  1. Thanks! I didn't think of looking there. duh! Those are nice suggestions.
  2. I haven't seen this on the forum yet, so I though I'd share it with you. I just found out that LibriVox has free Roku channel with hundreds of audio books. You can find that channel from this link. http://www.rokuguide.com/private-channels/librivox . I also found that Wiki has a list of books recorded on LibriVox that Ambleside has on there book lists per year. http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/Recordings_of_Books_on_the_Ambleside_List. I really excited to have found both of these. It's going to be a great combination of resources. I love free! I thought I might also ask is you know of any free Roku channels that are actually good channels? (Links too if you have them)
  3. I looked at ambleside but couldn't find their memory work. Guess I'll need to do some more poking around.
  4. I've been looking for memory work for my kindergartener. Is there a website with age appropriate memory work? I've got some verses already in mind, so that's covered. I thought It's be nice to work in some neat poems, but can't seem to find any that would be simple enough for a k'er. Any suggestions?
  5. My daughter turns 3 and I need gift ideas. Open ended toys that are educational. Any ideas?
  6. I just found that Elemental science has a yahoo group. And under the file section there is lots of helpful files. Just thought I'd share it for those the didn't know it was there. 8-) Hope it helps someone.
  7. Now that Sassafras Zoology has been our for several months now does anyone want to tell me what you have thought now that you've had time to try it out?
  8. I actually was just on that site. It didn't work for me either. I sent them a note about it. Hopefully they'll fix it soon. They've been really quick to respond to me emails.
  9. Great! that's nice to know. I love the look of them. Are the bins really durable?
  10. Anyone tried trofast bins from Ikea? Are they any good? The price looks good. Any other recommendations for nice sturdy boxes that hang for using for a work-box system?
  11. These have all been great recommendations. I appreciate all the feed back. These are all great!
  12. :iagree:That sound like a great plan! It would be nice to have several weeks all laid out and ready to go. I like your idea.:001_smile:
  13. Is there a site that breaks down what subjects should be taught for each grade?
  14. It's hard when the husband/father is gone a lot. Big hug! I know how you feel. My husband is going to school full time and has a very heavy homework load. We literally never see him. He's been going to school now for 3 years and has 2 1/2 more to go. Some days are just too much. I really could use a break. Hang in there! Don't give up. Maybe you need to figure out an easier approach to schooling. I haven't tried k12, but I've heard that it's pretty involved. Simplify!!!! Since your kids are little you could try some more simpler curriculum that are open and go and just go back to the basics and leave out the extras for now till your kiddos are a bit older and can do some self teaching. There's some great resources out there. My daughter starts K next year and I done a lot of research to find easy and open and go books for her. Things that I don't have to do much prep work. Hang in there. I understand how you feel. It is hard when you have to do everything alone.
  15. These both look great! this is what I was looking for. Great suggestions.
  16. I thought a fun skill to teach my daughter would be cooking. I love to cook and hope she'll love it too. I encourage her to help me cook as much as she's interested. I was wondering if anyone knew of a fun book (like a cook book) with mini lessons to teach kids to cook? I have the ability to teach her myself, but sometimes it's fun to have new ideas and new recipes.
  17. I remember using the Safety kids program when I was little and was surprised to see it's still around. I was thinking of getting this for my daughters. Are there any other safety programs that I don't know about?
  18. Is it a curriculum, experiment set, or book? curriculum Title plus a link Elemental Science http://elementalscience.com/ A brief description a science book has laid out lessons using science books from WTM. ie. Kingfisher encyclopedias, Useborne encyclopedias, Dorling Kindersley's DK Encyclopedias. As well as additional lessons laid out in an easy and open and go format. Additionally their is an list of needed items that is already compiles for you. If it is a complete or partial year course (if a curriculum) Full year Level of material or what types of students would enjoy it There is are curriculums for Preschool- 8th grade. If a student can use it independently We've been using the younger age books, but I've read that it is set up to be independent as the child gets to 5th grade. If it includes tests ? (not for younger years but not sure for the older grades) If it includes the supplies needed for experiments You can purchase from their site a complete package of what you'll need for the experiments. Please note if the material has a christian overlay, YE approach, or other important overlay She's tried to keep the books neutral. We've been using the Exploring Science for preschool and really love it. I've looked at the other grades and think they look nicely put together.
