  1. I haven't read beyond the OP. I just wanted to make a suggestion for the Space Center day. Dixie Crossroads in Titusville is fabulous. Great seafood and really cheap kids meals. The rock shimp are great. Really local. They keep bringing baskets of little donut like things. They are sooo good.
  2. This is just another idea--I have no idea on the AP verses college Latin. She could study for the National Latin Exam. There are practice tests on line. My understanding is a good score/medal on these is highly respected. If you have missed sign up for other courses maybe this would be an option. Maybe use a text like Wheelocks and self study. The sample exams would help her determine level. I would start at the beginning and work up. Hopefully that will be more positive. A knowledge of Roman geography and culture is required.:grouphug:
  3. I love that line. I am so impressed that he remembered to say it. I always think of those after. Yeah Wolf!!!
  4. I would ask if you can have a meeting with the hospital nutritionist before bringing him home or shortly after. It is going to be a life style change for you potentially. It will be easier if you have help. When my father was diagnosed with diabetes my mom received a lot of support from a dietitian. It made it far easier for her to help him. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  5. I googled. Now I know who/what honey boo boo is. I saw a thread or two. Didn't read them. I thought it was a hive thing. Honey.......boy do I feel dumb!:lol::lol:
  6. We did buy a microscope. DH searched the internet and bought a fairly nice one for a lot less then $300. They love it and use it frequently. If someone gets cut they run to get a slide--fresh blood with moving cells is a favorite! Their own explorations have been great. But remember all of the Apologia stuff so far (on chapter 10) can be found by google. Frequently with far more magnification then a normal microscope will provide. Normally they draw and label from my kindle fire. I am not saying not to invest in a microscope. My kids really love theirs. It is important to learn to make slides and do the experiments. I am simply saying to spend what you are comfortable with and use the internet for better magnification. Also it is so easy to make sure we are all looking at the same thing and labeling correctly.
  7. Think about getting a cat. They are supposedly great a killing snakes. Extra protection would be good.
  8. We generally just eat them heated with cheese. Essentially a cheese sandwich. At two sandwiches per person they are all gone in a couple of weeks. For us this is a school day lunch staple. We get the smaller size. A friend uses flour tortilla as hot dog buns. My kids like it. Maybe corn would be good, sort of a lower fat corn dog?
  9. We are currently making our way through both apologia chemistry and biology. As long as the algebra is there I would prefer to do the chemistry first. The first four chapters(that is all we have completed) are all about manipulating equations and converting units of measurement. The explanations are extremely good. Lots of practice provided.IMO.
  10. I think doctors really worry when the sides are different sizes. Mine are. I have been checked and tested. Most of it was done in my early 20's. They were just starting to do the multiple blood tests then. So I had some awful stuff done. Since then I have a blood draw occasionally and my synthroid adjusted if needed. Try not to push on it too much -- I managed to make mine swollen and sore, which just upset me more. Mine is really hard for me to feel now with the medicine. But I try to never push on it. I would talk to your doctor about a blood draw. Synthroid is one of the most comman drugs taken by women. I can 't remember the statistics but it is comman like 50% at some point in life. I feel much better when my dosage is right. It affects a lot of things -- my hair started turning white massively in my early 40's. After I had things adjusted it stopped and has pretty much reversed itself -- the thyroid affects all sorts of things. I really do not mean to scare you because I doubt there is anything wrong. A blood test is really easy and will help you and your sister to stop worrying. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  11. I really have no brand advice, but after having 2 different chest style freezers, I would simply get the one that fits your space. Staying organized is going to be a huge challenge with one. Things fall to the bottom and stay there. I always kept frozen turkeys bought cheap at Thanksgiving on the bottom. I am not sure how many days you need to plan ahead for but you are probably going to need a method of keeping each days food together--a giant zip lock or you will go nuts. I hope your diet rotation goes well. :grouphug:
  12. The only thing I could think of is Khan academy. When you register them with their own accounts and you as teacher they can do some sort of mapping. They receive qustions on a subject to complete (5, I think) and if proficient automatically moved on to th next topic. This continues through the topic offered, watching the teaching portions when needed.
  13. The cat I had growing up on a farm was a fabulus mouser--15 or so most days. He lined them up on the front step so we could see his efforts. He refused to deal with indoor mice. I think he considered them to be pets! He would move so they could go by.:lol::lol: I really hate mice. Rodents in general so :grouphug:.
  14. I think it is fine. Ds 12 and most of his friends have read them in the past year. Really loved them.
  15. I just wanted to say welcome and give you a bump. I am sure others will have better ideas for grammar. We always used Shurley and First Language Lessons. For science we really enjoyed Ellen McHenry courses. Remember you can always change if something isn't working.
  16. Her absolute favorite paper is Bockingford. She has pads that are " gummed." Which basically means all 4 sides are attached to the pad. No crinkled edges. No weighing her paintings down while drying. Really nice. These are pretty expensive. She receives $$$ for art stuff and spends it as she wishes--she only uses that paper for her best work. For playing around she collects other cheaper stuff. She bought some Strathmore 400 when we were in the states. She liked it. She had Michaels coupons which determined her brand. She didn't get to use it much because by the time she made all of her art purchases we were on our way back here. She is ready for next year! When I asked about paper today she cracked up. Wants to know if brushes are tomorrow. FYI -- she loves her sable rigger. She spent about £4 for her one here not sure about the US version. She saw a camel hair one the other day that she wanted--just not with her money. Just so you know we aren't being mean -- dd is 14 and needs to learn how to budget a bit. Between all of her hobbies she can spend a lot. Dh and I frequently buy her wish items for presents.
  17. I know that I am slightly off topic but ds kept setting machines off about 5 years ago on a vacation both in Europe and US. We finally figured out his problem was a store security tag inside his trousers. I had not removed it -- just a cloth tag that apparently had something in it for theft. They had been washed at least a dozen times. Maybe this will help someone. It did say to remove it but I never look inside clothing. :glare: I just remove price tags and wash new things.
  18. Similar --dd thinks they look nice. They look like the same concept. The little cakes make fabulous color with little mess. The Cotman case has areas to mix your paints. So really self contained.
  19. Congratulations!!! It sounds great!
  20. My kids love pin trading and have tons -- around 200 each. We buy some in the parks. Also off ebay then trade. They brought part of their collections back to the UK this year along with 20 or so traders for our trip to Disney Paris. They are probably happier about the pin trading potential than going to the parks.:lol::lol: Personally I would fix each child up with a lanyard and several pins so they can keep retrading throughout the trip for their souvenirs. They might keep them longer then a t shirt but that is me.
  21. I post on my kindle fire and have no idea how to do links. We live in the UK and dd gets most of her supplies from Ken Bromley if you want to look there. I went into dick blick and found these. I cannot find individual half pans like she buys. They do have Cotman (student quality Windsor and Newton paints). She said both the Cotman mini-watercolor set 00325-1039 and the Cotman Compact set for landscapes 00325-1029 look good. Depenting on what she wants to paint. Dds teacher restricted her to just 3 colors for her landscapes last year. They are gorgeous -- you don't need many colors if mixed properly. She is fairly certain she has seen Winsor and Newton supplies at Michael's -- artist quality. She also recommends "proper" paper. The quality of her paintings increased hugely when she added better paper. I hope this helps. If you have more questions let me know.
