  1. I want to use them, really I do, but what do I do with all those bags that it would take for my overflowing cart of groceries for a family of 8 *while* I'm shopping? LOL
  2. The reason I'm not crazy about the prhase is that "worship" does not equal MUSIC. Music and singing can BE worship, but they are not the be all end all of what I know worship to be, which is anything believers do collectively or individually to show reverence and devotion to God. Being still and knowing He is God with all my heart is worship, too--and there better not be a team that wants to assist me in being still. LOL!! So, the fact that some people have been put in charge of "worship" just bugs me. But I don't get too upset about it because it's a goofy church culture thing that just won't go away. LOL It's a music team or the music ministry in my mind and that's that. Doesn't take away from the fact that people are using their gifts and talents for the Lord and that's important, too.
  3. I just love to browse, but I also can't tell you how many times a conversation with a stranger browsing next to me has helped me approve or discard a curriculum possibility! The vendors/publishers/authors are a big help, too, and I love the atmosphere enough and how it encourages me to ramp up for the next school year that I fork over the money to go to a convention whenever I can. Plus, I don't have to pay shipping. :D
  4. Thank you SO much for this link! I help our church's Angel Food ministry and we are always trying to come up with low-cost recipes for those who use it!
  5. Wellll, I find that I'm better at appreciating and basking in the creativity of others rather than being so creative myself. LOL I do a little scrapbooking and I am a webmaster which sometimes provides some creativity. I would love to have the time and tools to build furniture and decorate my home. lol But mainly I just love the arts: theatre, literature, fine art and music!
  6. Thanks, Kelli. :) Do they work on both TT and Aleks every day or trade off?
  7. Look at all these flour options! http://www.foodsubs.com/Flournw.html I saw a recipe on the show The Biggest Loser which used Chick Pea flour and I am intrigued. You can use it alone in many dishes, but for most baking I think you need to add in some wheat flour. There are lots of healthy AND good-tasting options out there. :) We are still learning!
  8. I'm considering using some of Singapore's supplements or even the program for higher grades that correspond (we use already Primary Math until the child can move to TT7)...or something else just to give more practice and have another source for the teaching of all these concepts. I find that my ds sometimes just needs "another take" on math concepts and so I plan to supplement TT next year. But with what? Any experience you can share would be appreciated. :) Thank you!
  9. Oh my goodness, that happened here today! LOL My dd was in the downstairs bathroom drying her hair and we hear her screaming for help and "Spider!!!" We've had a house fire and when we all heard "Fire" we jumped into action! I thought the hair dryer had sparked or something. Ridiculous. LOL!
  10. I guess my 13yo dd and 14yo ds could probably do an adult multi but my ds canNOT swallow a pill yet. lol A chewable would probably be better than liquid, too. Any products you like for your teens? :) Sorry if this has been asked recently!
  11. Yeah, the male rape referred to in detail over and over kind of ruined my interest in any other books in the series. I don't appreciate authors who feel they have to "go there" when the premise of the book and storytelling were so good otherwise. Quite the bummer.
  12. No. Mainly because my kids don't hang out with a lot of other kids that I feel would be into those kinds of things. I know my kids very well and they have picked up the part of my personality that would say, "That's just STUPID!" to things like the choking game, etc. I'm not naive, I just know my kids and their friends really well and see no need to introduce ideas or worries unnecessarily when I feel we've given them the tools to resist and fight off such stupidity.
  13. Same here. I may start out the year with a ballpark figure but it's rarely "right" and so I buy when and if we need something.
  14. I use Herb Ox brand and it comes loose (not in cubes) in a little jar thing. I love it. NO MSG and I can easily adjust without waste. I usually use a bit more than the recommended amount...can't remember what the ratio is, though. :)
  15. LOL Feel free! I have no idea if I made it up or it came from someone else! :D LOL
  16. Now that's a good idea!! Hmmmm, I like it. Most of my jewelry is in silver so I could be all matchy-poopoo when I wanted to.
  17. Inspired by Dawn's bluenile.com thread! I'm curious about the trend in white gold/platinum. The very few options in white gold/platinum were seen by my friends and me as kind of "cheap" 15+ years ago, but now I really like it! LOL But my rings are mine and I won't change them. :)
  18. Artes Latinae is at 50% off through the homeschool buyer's co-op right now until the 22nd! Just FYI. :) https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/index.php?option=com_epp_offer&Itemid=583
  19. No idea if it's better, but a less expensive option we were very pleased with was SunJewelry.com. The link goes to the page for the anniversary band I got. :001_smile: I sure wish we'd known that platinum and white gold were going to be so popular back when we got married because I like it more! (The anniversary band is replacing my plain gold band next to my solitaire..in yellow gold) LOL
  20. We have the Tim Hawkins DVD that has the second segment you linked...the kids in our youth group LOVE it! He's a Christian comedian and really, really funny. :) But I never knew that HE was the one who did that Addams/Homeschool Family thing! Cool. :tongue_smilie:
  21. It sure seems that way. I think it's so that they can start the spiral of learning and review that much sooner, but the PS system trips up by not doing each coverage of a concept real justice by teaching it *thoroughly*. Our next door neighbor is a 3rd grade teacher and she said that they are doing fractions next in math. Which, in and of itself is actually fine to me (we use Singapore math for K-6 at home and it definitely introduces some stuff "early"), except that it's just a fluffy run-through of a few easy fractions like 1/2 and 1/4 which they will review many times over in the next couple of years. Why do fractions for 3-4 years when you could do it all at once WELL? It's a difficulty and a necessity in many ways for the public schools I believe. Narrow and deep, NOT wide and shallow! I learned that here. LOL
  22. I have free weights and an exercise stability ball. I just choose from the SparkPeople collection of exercises (they show how to do them correctly on little video things) and, I'll admit, things I see on The Biggest Loser. LOL I started strength training when I was young and on our swim team, so I'm familiar with the basics and I just mix it up a little, usually alternating upper and lower body work during the week. :)
  23. Same here! That one has really stayed with me for so many years and that's a nice surprise. :) Also, I'd say that a recent read, The Death of Ivan Ilych was a surprising hit. Another blast from the past that I intended on hating was The Canterbury Tales and I found it pretty delicious! :D
  24. My oldest ds is a slow, thinking child similar to what you describe. :) However, the key for him is not only giving him enough time but also teaching to his learning style which is very visual! I try to make sure that for everything I'm teaching him that I have a visual example of the concept, if that's possible. He *can* take his time and figure things out, but he's much quicker to pick things up and move along if I have shown him how to do something or given him a picture, visual instructions, etc. He'll always be very methodical, though. LOL And conscientious. And a slight perfectionist. ;) Like his mommy. hehe
