  1. I did post over there but have not received more detailed input yet...thanks for taking the time to respond;)
  2. I am currently using CLE grammar for my 3rd and two 4th graders...it is okay but I am thinking of switching to Winston Grammar as much of the LA curriculum I do not use (I have a separate handwriting curriculum, we use IEW so we do not do the writing component) My 6th grader is currently using Step-by step grammar program and while I liked it at first, the sentence diagramming is becoming very complicated and cumbersome. I am trying to figure out if Winston Grammar would be sufficient for all 4 of my younger kids(next yr they will be in grades, 4,5,7)...I know they would still need practice with editing stuff (punctuation, abbreviations etc) Anyone using Winston grammar? Do you supplement for punctuation etc. I'd love some feedback... Thanks!
  3. Thanks so much for your response...my kids have done punctuation and those kind of rules etc but they have definitely not mastered it yet...any recommendations for supplemental work in this? Maybe I need to revisit dailygrams again?? Would love more feedback...If I buy WG it will save$ as lightunits for 3 kiddos can add up...it will also save time as I need to individually review CLE LA with the 3 youngest...I so want to make this work, can you tell;)

  5. I am considering switching from CLE grammar for my two 4th and 3rd grade students...if I make the switch, what would you use for practice of punctuation, capitalization etc...also once your older student finishes the advance, what would you recommend? We are using Step By Step Grammar for her but it is becoming quite intricate and cumbersome with all the complex diagramming...I'm wondering if it is really that necessary! Any thoughts?
  6. Thanks so much for the info...so i need to make a decision fast if i want the old IG...wonder how hard they are to find used?!
  7. Thanks for your response...what is the main issue in a nutshell?
  8. After 9 years of using TOG I'm finally reconsidering SL again. I have been so excited thinking back to my SL days with my oldest 2 and decided that I would use the core D&E combined with our younger crew. I am coming into this discussion late...please fill me in-is there a reason I would NOT want to do this level with kids ages 12,11,10,9? I planned just to buy the IG and get the books separately since I own many of them from my TOG days and can get them cheaper elsewhere. Should I not get the updated IG? Thanks for any direction!! Blessings~
  9. Congrats!! As a fellow adoptive momma of 2, I understand the sentiment and know too that it is not a pie in the sky journey but one I would not trade for the world...Enjoy this special time as a family;)
  10. That's exactly what we do...if it's thrown away, at least we are modeling compassion to our dc..actually, our dd who was adopted internationally asked us to do this and it brings some measure of comfort to her to know we are doing something to help -She remembers what it is like to be hungry :(...
  11. Congratualtions...it took my hubby several times to pass all the parts, way to go!!!
  12. Good for you Tracy! That's how I began my running journey a few years ago...just ran my 1st half marathon in November... watch out, running can be addicting;) There is a WTM runner's gp....join us :D http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/group.php?groupid=109
  13. I just read the story written by this sweet girl's mom...how utterly sickening that she would be denied a transplant simply because she is mentally impaired...Shame on CHOP, an institution dedicated to the care and treatment of children....thanks for sharing this so that we can sign this petition.
  14. We were there in Mid June last year...the Lord blessed us with many animal sightings but it was frigid cold and we camped-there is no electric hookup at their campsites...our campsite was surrounded in snow, our picnic table was under mounds of snow and we wore layers and layers of clothes to bed in the pop up... Because of the weather, we actually cut bait and moved to West yellowstone where we could have electric hookup and thaw out:) 5 minutes after pulling into the front gate we saw a grizzly bear! He was feet away from our car and crazy people were out of their cars taking pictures....we took plenty of pictures from the safety of our van! It was an amazing visit...I'd love to go back some time. We also loved Jackson Hole and the Tetons...stunningly beautiful! Just be prepared and bring LOTS of layers...we were in full winter mode...thermals,hats,gloves,heavy coats etc. If you plan to stay within the actual park you will need to make reservations soon...it fills up quickly!! It will be a trip you and your kids will never forget.
  15. Super static cling...that is hysterical!!! Thanks for that one:lol: I'll see what he thinks:)
  16. Last year you all came to the rescue and helped me pull something together. Our annual youth event is looming and this year and the theme is superhero or villains or we can make up our own 'superhero'...some are doing super couponer, super ballerina...stuff like that. I recently ran a half marathon and thought I could wear my shirt and medal and make a makeshift cape...but then it seems boastful/ostentatious... most female superheroes are very immodest...spandex etc... any ideas? There are 5 of us needing costumes but I'm letting my older 2 figure it out themselves;) My 11 yo dd, hubby and I are stumped...if I could come up with a theme for all 3 of us that would be great but my google searches have come up empty. Any brilliant ideas??? Thanks!!!
  17. We have not tried totally eliminating dairy...we do alot of cheese here...and I have bought her a lactose free cheese for her stuff but does not seem to be the answer right now:( Definitively need to do something! Thanks for your response~
  18. Would an allergist just do the skin tests? Would that be sufficient or does it need to be bloodwork?
  19. She has had GI issues for several months now but we thought it was a lactose issue and tried Lactaid products with minimal changes. Tonight we went to Cicis for dinner (pasta,pizza---lots of gluten) and at around 8:30 she began complaining of cramping/pain in her abdominal region. She also has had issues with gas for several months. I have a niece and 2 nephews, a SIL and BIL on my husband's side who are all Gluten intolerant. I just read up on Celiac dz, and it said not to try changing the diet until after she has been tested...seriously, I think she may not tolerate the testing well and I'm wondering do I really need to get all the bloodwork, endoscopy etc if I might be able to see if diet impacts her? What would you do? We have been blessed with 6 kiddos and I do not have a clue regarding what foods she can even eat. Any easy suggestions on how to give this a try?? I can contact my SIL but thought I'd start here 1st since I can't get in touch with her tonight. Thanks!!
  20. Curious too...have a student in CLE 6 now...we have used Videotext Algebra and Geometry as well as Teaching Textbooks for our older boys but they did not transition from CLE so I am very curious about what others have used with success.
