  1. This is our sort of plan for k. What do you think? like/dislikes and why Core plan Five in a Row Supplemented with: Math Saxon K Reading The ordinary parents’ guide to teaching reading explode the code I see sam books Writing zaner-bloser-handwriting Science Mudpies to Magnets Pro's/con's of anything I've planned?
  2. Thanks for all the advice everyone. I can't wait to check out your blog. I've really wanted to see what it's really like. Thanks for the link.
  3. Which would you recommend for 4 turning 5 year old BFIAR or FIAR? I need to add that she's very advanced as a preschooler goes. Also, those who have tried this program did you like/dislike it? and why
  4. My daughter is now 4 but doesn't turn 5 till November. So technically she's not in k for another year after next. She's very bright and "needs something to do" and asks to "do school" all the time. We've been toying around with reading eggs and some online worksheets and such. She already know's most if not all preschool and some k already. I'm not sure whether to just start reading more with her and leave her off of academics next year (meaning formal k text books) or to start her slowly and at her pace. I'm torn. I don't want to burn her desire for learning by either not following her pace or letting her do more (like a k year). What's your opinions? What have you done?
  5. Would you recommend Saxon for k math or not to do formal math for k? Or start 1st with Saxon then?
  6. Mommy to:

dd 4 I see sam books, Reading eggs, Kumon workbooks, Sensory bins, Hand on play, nature walks, lots of reading time with mommy.

dd 2 little shadow of dd 4, lots of reading time with mommy.

  7. My daughter is the same. She's always asking to "do school". I'm trying not to push her so I'll ask her what she wants to do. She'll usually tell me reading eggs, coloring, art, or reading. At his age just follow his ques and you can't go wrong. It's not like your pushing him. I know that classical hs doesn't encourage academics early, but I wouldn't hold him back. You probably wouldn't want anything text book, but lots of fun hands on learning won't hurt him. There is also lots of really fun and engaging computer learning game online that are either free or really inexpensive. My 4 year old loves playing games like reading eggs, ABCya, and anything on PBS.org. Also, try some cut and paste activities for him to learn some new skills.
