  1. All the males in my family are sleepwalkers, especially when they're overly tired. Attempting to use some other place for a potty is common.
  2. anything that has to do with pre-judging based on outward appearances: clothing hairstyle haircolor piercings tattoos size (especially overweight)
  3. this can sometimes be helped by using colored plastic overlays.
  4. Dh had this years ago and received much relief from a special "boot" the doctor got him that forced his foot/ankle into the proper position while he slept. I recently saw something similar in the drug store, in the section where they have the wrist and knee braces and such.
  5. When youngest was 3yo and potty training, we were in an IHOP when he successfully used the bathroom. As he came out, he announced to the crowd, "Me did it! Me did it! Me made peepee in the potty! Hockey cards for everyone!" He had some speech issues, so I don't think too many people knew what he was saying, but his brothers were ready to crawl under the table. About the hockey cards: I had bought a tin of hockey cards (like baseball cards) and I gave them out to the boys as rewards for little accomplishments.
  6. I really don't enjoy being read to. I'm a very visual learner, so I'd much rather read it myself, thankyouverymuch.
  7. :grouphug: I'm so frustrated to hear of someone claiming Christ behaving in such a decidedly unChristlike manner.
  8. Here's a link to a site where you can use some Sketchpad explorations without having to do the setup yourself -- and you don't need the software. http://www.keymath.com/x19849.xml
  9. I use Discovering Geometry: An Investigative Approach to teach Geometry at our co-op. It is very much hands-on. There are links to dynamic explorations of concepts, using the Geometer's Sketchpad. You can find them here: http://www.keymath.com/x19849.xml HTH
  10. I didn't see it live, but dh did, and then I skimmed the transcript online. That man certainly took the opportunity he had on the national stage (Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony) to preach the Gospel! And they introduced him as "The Quiet One"....
  11. If your student has done Algebra I in 8th grade, it won't make as much of a difference. But the PSAT, taken in October of 11th grade, is pretty Geometry-intensive. So if they do Alg I 9th grade, they really do need to do Geometry next rather than Alg II, IMO.
  12. I prefer to read the ESV, but I REALLY like the study features in my good old KJV. I kind of use them together.
  13. My ds has a friend who does this. Ketchup on waffles. Ketchup on chicken salad sandwiches. I don't think the kid really tastes anything he eats.
  14. Call your creditors up front and explain the situation. They're much more likely to work with you that way. Be willing to accept help -- from family, friends, church folk, even the government. Talk with your kids. Explain as much as they can handle. Let them be a part of the changes you need to make. I'll tell you what NOT to do: Don't take one of those offers for a low interest credit card with balance transfer unless you're absolutely sure they'll transfer the whole balance. We transferred two cards, thinking our payments would be lower. BUT, they didn't transfer the whole thing, and we ended up with four payments a month instead of two -- that started a downward spiral. 15. Next year for me. My sister's already there. What bothers me is that my little brother will be 50 in two years. 14yos is looking for some 70s clothes for a teen event tomorrow night. We were just looking thru one of my old yearbooks and laughing.
  16. Some of what I took to college: Pink Floyd Simon and Garfunkel Fleetwood Mac Beach Boys Billy Joel Jefferson Airplane England Dan and John Ford Coley Leo Sayer Doobie Brothers Jim Croce Harry Chapin I also took tapes I made from my Mom's Broadway Musicals soundtracks and Big Band records. I had strange music tastes.
  17. due to health (Alzheimer's Disease), dh can no longer work. He most recently worked as a Door Greeter, and a Security Guard before that. When we met, he and I were both working as Mechanical Design Engineers. I now stay home, teach Geometry and Physics at our co-op, and tutor math, as well as homeschool our sons.
  18. How can they guarantee that the chickens don't eat any insects?
  19. He spent most of the first two days back just sleeping. But he started talking last night -- wow!! He is so pumped up and ready to go back next week, LOL. I've prayed for your son. Keep us updated.
  20. My Grandma worked for one of the local school districts, in administration. She was known to be the one who knew all the regulations. At that time (mid-to-late-60s), it was illegal for a public school to require a student to supply any of his own school supplies. The schools even had to make pencils and notebook paper available to the student. It wasn't a well-known rule, and parents and students still went thru the back-to-school shopping ritual, but there weren't the published lists like there are now. I remember a couple of years ago running into a neighbor Mom at Wal-Mart. She said that her son would get extra credit points to start the school year by bringing in items from the list. And he was in high school!!
  21. We have lots of OLD books. Many over 100 years old. I don't know which specific book is the oldest -- I'd have to do some digging.
  22. My Mom was forced to change the date of her wedding from sometime in the Fall to August. Why? Because my grandmother (her soon-to-be-MIL) was going to be a delegate to the Republican National Convention and Grandma figured that she would save money by making only one trip to CA from KS, rather than two. Then, Mom was told that my Dad's niece would be flower girl in their wedding. Mom hadn't wanted a flower girl. Flower girl was only 3yo; she sat down in the middle of the aisle and cried and refused to move. In the movie from my parents' reception, you can clearly see my Uncle (Dad's brother) gallantly taking my Mom's coat from her as he helps her into the car, then still holding the coat as he closes the door and waves goodbye and they drive off. Mom really missed that coat during the cold evenings of their honeymoon. 28 years later: I drove my adopted Grandma to Southern Cal for my sister's wedding. We went a couple of days early to help with preparations. We had been there a couple of hours when Grandma announced she was taking us out to dinner. She missed the bottom step coming out of the apartment, fell and broke her hip. Instead of going to dinner, we followed the ambulance to the ER. She had to have surgery the next day. The morning of the wedding, sis is modeling her dress for us, when we realize that her strapless bra doesn't work with the dress. We spend the next two hours crazily driving around L.A., looking for the right bra. We get home and the best man calls to tell my sister that her groom got totally smashed the night before at the bachelor party and is in no shape to get married that day. It turns out to be a very cruel joke -- groom is fine, but sister's makeup has been ruined as she burst into tears at the news. We're frantic to get her fixed up and to the church on time, because the pastor has a standing rule that he will wait no more than 10 minutes for anyone. The wedding was fine, and the wedding party made a detour by the hospital on the way to the reception so Grandma could see us all dressed up. 3 years later, it's time for me to get married. A few days before, same adopted Grandma falls and breaks her pelvis, has to have surgery. While I'm at the church getting ready, my Mom is frantically trying to find out where her brother is, because he was supposed to go get my (real) Grandma from the assisted living place and get her dressed. They finally show up, with Grandma definitely not dressed up. It turns out that as they were leaving to go to Grandma's their paperboy fell off his bike and split his head open in their driveway. They had to wait for the ambulance to take him before they could get out. Wedding was quick and simple; reception was fine. Wedding party went by adopted Grandma's house so she could see us all dressed up.
