschooling. Multum non multa...
