  1. Even though you said your putting everything together yourself, I wanted to make sure you knew about Adventures in My Father's World by My Father's World Curriculum. It's geared especially for 2nd graders.
  2. Here's what my 8th grader will be doing: Math-BJU pre-algebra (online) Writing-IEW SICC B Grammar-Cozy Grammar 1 Spelling-Spelling Workout H Vocab.-Vocab. Cartoons Typing-Typing Instructor Deluxe Literature-SL Core 100 Science-Noeo Chem.lll History-(with everyone)-U.S. using VP cards w/Hakim and Kingfisher Bible-(with everyone)-VP Act-Rev.cards w/ all the Bible reading/scripture memory using Desiring God's Fighter Versus/catechism using Traing Hearts Teaching Minds Logic-Fallacy Detective
  3. I'm wondering how many full weeks your able to take off, and when you take them. Thanks
  4. I've had great success with Hands and Hearts history kits. We'll be using them again next year for american history. We're also doing two levels of Noeo Chemistry. We'll school 4 days a week and save Friday just for history projects, and science experiments.
  5. I don't mind Uncle Wiggly, but my 5yr. old sure isn't havin' it. I really struggled through SL Core 6 and got completely burned out with historical fiction. I did Core 2 this year and didn't even attempt Ginger Pye after reading about so many negative experiences.
  6. Oh my goodness, I guess I'll turn the news on. I got the chills today too, racing to my in-laws storm shelter as the sirens were going off with rotation up above.
  7. I think I read somewhere that PLL was lacking in grammar instruction, but that may be a CM thing, to delay any formal grammar instruction. I'm not sure, but I've about gone batty researching LA curriculum and trying to decide which direction would be best for us. I've finally decided on IEW and Cozy Grammar. Good luck with your search.
  8. Have you looked at NOEO Science? Your child notebooks using living books, and there are experiments included as well. I'm going back to it after trying Sonlight because I like the notebooking instead of worksheets.
  9. OMG!!! Jaw dropping, literally. Thank you so much.
  10. Thanks OhE, I've used both IEW SWI w/dvds, and Easy Grammar w/ my older ds. So that is another route I need to think about since they probably would be less teacher intensive than FLL and WWE. Thanks for your input. I'm going to look at Writing Tales as well.
  11. Thanks Donna. Ya, I'm really looking into FLL and WWE again. Just not sure which levels to place her in. I think level 3 for FLL, but not sure about WWE.
  12. What would you use for an upcoming 4th grader whose almost always used BJU, and really needs a break from it for awhile?
  13. I think it would be nice to have for your younger dc. I think they would like the map activities, and coloring pages. You'd also be able to choose some more age appropriate books for them from the booklists provided in each chapter.
  14. Sounds good to me. Where do I get this completed timeline your talking about? My dc never wanted anything to do with their timelines, so I gave up a long time ago.
  15. Mystery of History is another. There are charts on Paula's Archives that correlate it with SOTW. We listened to MOH audio cd's to give us the biblical history we needed when using SOTW w/ activity guide.
  16. I just started RS A w/ my soon to be K'er today too! Our lesson went great as well. My son loved it. Hope we both continue to have success.
  17. BTDT. It was the worst time in my life. I was depressed and having panic attacks. We had to put our kids back in CS for a year. Brought them back and started BJU distance learning for the older two's basics. It has been a life saver. I had to let go of all my WTM fantasies that were unrealistic for our family. Next year the two olders will use BJU hardrive again, for math, lang. arts, and science. We will all do bible and history together using VP cards, SL literature and Hands and Hearts history kits. We will just read together and do fun projects. And I will have time to do kindergarten with my 5 yr. old. I think trying to keep up with what your doing would require some serious spiritual leadership, and time to keep a very close walk with God. I'm so sorry your going through this, there is light at the end of the tunnel your in. Try to rest in Him, and pray that He'd reveal His will for your homeschool.
  18. I think you'd be wise to stick w/ MFW. I think you'd really miss the chronological biblical focus if you switched to SL. I know I did when using Core 6. You can always supplement with any SL books you want to.
  19. John Piper's Desiring God ministries has a memory verse system called Fighter Verses that's really cool. I need to learn how to link, I apologize.
  20. I have no problem with reformed doctrine. I've been reformed for almost 10 years now. It's the dominion theology of reconstructionism that stems from a postmillenial view of the end times that I'm concerned about. I can't believe I started this thread, I guess something in me was just so sure, and I just felt the urge to get the info out there. But, it was very imature, and careless of me, and again I really do apologize.
  21. Oh dear, wish I'd never started this. I guess I have no solid proof. It was the review for Streams of Civilization ll on Amazon that started this. And then googling Doug Wilson. So I guess I assumed guilt by association. So I'm so sorry I labled them based on my assumptions. Would love to be proved wrong.
  22. Maybe my conclusions about VP are presumptuous. I guess the connection with Doug Wilson and all the CLP books they use made me assume.
  23. Just needed to acknowledge that for some reason. I'm not intelligent enough to explain, or debate it. Reading a review of Streams of Civilization ll on Amazon is what opened my eyes, and started my research. And I was concerned about the Hakim books. Geesh:tongue_smilie: Again, not wanting to stir anything up, I still plan on using the VP cards. I also use BJU even though I don't believe in some of their theology. This was just quite eye opening for me, and very interesting to say the least.
  24. You also can't go wrong with Sonlight P3/4 and 4/5 books. I'd say start with 3/4 for those ages.
  25. You should check out the Teaching Character Through Liturature guide at Beautiful Feet Books. I haven't used it, but it looks neat and is an award winner. They also carry book packages.
