  1. How did you look for your orthodontist? I took dd to the orthodontist today for a consultation. They said she needed something--sorry cant remember what it was called--to help her bite. So she will need two different sessions, one for the plate to help her bite and then braces. So the first session will be around $1,000, then the braces almost $6,000!!!:svengo: Does that sound right??? Did you call and ask--how much will this and that be or just go in and talk with them? We do have insurance, but it only pays so much and thats it, so the majority we will have to pay out of pocket.
  2. I don't care much for Saxon either, but I don't know what else to use. I don't like Abeka, BJU or Lial's.
  3. Ds has been using CD Alg 1 but is not comprehending it. I was wondering if the program provides enough explanation for the student and parents--if needed. I am going today to get him something else. My first thought is Saxon. I would love to know what others think of this program.
  4. I love the way CD teaches but I don't think ds is getting it! I feel like we have wasted this year trying to do CD. I don't want to add more work on him. I am seriously thinking about getting Saxon, and see where he is and start from there.
  5. It was in my message box, should I forward it to the moderator, if so how do I do that?
  6. He got his learners at 15. He was not allowed to get his license until he was able to afford a car, maintenance and the insurance. I refuse to pay the extra $$$(yes I put 3 $'s that is how much ours went up a month!!!)
  7. Ds(8th grade) and I were talking this morning about highschool next year and how he will have to take on more since he will be in highschool. I told him he needs to get between 27 and 30 credits...Ga requires a minimum of 23. So far what I have for him is Math --4 credits Geometry, Alg II, Trig, Calculus Science--4 credits--Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Adv Bio or Chem History--4 credits-- Modern American History, Geography, World History, Civics and Government English--4 credits Computer--1 credit Spanish---2 credits P.E.--1 credit Music--1 credit Health---1/2 credit Speech--1/2 credit Debate--1/2 credit Keyboarding--1/2 credit Art--1 credit Bible--1 credit (?)Mythology---1 credit Marine Biology---1 credit Consumer Math---1 credit I am awarding the Bible credit, but I noticed with my oldest that the Tech College did not accept the credit. I am not sure what I will use to teach Art and Mythology(he is not sure he wants to do this one) Also I noticed on the GA Board of Ed site that I could award him a credit for Algebra 1 this year.
  8. Long story short--I got a perm in June, it didn't take around my face. 2wks later got another..again it didnt take around my face. 4wks later the owner gave me another one. Then it slowly starting falling out(perm) again around my face. I did not go back, I have just been dealing with it and scrunching it alot while it dried. Now it is straighter around my face, so I decided to blow dry it straight last week.Dh liked it a lot better and asked for me to keep it straight and let it grow out. I am ok with this. I decided to get it cut--at a different salon--to get it cut to get rid of the frizzy hair at the ends.I still have some that needs to be cut, but didn't want to go any shorter. The beautician told me that my hair was not in bad shape, but another cut would take care of it. She straightened my hair with a flatiron and I liked it--it didn't look frizzy at all. I went and purchased a straightener and love it, but HATE how my hair feels now...straw-like and the ends look frizzy. I have no idea what the beautician did to make my hair silky smooth. Is there some sort of product that I can get to help my hair through the process of the flatiron? Blow drying it doesn't look as nice as the flatiron. I am only washing and fixing my hair every other day. When I wash my hair I don't rinse out the conditioner.
  9. Ds asked to study Mythology. Anyone here study this? If so what books do/did you use? He would like to get credit for this if possible.
  10. I don't know why they taught it a different way than that. I am sure we will get to that eventually. Ds didn't even have one question that was to be done like it was showed on the video:angry:
  11. Ds is graphing inequalities, which he is to have shaded with the calculator. Well on the Chalkdust video they show us but we are lost when we get to the book...since it isn't the same. He is told this process 2nd,program, #7 type in the equation and then press enter. Here is the problem y>/= 2x+1 y is greater than or equal to 2x+1 Well there is no number to put in for the shading..we typed in (2x+1),10--have no idea where this number comes from and it is right. Next we do y</=-2x+4. We type in (-2x+4),10 this is not right So we go on to 6x+10y-15</=0 we change this to y</=-3/5x+3/2 so we type in (-3/5x+3/2), 10--again we are not sure where 10 comes from...still not right. Could someone explain to me what I type in after the equation, since it is not aways 10?
  12. Still doing school work...about to pack everything up and start again tomorrow, will probably work Saturday:crying::crying::crying:
  13. Ds sometimes get stuck on some of the questions in Chalkdust. Today, I had him work on ALL the problems that he was having problems with....only 14 of them. Well he still doesn't get it!!!:banghead::banghead: Has anyone found something that will go along with Chalkdust to give more problems? BTW he is stuck on finding the equation for the line that pass through the point and has the specified slope. Sorry don't know the math term for this. He will moe on to point-slope term, but if he is having problems with the other, then he doesn't need to move on.
  14. Need good books for my dd(almost 12). She LOVES to read anything and everything.
  15. Redemption Series (Baxters 1) Firstborn Series (Baxters 2) Sunrise Series (Baxters 3) make sure to read them in order
  16. I was wondering what do you feel like your children should know by heart so they can use in the future? US Presidents US States and Capitals What else do you feel like your child should know?

  18. Dd(12 in 2 months) has a NASTY attitude and blames everyone else. Her brother(s) for doing or not doing something that she starts, friends on our street for picking at her--which she starts due to her mouth or being bossy and biggest of all my getting on to her, which I end up yelling at her when I have had it--yes I know I shouldn't get on her level--I just don't know how to keep my cool with her, when she is ignoring me or talking back or smarting off. I have talked to her until I am blue in the face. She constantly writes letters wanting to talk to me in private about what has happened that day(she ends up pointing out everyones problems and she does nothing to provoke anyone) or she comes and says she is sorry about having an attitude and will try harder to control it...but she turns right around and starts doing it again. What do you do or what have you done???
  19. Wii, if your kids were older then I would say the playstation. We had the Wii and sold it. Our kids played it only for 6months and then they would only play it when company came. We now have the playstation. The good thing with about it is also a blue ray DVD player.
  20. her parents went to college. I don't know what the ratio is for male/female students though
  21. they set me up on a payment plan that I suggested. I was afraid they wouldn't since we owe them so much, but they were extremely nice about it. Thanks again!
  22. plan or why can't you pay more than that? Do you just send in what you can? We do have insurance and these fees are after what they paid.
