  2. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug::grouphug: I am truly sorry for your loss. I will pray for you and your family. Erin
  3. I am new to the area and am wondering if there are any used curriculum sales in or around the DFW area. Any that maybe happen once a year. We are south of Dallas near De Soto, but I would drive pretty far. I looovvvee used curriculum sales. Back in CA there was an awesome one that happened every summer. I will no longer be attending that one. I am devastated. :glare: Please let me know. :bigear: Thanks a bunch. Erin
  4. We are near Mineola. I thought umbrella schools were everywhere. My sister uses one and she is in Tennessee.
  5. I am not sure what to do. We have recently moved to East Texas and need to find a place that does independent study, or maybe like an umbrella school. I am not exactly sure what we are needing. Heres the short story. We have brought my husbands 15 yr old sister here to live with us. She has always gone to public school. She thinks she wants to continue on with public school next yr (junior). For now I am looking for some type of independent study program or some type of umbrella school that will handle her transcripts. I am not sure how to go about this. The local school here said that they did not know what independent study was. Her old school in CA will not release her transcripts to her mother. They say they need to fax them to the new school.??? I do not have a new school yet. I have been giving her work here so at least she is doing something. Does anybody know about any umbrella schools here or anything to that nature. How do we get her transcripts?? Please help as I am totally lost on what to do. We are about 2 hrs east of Dallas if that helps. Erin Mom to 6 + 1 more
  6. I ordered quite a few courses from them that were supposed to be here last Saturday. Fed Ex said that they are lost. I am so upset. I do hope that they find them. I am not sure what to do in this case. Should I call TTC? It was a lot of money and I am worried. Erin
  7. I just wanted to second the use of D Mannose. Works every time!! It is wonderful stuff. I have used it on myself and 3 of my children. Never fails. Erin
  8. We are moving to Texas the end of January. We will be in east Texas (Tyler area) for the first few months and then we will be in the Dallas area. Can anyone suggest a good area to live near the Dallas area. My husband will work in Dallas. I know it is near Arlington. We will need to find a house to rent when we get there. Any help on the areas surrounding would be great!!! Erin Mom to 6
  9. Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and prayers. I am doing great so far. They are going to let me go home today. No more blood clots in my legs and my heart looks great. I will be on blood thinners for 6 months. God is great!!!! I will have to take it easy for a while but that will be fine. My mother flew in from Texas so she will be here for a few weeks to help out. What a whirlwind I have been on. I can not believe that the hospital stay is so short for something so serious. I came in Thursday afternoon to the ER and I get to head home today. My baby has been doing great at taking a bottle. I think that not breastfeeding has been the hardest thing in all of this. It has been very hard being away from my kids but I will be home soon. They do not know so we are surprising them. Once again I want to thank everyone for all of their prayers. You are all so kind!! Erin
  10. I don't post on here a lot, but I lurk daily. Well more like a few times daily. Please pray for me. I have found out that I have several blood clots in my left lung. (pulmonary embolism) I am 2 weeks postpartum with our sixth child. I am in the hospital now and am on blood thinners. I am so nervous. I do not have any friends or a support network. I had to stop breastfeeding last night and give the baby a bottle. I don't know what to expect, I am just very scared. I really need all of the prayers that I can get. Thanks so much! Erin **Update in post on page 4**
  11. I would love it if you would share those recipes with me. Those both sound delicious. I love the idea of the pitas for mini pizzas. Thanks a bunch!
  12. Well I do bake a lot of our cookies, cakes, and muffins but... They are all unhealthy. I also bake homemade bread a few times a week to have with dinner. But honestly, I find it impossible to use this bread for sandwiches. We have mostly sandwiches for lunch with lunchmeat. That is another thing I am trying to change. I should also say that the other 2 weeks of the month I have about $750 to spend on groceries so I try to stock up then when I have more to spend. Also, our grocery money does not include any toiletries or cleaning products. I was thinking of dinners along the lines of a meat, veggie and then potato, pasta or rice.
  13. We are trying to eat healthier foods and I am wondering how much more this will cost us. I am going to be going for organic for whatever I can find. So the question is?? Do you think I can feed a family of 7 for all meals and snacks for about $400 every 2 weeks??? Is this possible? I was thinking about driving to our nearest Whole Foods. It is about an hour and a half away. Would it be worth it?? I am open to any and all suggestions. This is going to be pretty new for us but I would like to take on the challenge. If you have a list of staples that are a great starting point, that would be great. Thanks, Erin
  14. My son does the reading, questions and experiments on Mon and Tues and then does his lapbook on wed, thurs, and fri. We are following a 2 day a week schedule that I found on the yahoo group. We follow the schedule for Mon and Tues and then do the lapbook the other days. My son loves it.
  15. I am just curious as to whether anyone will be limiting their activities? I wonder if I am being paranoid?? I am considering stopping our activities this fall. My 3 oldest do kickboxing and juijitsu a few times a week. There are a ton of kids and adults that go there so I am worried about it. The owners tell everyone that if they have a cut on their foot to not even come to class because there are so many germs. Everyone is wrestling and sweating on the mats. Just wanted to know what others are going to do. I am pregnant and I have 5 children that I am worried about. I tell you it is really stressing me out. Am I being to paranoid?? Erin After rereading my post...duh... their and not there
  16. Last January my son started acting very lethargic. He is 12. He was sleeping 12 hours at night pluse a few naps during the day. He no longer wanted to go outside and participate in anything. He was not eating like he used to. He lost weight. He was complaining of being so sore all the time, especially in the thighs and down his legs. If we tried to make him participate in anything physical, he could hardly move the next day. We took him to 3 different doctors and had him on 3 or 4 different antibiotics. They tested him for mono, Lyme, arthritis and ran lots of other tests and nothing came up. He is much better now but still not at 100%. He still does not have the energy he once had. His joints still bother him. But... he is much better than he was. Our doctor said that there are a lot of viruses that act like mono that there are not any tests for so she said that that was the likely cause. I will say it was horrible to feel like your vibrant child is just withering down to nothing. I feel like he has a lower immune system now because of this. He seems to catch any colds that are out there and it is much worse that anyone else in the family. So theres our story. Sorry for the novel, but I feel like I've been there and it is so much better now. Hope you find out some answers!! Erin
  17. How did you go about hooking the laptop up to the tv? We can not figure out how to do it. Thanks, Erin
  18. We use homeschool tracker, the free version. The kids all have their daily checklists and I have a master one. I love this program. Erin
  19. Would you say that it would confuse the student when trying to grasp chronological order?
  20. I am looking for some history recommendations for my upcoming 6th and 8th graders that they could do pretty independent. They don't have to be together but I would like for them to be independent. I read a lot of old threads about HO but I would like something that goes in chronological order. We are studying middle ages this year. Thanks, Erin Mom to 5 with another on the way!!
