  1. The difference between theory and practice is smaller in theory than it is in practice.

  3. My kids are trying to figure out if all three of them will ever have ages that are prime numbers in the same year.

It already happened for my kids, but won't ever again. They were too young to know it, and indeed I never thought of it till right now!

  4. My grown-up son is home from Japan for a few weeks. We had coffee together this morning then he did the dishes. :D

  5. I think I had a weird day. I've already explained medical marijuana and dunce caps. It's not even lunchtime yet.

My eldest had "douche" as a spelling word yesterday. We went through the full historical range of meanings because I didn't want to her misunderstand if she came across it in an older work. Much like the use of "ejaculate" in late 19th Century kids lit. :P

I got to explain spit balls. :)

  6. My kids are having a brain freeze contest - I think I win because I'm not playing.

  7. Save me from kids who must be perfect. My dd12 knows about barbarian "invasions" but not about barbarian "migrations". It is stopping her from answering a short essay question.

Is not the pounce the proclamation of the tiger of his very being?

  9. Yes dear, the grammar book is supposed to start with Subjects and Predicates again.

  10. I probably shouldn't eat frosting with a spoon. My kids are sure that I'll make myself sick, again.

  11. My youngest just asked me if she could read The Wind in the Willows next. I think I will quit worrying about her reading now.

  12. Teaching my dd to use a skill saw isn't as scary as I thought it would be.

  13. I was sitting on the couch with dd8 in my lap watching her knit while dd12 practiced a piece from Carmen on her cello. About 2 seconds after I noticed my moment was idyllic, older dd got frustrated and younger dd dropped a stitch and started to complain. Got to enjoy moments of peace while they last.

I guess that's why they call them "moments"! :P

  14. This morning at 1am my son graduated from college in Tokyo! We watched online and are celebrating with him next week in Rome.

  15. This is my third day without coffee. The headache is mostly gone, but when will I feel motivated or lively again? I need a nap and a cup of coffee.

Day 4 - and I'm still sleepy, and I'm craving sugar. I keep thinking a nice cup of coffee would make everything better.

Day 5 - I'm obsessively thinking of coffee. Just a little cup. I have a meeting soon then I'm going for a walk. I did wake up faster and easier this morning than usual. Maybe I am getting better.

  16. The good news is that I finally finished the chocolate, peanut butter cupcakes dd made for Mother's Day. That is also the bad news.

  17. Oh good - I get to find a leg! -Math is fun, and my kids are weird.

  19. At 11pm last night, I was sitting in my bed explaining gerunds to my 12yo dd. I'm really tempted to wake her up early to discuss grammar.
