  2. I'm not sure it'll help stop something like that, but instead not exacerbate it with certain things, and possibly ease it with the others. Regardless, it's definitely a medical emergency! Realistically, I think even making sure they check for this phenomenon, hospital staff may not be able to stop it. It seems really rare, though. Secondary infections are much more likely and can be just as dangerous. We just don't know it all yet, and we can't fix everything. :(
  3. For what it's worth, and with no contextual information about this site, I found this: http://www.naturalmedicinemamas.com/nmm-blog/cytokine-storm-and-herbs-life-or-death-information I've also learned about the difference between fish oil vitamin A and beta-carotene, or at least, that there is a difference. I have another kid down. :( ETA: we were advised to give big doses of vitamin A; that's how I ended up learning that.
  4. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: I'm sorry, Beth.
  5. Yep, I didn't allow the sick one to watch for that reason. Just made the other two be quiet, and am breaking up their seat work into two parts instead of a long morning session. This wiped 5 commitments off my calendar this week; not sure if I'm happy or sad about that...
  6. Thanks y'all!! And texasmama, I got all those links pulled. It might take me a while to read them, though!! I have to order the syrup; I was able to get a spray (elderberry & echinacea). Is there a limit to number of doses/day? Doesn't say on the bottle.
  7. Oh I'm not concerned. The relative was. But it's also something I know nothing about because we're not in an increased risk category. I'll go dig up that thread, though. :)
  8. Also, found this... https://www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2013/01/should-i-take-tamiflu-to-treat-the-flu/index.htm
  9. :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: We haven't dealt with this, so I have no advice. I'm so sorry, though.
  10. I recall it coming up recently. One of mine is sick with I'm not sure what yet. We're a just-be-sick family. No flu shots, no flu tests, Tamiflu hadn't crossed my mind, honestly. If it's obviously viral, we just stay home and rest, stay fluid-filled, and take Vitamin C (and now monolaurin). Just wait it out. Good hygiene, etc. None of us are at risk for complications, afaik. But a relative has suggested the Tamiflu route. Sounds great! Catch it early, greatly reduce severity and length of infection... But could it be like antibiotics except with antivirals, where overuse could contribute to diminishing returns and eventually resistant strains?
  11. :hurray: But will that water go somewhere else, or it just didn't do much? Not one of my strong subject. :confused1:
  12. While we're talking about Lemon Balm, are the capsules worth it? Or should I just grow a plant?
  13. One of my kids woke up sick today, of course. :)

  15. Well are y'all a generally mellow family?
  16. The router is in our bedroom... :leaving:
  17. Today was our 4th day this month. :svengo: In my defense, we've been painting and fixing and such, and they've helped a good bit. Then snow happened. I report our school year as the full 12 months, but still...
  18. Painting in the kitchen and bathroom DONE! Some baseboards installed, plans for transition strips. And I got little paint samples for touch ups in the rooms I'm not painting. So we can get back to regular chores and trying to stay on top of them. I plan to do the little touch up stuff here and there in my free time. We're still rounding up stray Christmas stuff, too. :D ETA: I also have a lot of unfiled seatwork papers that need taking care of. At least enough to fill a 1/2" binder.
  19. I sort of want to go back to bed until Tuesday. :D We need to tidy up the house from the weekend dishes, laundry (kids' day), kitchen clean up seatwork (DD didn't finish; shuffled to the morning) errands actually cook dinner test fish tank water (no clue what the results mean, but done. :)) change hamster bedding haircuts I think I have to add a cat nap... That's it, I'm done. The others are getting rolled over to Tuesday.
  20. #2--or whatever similar project that needed doing. The other two I can do easily enough on normal days. ETA: something insane would have to happen for this to ever happen before they leave the house, though. Which I'm ok with. :) They'll be gone faster than I wish.
