  1. If there is a craigslist there then I would look there. We have used it a few times to book vacation homes and it has been great.
  2. My son, who is almost 13, has a lot of problems falling asleep. He has since he was very small. I can get him up early (8:00 is early for him) when he has stayed up nearly all night and he will still have trouble falling asleep that night. He can lay in bed for hours and not fall asleep. I can put him to bed at 10:00 and check on him at 3:00 and he will still be laying there, wide awake. He gets so frustrated because he would like to sleep, he just can't. This has always thrown off our school schedule because I let him sleep in. My husband doesn't like the fact that I let him sleep in but he does need sleep. Glad to see that I am not the only one who lets their child sleep in. Erin
  3. Our plans look a lot alike. WWE 1 FLL 1/2 SOTW 1 w/act guide ETC 5,6,7,8 Spelling workout A Apologia Zoology II Zaner-Bloser handwriting Song school latin MUS Alpha Piano lessons kickboxing juijitsu and starting in Jan. weekly art lessons (art teacher won't take them until 7) We try to fit in nature study and experiments when we can. Oh and lots of reading. He reads every day. I am excited to see what others are doing. Erin
  4. After a suggestion from one of the ladies on here I decided to look at Henle Latin. It looks hard, very hard. The samples are not very good. Is there another program out there that maybe has dvd's or even a cd that tells us the correct pronunciation. We really like LC1 with the dvd's, it makes it effortless. Maybe its a little too easy. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Erin
  5. All of your suggestions are great!! Thanks. What would you suggest for history then for middle ages for 8th grade. I did buy A chronological history of music and its composers by Lynn Ericson (Schola Press). I was going to use that for music. I will look at Queen's stuff today. We already did Fallacy Detective. Please keep the suggestions coming. I know my son is much more capable. :001_smile:
  6. Here is my soon to be 8th graders schedule. I tend to change things often so I am hoping I have found some things that are to stay. I do feel like he is capable of doing things beyond what I give him. Things are quite effortless for him. Please let me know what you think could be beefed up, so to speak. Here it is... MUS Algebra (already doing online alg course but am making him do MUS so it is concrete) LC1 We have already started this, having done prima latina last yr. (I know, I know he is to old for that but as a mom who was terrified to begin, if was a safe choice for me) We will also try to complete LC2 by the end of this yr. Logic - thinking toolbox Apologia Gen science. My fault he is behind, we started doing this in the beginning of last yr but it was me who dropped it. Starting this wk so hoping to finish by Feb so we can catch up Lightning Lit 8 IEW JAG (already have this but want to buy AG) AAS (want to concrete his spelling) Vocabulary from classical roots History SOTW II. Going to try to assign additional reading and writing Geography A trail guide to world geography and A childs geography: explore the holy land (loved the first book so much having him do the second also) Explorers bible study daily devotion and finally reading Oh yeah and weekly private art lessons, piano, kickboxing and juijitsu. Let me have it ladies!! I am holding him back :001_huh: Thanks, Erin
  7. We have 3 kids in school starting 8th, 6th and 1st. Its probably almost $1500. If we counted outside lessons it would be way more!! Erin
  8. I mark in mine if we are using them. If I love the curriculum it has marks all over, especially if it will be used for my other children. I figure the highlights and post its will save me time in the future. You should see my new TWTM. Doesnt look so new anymore.:tongue_smilie: Erin
  9. I am trying to find a bible study for my soon to be 8th grader. I would like to find something that he can do independently and that would take only about 15-20 minutes a day. Maybe reading and study questions from a teen bible. Does this exist?? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Erin
  10. We are only about an hour away so I might see if my husband wants to go, with me and the kids of course. We have been there before but never to dig. It will be interesting to see if there are any others that are not too far from there. Thanks for the info, Erin
  11. Where can I order this? After all of the positive remarks, I think that I need to have this. Thanks, Erin
  12. As of now I am 18 weeks along. Due on Oct. 20th. That date feels like eternity!! I can say that I always get out of bed, but.... I am only migrating to the couch!!:tongue_smilie: It is not twins, I have already had 2 ultrasounds. I wish I could put the blame on that. How do I teach and take care of 5 kids plus clean and cook!! It really is not happening all that much. If I do a lot one day, then I am down and out for the next 2 days. It is really hard. I am so glad to see that I am not alone. Well not glad to see that others are also suffering, but glad to see that maybe I am still normal. Just miserably normal. Thanks, Erin
  13. So here I am pregnant with my sixth child and having a very rough pregnancy. I have had 5 other pregnancies that went relatively smooth. This one is giving me a hard time. I can hardly pull myself off of the couch. Has anyone else had easy/normal pregnancies and then have one that was super hard?? I need to know that I am not alone. I feel like such a lazy and horrible wife and mother. Please respond if you have had a similar experience. I am having a very hard time with this. Thanks, Erin
  14. Best pasta salad ever!!! 1 pkg wacky colored noodles 1 can crushed olives 1 red onion chopped small 1 bellpepper chopped small 1lb colby cheese cubed small salame cut into small pieces (adjust according to taste) We use half of a large pkg but I always double the recipe 1 bottle Berenstein's Italian Cheese dressing Mix all and chill. Always better the next day. For years this has always been a crowd favorite Erin
  15. So for lunch today we had Foster Farms chicken nuggets and french fries. We were all eating and my 2 year old daughter suddenly started choking. So of course she ended up being ok, but she choked on a bone that was inside of the chicken nugget. It was about an inch long. My husband thinks I should call them and complain. What would you do??? Thanks, Erin
  16. Is there a program out there that includes all of this in one. We currently use a seperate spelling, vocabulary, grammar and writing program. Is there anywhere I can cut corners, so to say, by combining things with another program. This would be for a 7th grader and 5th grader. We seem to not have enough time in the day to get everything done. Thanks, Erin
  17. I am thinking we might give it a try. We have 5bdrms and 3 baths in 3100sq ft now. A small backyard and yes the kids can play out front but there are so many cars in the neighborhood so they have to stay in the driveway or the yard, which is small. The other house is on almost an acre, there is a lg wood storage building that could be used for a clubhouse. No close neighbors (we love that). It has 3bdrm and 2 bath in about 1800sq ft. It also has a huge family room that is like 600sq ft. The rooms are small but doable, I think. We have 5 kids ages 12B, 10B, 5B, 2G and 1G. We were thinking that the 2 older could share and the 3 younger. (My 5 yr old doesn't care because he still sleeps in my room :D) It is just a rental house so I guess if we are not happy we can move eventually. Thanks for all of your responses. I really long for that cozy feeling we used to have in a small house. Erin
  18. I was just wondering... how big is your house and how many children do you have? We are contemplating moving into a smaller house. Five bedrooms down to three bedrooms, with 5 children. Are we crazy??? What do you think?? Erin
  19. We have been using junior analytical grammar and are over half way through it. I see the need for more practice before we can move on. Frankly, it is getting confusing for me too. Is there a program out there that includes punctuation and maybe spelling also. Thanks, Erin
  20. Does anybody have any suggestions... I'm wide open=)
  21. I am having the hardest time finding a science program that I will actually implement. I have 3 kids doing science. They are doing 2 seperate programs. My 7 grade ds is doing Apologia Gen science and it is too boring for him. My 5th ds and K ds are doing Considering God's Creation. We already tried a science program from SCM. I just have a hard time getting things together for the programs. I forget to buy the things needed for the exp. I don't like the messes. When we do experiments they get sidetracked (or creative) and they want to try other things or want to change the exp up to find out what else will happen. I know this is good for them but it reaks havoc on our schedule. I also have a 1 and 2 yr old running around so things can get crazy. Please help me find programs for my 7, 5 and Ker. I need something easy for me, scheduled for us all. And I don't know what else... Science just stresses me out!! Sorry this is so long. Please Help!! Erin Erin
  22. We started MUS Pre Alg last week and I am wondering how long it generally takes to finish this. If you used this please let me know how long it lasted. THanks, Erin
  23. Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. I think I may put some to use. Thanks again, Erin
  24. Thanks for all your suggestions. I just looked at rainbow science and I did like it. I am hesitant to spend that much money and then have him not like it. I just bought the apologia gen science (used), the exp kit and the schedule. I just hate to throw more money away. I may just have him look at some of the curriculum choices on the web and let him choose. And then make him stick to it. Thanks again ladies, Erin
