  1. I'm looking to find a program for my kindergartener. What would you recommend?
  2. I've seen on many signatures that they have a child using multiple math books at the same grade? Doesn't it get confusing and complicated?
  3. I'm starting to research into what we'll do for my daughters kindergarten year and I'm not sure where to start. I like the idea of a boxed curriculum just for the peace of mind knowing I'm covering it all. But on the other hand I'm not sure I would like to be stuck using only one source.
  4. I was wondering what should be taught in kindergarten (ie. subjects)?
  5. Do you use a boxed curriculum (from one source ie. oak meadow) or do you pick and choose from several different sources to fit your child's needs? And if you go with a full (box) curriculum which one do you go with? and Why?
  6. So we are on lesson 38. Not too far into it. My daughter is sounding out words really well, but not reading the words right off. If she can sound them out should I be moving on the next day or should I do reviews till she can read the word?
  7. I love this idea. My daughter is a bit ahead of where others her age are and we are using Saxon math K this year, but I know that she already know a lot. This would help us lighten our load for the year. We will definitely use this idea in future years too.
  8. Is the manual meant to leach a new lesson everyday? or should I be staying on a lesson (repeated) a few times then move on? What did you do?
  9. We haven't cooked from it yet, but just glancing through it, everything seems from scratch. Only on occasion will it call for a can of something. All the recipes look so yummy. One week I'm looking forward is for Mike mulligan and his steam shovel. You'll Make Irish stew and Oat scones. Yum!
  10. We are planning on using volume 1 this fall. We just got our RR box with all our books and I'm really excited to get going. the lessons look really fun. We also love cooking so I got the Cookbook too. We're ready for a fun year.
  11. Excellent! That will be great. We will skip it.
  12. I would love to see your list when you have it done. I'm a list kind of person too.
  13. We just got our book and I've taken a look over it and the first 26 lessons are teaching the sounds of the letters. My question is: my 4.5 daughter already knows the letter sounds, would we be able to skip these lessons, or will the rhymes they teach be used later in other lessons?
  14. We are so excited to start of preschool year. We've been tinkering around with a less formal preschool this past year (at my daughters request). We had a lot of fun. I've ordered our books and now they are starting to trickle in. I think my Reading Rainbow order comes today. Very excited! We are going to use FIAR vol 1, OPGTR, Saxon K, and R&S preschool. Obviously not all done on the same day. But I've set out a nice schedule to slowly work through our stuff. It's going to be fun. My daughter is very excited. As she has seen our books coming in she keeps asking when we are starting. She's also going to start a pre--dance class that will be once a week. Just for fun. It's going to be a great year. It'll be a nice laid back year to get us used to homeschooling so where ready for Kindergarten.
  15. Ever since I updated to the newest firefox non of my video's will play. I tried loading the newest version of adobe, but it still won't work. I had to switch to safari to use abethekey.com for my preschooler. I'm sure it's a firefox problem on their newest version.
  16. I know that many of you don't do preschool, but thought that there were a few of us that do that could benefit from some ideas. Here is what we are doing for preschool (age almost 5)? Reading The ordinary parent’s guide to teaching reading I see Sam books set 2 Core Rod & Staff ABC preschool workbooks Five in a Row Vol. 1 & Cookbook Saxon K Writing Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Kindergarten Since I can afford only 1 volume of FIAR I'm going to row a book every other week and alternate it with R&S ABC preschool. My daughter is fairly advanced for preschool plus she will be so close to age 5 when we start that I think she will have fun with this set up this year. For those that do preschool what are your 2012-2013 plans?
  17. I just bought slow and steady get me ready for my soon to be 3 year old. It has activities from birth to age 5. after looking though it is seems like there are lots of activities that are considered math for that age. It looks like a lot of fun and we just did our second week of activities. For that age lots of activities are considered math. shapes, simple counting. I haven't seen anything that would be like a curriculum for that age. You might want to check out that book. It's fun.
  18. I found myself wanting to start K this next fall, but I decided to just slow it down a bit and just do an advance prek. I wanted to make sure that if she had to be put in Ps that she was the right age for the grade.
  19. I had my daughter watch the leap frog videos. I think it's the getting ready for school one that covered months and days of the week.
  20. Thanks for the link. Since I'm Right handed I have been sure how to teach her.
  21. that's a good point. If I only have to buy the cheap one I would just buy her her own. Thanks for pointing that out.
