  1. I just received my shiny new copy of Joy Hakim's Story of Science (Aristotle) yesterday and after reading the first few chapters I have to say I Love It! I will be having my 12 year old 7th grader read it to go along with our ancients history study this year. What I'm wondering now is if I should have also ordered the student and teacher texts/workbooks to go along with it. Are the activities and assignments as good as the material in the book, or are they pretty standard workbook fare? We are not so much a workbooky sort of family, so I guess I am hoping for something more unique in these books. If you have purchased and used them could you give me your impression of how they measure up? I have looked at the samples available, but it is difficult sometimes to know what kind of variety is in a book from just a few examples. For those of you just using the main reading text, have you done anything else interesting to support the study other than narration and discussion? Thanks for the input! Michelle
  2. A girlfriend of mine just got her history DVD yesterday. I'm still watching for mine. We're both in Wisconsin. Same town.

  4. Just thought I'd update and let everyone know that this offer still works. Successfully ordered mine today!
  5. My ds6 has also enjoyed reading this series. He read the first couple books at age five and will be continuing with the series this school year.
  6. We're just getting started with our school year and look forward to participating on Fridays. Great motivating idea!
  7. We sent ours to New Hampshire on the 19th of July but haven't heard anything yet. It has been 2 weeks so the kids are starting to wonder. We received one here on the 21st of July from Kentucky and sent it on to the next family by the 24th. That has been the only one so far.
  8. There were some scanned samples of K12 Human Odyssey in this thread. One post has TOC and another shows a 2 page spread about Sargon. HTH Michelle
  9. I'm not normally a Berenstain Bears fan (understatement), but the Berenstain Bears Big Book of Science and Nature came highly recommended from friends, and I believe Sonlight uses it as well. My 5 year old absolutely loved it, and had me read through it with him at least three times this past year. It would make a nice supplement. I bought ours used, on these boards I think. If you want more of a Charlotte Mason approach, with lovely stories about nature, I would recommend Among the Meadow People, Among the Forest People et al. We have enjoyed them very much.
  10. Jen- Laura Berquist (Mother of Divine Grace school curriculum) uses this Bible in her K curriculum, and Andrew Campbell (Latin Centered Curriculum) recommends the Memoria Press program that uses it and I believe he is Catholic . I think it would be just fine. Someone correct me if I'm wrong (it wouldn't be the first time!) Michelle
  11. Ginger, I am currently trying to figure out which direction I want to go for history next year as well. I have been considering using the SCM guides (Egypt, Greece, Rome) in a one year study. I know there are some posts from gals who have done this over on the SCM forums. Here is one link to get you started. Maybe this would help you in your decision. Happy planning! Michelle
