Sadly, it wasn't first count; hunting kids' book shelves was required. At least we found them ...

  3. Wordless We went to the fair yesterday. Wordy: The L'Engle post got me reading The Irrational Season, so I have a quote or two: The Incredible, Incomprehensible Sweep
  4. It gives some description of one of the pictures without using the word that starts with the letter and tells the student to complete the drawing or underline or circle ...really whatever you want.

  7. I love the Austin family books, too. I want to be Mrs. Austin. A Ring of Endless Light has been a favorite for years. Cautions on the books Many Waters and An Acceptable Time. ETA oh yes ...House Like a Lotus. Whether tame or not, I would want to know about it ahead of time. Her Crosswick Journals are not to be missed; memoirs ... Not necessarily for teens. Nothing wrong, they just probably wont get it. I read Summer of the Great Grandmother as a teen and liked the writing ...I read it last year at almost 40 and understood the book. I love L'Engle.
  8. Um. I open the bag of frozen ravioli, put it in a sprayed casserole dish, pour a jar of spaghetti sauce over it, stir, cover with pizza cheese and the lid and bake at 400* for 30 mins or so. Slice zucchini (I had 6 1" diameter, 8" long zukes. It wasnt quite enough for the 5 of us) into thin rounds. Toss with olive oil, salt, and pepper then spread it on a sheet pan and cook on the other rack in the oven. They're done when they're brown. You can flip partway through to brown both sides but I dont usually bother. Serve with parmesean. Red pepper flake is yummy too.
  9. We like Kayray as a reader on Librivox. Her quality is excellent.
  10. Thanks, everyone, there's a lot of great ideas here ... we've read many of your suggestions and listened to some. My husband isn't up for Jim Weiss this trip, we've listened to tons of his CDs and listened to his Men of Iron on our last trip (I forgot that one). I think we're going to try out Kayray's The Swiss Family Robinson from librivox for the next trip.
  11. Baked ravioli and roasted zucchini coins. It was yummy :)

  14. We have a long car trip (12 hours of driving one way) coming up and enjoy listening to audio books during trips. We've enjoyed The Hobbit, Narnia, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Hotel for Dogs, Because of Winn-Dixie, Mouse and the Motorcycle, and Ralph S Mouse, and some of us have enjoyed Cat of Bubastes and Black Beauty. They've listened to lots of Librivox books, I can't even name them all. Any suggestions? My kiddos are 6, 7, and almost-9. They tend to be easily scared. I'm not opposed to purchasing something really good and classic but Librivox is good too.
  15. I love MEP and so do my kids. I have learned so much math teaching it. Kitchen Table Math would be a wonderful tool for you too.
  16. Wow. I'm super impressed, you didn't tell me you read it... I have it on my shelf but am intimidated ...
  17. Wordy: A Matter of Training some words from Dorothy Sayers' book Have His Carcase. Wordless - I accidentally have two. My son finished Level 2 in piano this week and I posted it, but later we walked over to see the trucks tearing up the street in some neighborhood excitement.
  18. Thanks! I was trying a different format. I appreciate the encouragment.
  19. Why, yes, I am planning next week and writing my weekly report while watching College Football late on Saturday night. Soccer started today ... Now to finish the planning ....
