  1. We have 2 REALLY high(I think) doctor bills that are about to come in. I was wondering do you try to pay it off all at one time or do you make payments? There is no way we can pay this amount all at once. I never dreamed a cardiologist would cost that much for an hour visit and we say him in his office! If you make payments do you call them or do you just send in a payment?
  2. they have told me how much they make...a LOT more than we do! No she is the oldest and doesn't even want to go to school!
  3. She will be 19 in February. I don't know what she did to qualify for the grant. Ds is going to talk to her---they are on speaking terms--tomorrow. I just hate that she was even considered for this and my son wasn't...she really doesn't even want to go to school--her parents are telling her she needs to go or they won't pay for her car, car insurance or health insurance if she doesn't go. She keeps saying that she will go next semester and doesn't. Ds is working so hard to go and can't because he can not get financial ad. He says it looks like he is going to have to wait until next semester..that way he can get the paper work filled out. He is planning on going to the school Thursday to talk with them, to see if he can do anything now.
  4. Ds moved out about a month ago. He had been attending one Technical College, but found out that there is another one closer to him, so he plans on transferring. My question is this. He had been paying for school while he lived with us. We did claim him as a dependent, but will not for this year. He will turn 20 this month. He would love to get the Pell Grant or any other grant, but has been denied. He went to the school and told them his situation--moving out, paying for his own health insurance and everything else. Today he received an e-mail stating that he did not qualify for the grant, because his parents made to much money! Here is one thing that TICKS ME OFF.. his ex-girlfriend applied for the same grant and got it! Everything will be paid for, except her books. She was living at home when she applied--she lived in the same subdivision as we do, her parents make more than we do and she got the grant...Ds can not even get a grant and he is trying his best to go to school...his ex isn't even wanting to go!! What does he need to do to get this grant or any other grant?? If he has to he will get a loan, but he would love to get a grant.
  5. Has anyone went from Chalkdust to Saxon? I really don't think Ds is getting math this year. He is only on chapter 3 in Chalkdust. He struggles with the word problems. I have been taking it slow with him and if he fails a test then we go back and redo the lessons. I know this program moves fast, but I am wondering now if it is moving to fast. I have used Saxon in the past, but like how Chalkdust teaches. Any suggestions?
  6. Can someone explain Relative, demonstrative, and indefinite pronouns to me. Ds and I are having a tough time getting these.
  7. I am looking for an online site that sells good--very reasonable priced clothing. Ds and DD(size 0/0) need jeans and long sleeve shirts. Dd would love some boots
  8. Ds is using Sonlight American History 120 this year and he would like to read a bit more American History books. Is there a list somewhere that we can go by?
  9. Dd wants to keep track of the books she has read. I have seen talk about the site on here. Would anyone know of the site?
  10. I have been told it depends on the school district. My kids have never been able to participate in PS sports. PS here don't want to have anything to do with homeschoolers. I would love to know what county actually allows homeschoolers on their sports team! By the way, I voted yes. We pay enough in taxes that we should be able to utilize what ever the school system offers.
  11. Dd is suppose to read the book called Daddy Longlegs but the ones that I am finding are about 35 pages long. The one she is to read is 185. I have looked on Sonlight's website and it is not listed. Does anyone know the author of this book?
  12. Dd is in 6th grade She is a good speller and loves big words. She is an avid reader. Would you continue with spelling and vocabulary?
  13. Dd loves to read, but I don't like her just checking out books that I don't know anything about. Is there a site that list good books for teens? btw: I would love some Christian teen love story books...I don't want her reading smut...like in adult romance novels.
  14. Looking for a GOOD parenting advice book for raising a girl. Dd is 12 She is SSSSOOOOOO different than her brother! Anyone have a good book to read? I just finished 'How to Talk So Teens Will Listen & Listen So Teens Will Talk'
  15. My ds and dd want to do debate. The ones around us are VERY expensive. I was considering starting one for my kids, but had some questions. Did you have any prior experience in teaching debate? What curriculum did/are you using? What age group did you allow to participate? Other than the books that the kids will ned did/are you charging for this class? Any other information would be greatly appreciated
  16. I would like some sort of worksheets, workbooks, or software that help re-enforce Algebra and 7th grade math just for review over the topics that they are covering. It's not that my kids are not getting their work, it's just when they get to the test they are forgetting how to do some of the problems..due to not enough review. I would prefer to use a different publisher. Ds is using Chalkdust Alg 1 and Dd is using R&S
  17. Dd had blood testing 2wks ago which said she had something viral. She is not coughing, achy, or feverish any longer, but she still throws up every once in a while. She is going back on Tuesday to have her blood tested again to see if she is still viral. Any idea if this is still the flu or what every the viral thing was/is???
  18. Dd is having trouble with division. It is not that she doesn't get it, it is that she makes careless mistakes. She then gets aggravated and continues making careless mistakes. Would you suggest stopping everything, and work on division problems for a week or so? If so what would you suggest using? She is working in R&S 7.
  19. We are confused on "substantives" we understand that they are a noun or a pronoun, but we don't understand how to find the phrase or clause. Ex. Eating food from the king's table would have brought defilement. The result of the test was that these four faithful Jews were the healthiest of all. Figuring out today's math problems required patience and hard work. The substantive clauses or phrases are underlined. How do you find the phrase or clause? **Please explain in simple terms. We have the definition that a substantive is any word or word group that names something.
  20. writing background? What curriculum would you choose or would you opt for outside help?
