  1. Dh is looking at getting a job about 4hrs away. There is no way that he can commute and there is no way we could afford for him to stay in a hotel until our home sells--- The houses in our area are not selling! Dh's job will pay 6 months on one of the mortgages---not sure how to explain this. What do you do? Do you purchase another home? What do you do after the 6 months--what if you have purchased another home--what happens??? We can not afford 2 mortgages! We just refinanced last year, will this hurt us? I recall our mortgage lender telling me that the good thing about our loan, is that we could sign it over to someone and they would have the same payment and rate as we do now. I am not sure if this would be an incentive for someone to purchase our house. We wouldn't be looking for anything but the pay off. Any advice?
  2. Ds just started using the honey facial on Sunday. I read on here that sometimes your face will get worse before it gets better. He is wondering how long before it gets better! He had light to mild case of acne and he has eczema--which I was hoping the honey would help too--he does not like lotions at all! It seems like his face is a little more bumpy--not the white/black heads--Sorry TMI. Is this normal? Thanks!
  3. How do you teach them to read music? Dd plays by ear. She takes piano and violin lessons. The teachers have come to me and asked that I work with her during her practice time having her read the music. I know NOTHING about music. How am I to have her read her music rather than playing by ear?

  5. Any thoughts on this? I am looking for something for ds that isn't boring! This looks interesting, but would love some feedback about it. Thanks
  6. Looking for a geography course for ds. What do you use?
  7. I am going to look at it tomorrow at my library
  8. Anyone seen this or even used this? http://www.kissmymath.com/book/
  9. He is the one that came up with Greek and mythology. I will have to see if he wants to do something else. I would love to have his senior year...easy, well easier.
  10. My youngest son is going to be in high school next year. He is going to be taking some courses that my oldest did but some that my oldest took he is not interested in. So far the electives we have come up with for him is Mythology = 1/2 credit Bible 1 = 1 credit Bible 2 = 1 credit Greek 1 = 1 credit Greek 2 = 1 credit Spanish 1 = 1 credit Spanish 2 = 1 credit Keyboarding = 1/2 credit Computer = 1 credit Personal Finance = 1/2 credit Consumer Math = 1 credit Marine Biology = 1 credit Music = 1/2 to 1 credit Health = 1/2 credit Debate = 1/2 credit Speech = 1/2 credit Art = 1/2 credit (?) Career Planning = 1/2 credit (?) Philosophy = 1/2 credit (?) Logic 1 = 1 credit Logic 2 = 1 credit
  11. I made sure oldest had more than enough electives just in case the Bible course was not accepted. I just hate that they can not receive a credit for the work that they put into an elective and a college will not accept it. I was trying to figure out a way that they would...by wording it differently. I thought about saying Theology 1 and Theology 2. I had someone tell me to word it as World Mythology..since ds is going to study mythology next year. I would give him 3 credits if I do this. 1 credit for Mythology and 2 credits for Bible.
  12. Oldest ds took Bible and I gave him 2 credits--1 for OT and 1 for NT. The college ds applied for did not accept these credits. Is there a way to get colleges to accept these--if we word it differently?
  13. If you don't finish giving a puppy its shots..don't you have to start over? Someone has asked me this and I told them I thought they would have to start over and get the booster shots again since they did not finish out the cycle and they need to get a rabies shot. The dog is 4months old now
  14. Dc only write papers in english or for their online writing class. They do need more writing...not that I am a good teacher at writing, but I feel like we need to be writing more. I was thinking the other day that dc could write about something in their science that they are studying. I just started having them write a book reports for every other book that they read. At what age do you stop book reports? I am not creative enough to come up with ideas for papers. If you are like me where do you get your ideas?
  15. I was wondering how much teaching do you do with your dc? Dh asked me the other day what ds did in science other than read. Ds had completed 99% of the labs in a lab class in the beginning of the year, so I don't require him to do the labs in the book, unless he wants to. I normally go over the lesson in R&S grammar and if they need help in math, I am there. Other than that I don't "teach" anything else.
  16. I will check into that. With that course and Dave Ramsey..will you give dc a full credit?
  17. take a course in finances? I REALLY want my dc to take a finance class. If you use one... what do you use and how much credit do you give them for the course?
  18. What do you use for health in highschool? Does health equal 1/2 credit or a whole credit?
  19. Where do I find the maps in Sonlight? I have the answer key for them in the IG, but I don't have them for the student. I see that Sonlight sells Uncle Josh's Outline Maps. Does that have everything? Does this go with all the books? We are using 120 History from Sonlight and it has maps from the reading books and History of US. I see that UJ's only has 100 maps. I don't want to waste my money if this is not what I need.
  20. I do know a little about this program, but want to hear from others. So please tell me your likes and dislikes about this program. I used TT with dd in 5th grade..using the 6th grade book. I heard all the great reviews and decided to try it for my dd, who is not a mathy child at all. I was OK with it...liked the thought of her learning from someone(thing) else..we didn't have to argue about math! Dd loved TT and did ask if she could stay with it. BUT, I decided to change this year to Chalkdust, but it moved to fast for her, then we went to R&S--just wasn't grasping it...not sure if it was their teaching methods or what, and now she just started Saxon--She likes it, but would still prefer TT, if I gave her a choice. The reason I switched her is because I thought TT was not rigorous enough and it seemed to be a grade behind--so I wasn't sure what else it might be lacking. Since this is a new program and has not be on the market very long, I would love to hear from those that have used this with their dc 7th grade-high school. How well did your dc do on their SAT and ACT? How well are they doing in college? Do you think that this program is enough on its own? Any other feedback?? Thanks!
