  1. Kohl's has had some great ones in the past. I'm in maternity now so I'm trying out Gap and Old Navy tanks, but the Kohl's ones are still my favorite.
  2. I'm looking around for a new biscuit recipe. The Baking Powder recipe I've used before is just so-so... I'd like to be able to serve this with breakfast or a soup or stew. Any great ones out there?
  3. I love A Capella hymns. I have a bunch of CDs from these places: http://store.baptistbiblehour.com/collections/a-capella-music - A lot of this music is recorded live during a worship service, so it's not studio quality, but very "comfortable." http://theacappellacompany.com/praiseharmony.html- Mix of hymns and Praise and Worship music, also A Capella.
  4. Thanks everyone! I ended up making this, from one of the links someone posted... http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/beef-and-pasta-casserole-10000001875326/. I added a can of kidney beans it it was pretty tasty.
  5. You know, my friend's very Italian made this for us one time. I think she used lamb, but ground beef would suit me better anyway. Thanks for the idea!
  6. Thanks for the link! I buy a lot of ground beef, but I get in a rut. Some of these look really good...
  7. Besides chili, spaghetti, and tacos. Any ideas??
  8. I had two fall semesters where I struggled migraines for months at a time. It was miserable, so I feel for you! Imitrex did squat for me as well, and what helped depended on the trigger. Peppermint oil is a lifesaver. Have someone rub that on your neck and temples. A hot compress (I use a rice bag), on my head and or neck would help, too. My mom and I both notice that if our feet get cold that can trigger a migraine. Mine always seemed to originate in my neck, so YMMV on some of these, but I hope they help!
  9. We have an elaborate brunch for about 30 family members on Christmas Day. It's a favorite meal of the year, and we love planning it :tongue_smilie: We vary our menu somewhat, but here are the basics: Chocolate Mousse Homemade Cheese Danish Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms Artichoke Tartlets A Breakfast Casserole or just eggs and sausage Cold Christmas Punch Some other variations we have tried: Gingerbread or Eggnog Pancakes Corn Souffle (I think we need to bring this one back. It was delish!) Caramelized Bacon Twists Herb Cheddar Scones Coffee Cake Pomegranate Salad (We made this for a different meal last year, but it will probably be served at brunch this year) Most of the recipes were from various years of the Tate of Home Holiday cookbook.
  10. At the small Christian University I attended, any events like this were typically catered, so I wouldn't worry about a hostess gift...
  11. You're welcome. Wow! I want to take your dh's class. It sounds great. Since your student has a very clear grasp of the Constitution, that opens up lots of research possibilities. Taking a major case (Roe v. Wade, Lawrence v. Texas, etc) and examining it's constitutionality, the ramifications the decision has had on government and society could be very interesting.
  12. I think this entirely depends on the person and their strengths. I can write short (4-5) page papers easily, but I am always under or just meeting the length requirements. I'm a very succinct writer, so longer papers required me to form more conclusions and engage more deeply with the material.
  13. You could take any major issue and discuss its constitutionality. Separation of Church and State (so many topics here!) Compare the two Houses of Congress Compare our system to another system of government Compare/ contrast a bicameral legislature to a unicameral legislature How has Federalism impacted _______ (insert any major political issue). Compare the powers of the presidency today with the powers that G. Washington had Discuss the merits/ negatives of the Electoral College and our election process. I could go on and on :tongue_smilie: Do you mind sharing what government curriculum he is using? Hope this helps!
  14. Thanks for the distinction. But, see, you've helped me a lot. Several of my students want to go into medical or science fields, so this is useful info for me to pass along to them. I don't have the science back ground to teach that sort of research paper, but if they can't handle my humanities research paper, they should rethink their career goals.
  15. That's interesting, because I was expected to know how to research in my college history classes, and the professors absolutely did not take the time to walk us through the process. My students are certainly not producing original research, but I am requiring them to stick to a defensible thesis and steer clear of the report. I know they can report, and I could too, but that wasn't enough for me. I worked as a grader for a variety of freshmen classes, and I was appalled at the number of students who needed instruction on "how to write a paragraph" and "how to draw a conclusion."
  16. Thanks for all the replies! Any more?? I'm teaching a Rhetoric course, so my students write oodles of shorter assignments, but their longest paper is 12-15 pages. If they stick with the course sequence, they will not write a long paper in 12th grade, so my class is their last chance to practice writing a longer paper. I don't think it needs to be longer, but I do wonder if they should have some more 5-8 page papers throughout the year.
  17. I am a homeschool grad teaching in the homeschool community, and I'm just looking for some perspective. I am teaching a Rhetoric class and, while we have a lot of assignments, most of them are not very lengthy. The longest paper I wrote was about 15 pages and that wasn't until my senior year. My husband wrote a 30 page thesis in his Honors level PS class. What do you think is reasonable? How does that compare to the college experience you/ your dc had/anticipate? Thanks!
  18. Qwirkle has already been mentioned, but that is a favorite in my family. My 8 year old sister is actually one of the best players!
  19. If you can get your hands on Sophie's World, that helped me a lot. It's a fictionalized story of a young girl's encounters with philosophy. Sorry I don't remember much about Kirkegaard off the top of my head!
  20. I did two college trips to Europe, and I wish I had read up more on the Royalty, especially British. I had studied so many things, but it had been a long time, so I was pretty rusty. I think a basic overview of the major European Wars (tough call, I know) would be helpful because a lot of historical sites are significant because they were built/occupied when a new ruler tool over. Westminster Abbey was my favorite site. I could have spent days there. Also, the Louvre, Notre Dame, Buckingham Palace. Versailles was incredible, but it was so crowded that it made the whole experience miserable. I hope that your timing will be better than mine (late May).
  21. Coconut oil helped me a lot! Use it as you would use Monistat.
  22. My family has been doing the ones from Land's End for years. We love them! Not sure if they match what you already have...
  23. Qwirkle is a favorite in our family (ages 8-adult).
