  1. Wordless: My SIL took M-girl to the Columbus Crew (soccer) game (match) Wordy: Brilliant Bursts
  2. I started Have His Carcase by Sayers which I'm already enjoying :)
  3. My oldest loved Rylant's Cobble Street Cousins. My son loved Nate the Great and moved to Encyclopedia Brown. My youngest hasnt devoured a series yet but reads a lot. I'm thinking Mercy Watson will be a hit.
  4. Christopher Perrin's Introduction to Classical Ed is a free pdf on the CAP site. It is one of my very favorites.
  5. We like the Poetry for Young People series. We enjoyed A Child's Book of Poems. Eric Carle's Dragons, Dragons and Animals, Animals books were hits here.
  6. Rejoice with me ... I FINISHED Pilgrim at Tinker Creek!!!!! Finally! It only took 5 weeks. And I complained a lot. Now you can stop reading me complain :) Thanks for bearing with me.
  7. Wordless: Focus Wordy: Barbarism at Last
  8. It's designed to be copied. I have three kids, so I wanted to make copies nyway. I try to purchase reproducible books because of that.
  9. We expect our wiggly 6 year old to sit up and look mostly forward. Often, she is on my husband's lap for much of the sermon. He tries to help her with points (counting on fingers, restating in whispers) I take notes and try to print so children can see them. We expect that after church on our drive they will be able to tell us one idea from the sermon and we can talk about it. We remind them before church of our expectations and the reasons. I'm not sure what you mean by sermon beginning at bedtime? Our pastors also preach an expository and not topical manner. Even our evening service (we worship morning and evening) has the sermon starting by 6:30 or so.
  10. Geography Songs are a hit here. Even my then 3 year old could sing the Continents and Oceans. ETA I'm not big into workbooks but the Evan Moor Befinning Geography (K-2) book is outstanding.
  11. Four volumes? I only see two on her site. I *need* two more ... Maybe one of them will have our current hymn: Now Unto Jehovah, Ye Sons of the Mighty. That's hard to sing without some help ...
  12. I love Susan Beisner's (now Powell) 'Listen While We Sing' CDs. http://www.parnassum.net/listenwhilewesing.php They're just accompanimnet, which is what I was looking for. That way I could choose hymns we like and that we sing in worship. ETA we also use the Hymns for a Kids Heart books. Sad to hear they're out of print. There are some adult oriented ones too ... One title is When Morning Gilds the Skies.
  13. Happy Birthday! Did you know you share it with Borges? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Luis_Borges I have only ever peripherally heard of him, then discussion this week here. As a family we're reading The Christian Almanac most nights and there he was! Ah, serendipity ... :) Hope it was a great day!
  14. Posted. We had kind of a rough week ... http://ladydusk.blogspot.com/2013/08/weekly-report-for-august-19-23-2013.html?m=1
  15. Sorry, I really don't think you can use John Paul McCartney ... unless you add Ringo and George [ducking] I think I prefer the spelling of Juliette, although mumto2 is right that she'll be forever spelling it for people. I agree with the others that JoJean doesn't work. Would Joanna work instead? Still part of your grandmother's name but then the Anna would be there too ...
  16. Signed the kids up for once a month art class and put once a month ice skating on the schedule. Why do I suddenly feel too busy?

  17. I'm stalling, stalling whilst reading Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. I am starting to get stubborn about it, though. I've read 30, which is really very good for me by this point in the year. Plus, I've got some read alouds going that will "count" ... Man of the Family by Moody (so good) and Peril and Peace which is church history. And we have a vacation coming up! Woo-hoo! My only challenge was "no re-reads." I've done really well other than two of the Sally Wright books I read in January and half of The Hidden Art of Homemaking by Edith Schaeffer (maybe I should finish that LOL). I don't really count those because I didn't remember *anything* about them after reading them 10 years or so ago. Actually, I've done better than I expected on the no re-reads challenge ... I love re-reading old friends!
  18. Better yet, what should I make for dinner? Something light & easy ... I have to go to the store one way or the other ... Happy Day! Hubby isn't hungry ... breakfast it is! :)
  19. Wordless: Columbus Clippers Ring Your Bell Wordy: A Thought Branches and Leafs
  20. We're in the midst of Man of the Family, next book in the Little Britches books. Soooo good.
