  1. We are in MM 2B and I staple 10 pages together for every week. He normally does 2 a day but sometimes we might do 3 and make for less work later in the week. I am happy with him doing 10 pages a week.
  2. My 7 year old has used AAS levels 1-3 this year. I am thinking ahead to the next 2 years. I am wondering is it reasonable to try and finish the next 4 levels in 2 years? I know that all kids are different and go at different paces, but Im not sure how hard the next few levels are. I really love AAS but don't know if I can stand using 7 levels per child, or if maybe going through level 5 and then just start using dictation. My son is not a natural speller but doing very well with this program. Anyways, my question is it unreasonable to try and finish all 7 levels in 3 years or do I need to space it out more? Has anyone done all 7 levels and know if its necessary to do all of them? Any advice or comments would be appreciated!!
  3. Thanks for all the replies! I want to stay away from another boxed curriculum, even though I have always been interested in MFW Adventures! I am very interested in guest hollow, I am going to look that over, but from what I seen it looks good! Beautiful Feet looks good to but too pricey for me. I looked at A Living History of Our World and it looks good but not sure yet what I am looking for. We also loved Beyond but just feel like we are growing out of the boxed curriculum and we are barely using any of the suggested subjects or items that they use.
  4. We are currently using HOD Beyond this year and we loved it in the begininng, but are not enjoying it as much now. I have decided not to use HOD Bigger next year but want to do one more year of American History, since all we have read about this year is Pilgrims. Now I am stuck trying to figure out what to use next year for history, we will also be doing US Geography. If anyone has any thoughts or ideas that would be fabulous! :)
  5. My very average 4 yr old is doing the first Lollipop Logic, my 6 yr old would not like it bc it would be to easy. He does enjoy Logic Safari.
  6. We are in our first year of HOD, we are using Beyond and LHTH. For Beyond, we do the history, poetry, bible, story time, emerging readers, science as suggested. I use a different math, spelling, I added Easy Grammar, Begining Geography, logic workbook, and don't use the music. But we do love it, the science is light and fun, love the history books, emerging readers, story time books, etc. Its all planned out and easy to do, ds gets all the work done in 2.5 hrs even with all the extras we do. For LHTH, we add in R&S workbooks, Kumon workbooks, and Get ready for the Code. But we love the easy simple manual for this level. My dd loves the songs, hand plays, her bible readings, and the fun activities. We will definitely use HOD again, even with our tweaking, we love it!
  7. Wow, lucky girl! I wonder why mine took so long? Now you will be stalking the UPS man tomorrow! :D
  8. I just made 2 orders from them. The first was made on a Saturday and when I called them she told me that my order didnt go into their system until Monday. She said it wouldnt be shipped til the following Monday and then it didnt get here til Friday, so almost 2 weeks after I ordered. My second order was ordered on a Thursday and that didnt get shipped til the following Thursday. I didnt receive that one until the next Wednesday. So again it was almost 2 weeks. It made me crazy waiting for it all. I ordered alot of stuff and wanted it and didnt have patience to wait 2 weeks! Next time I will pay the extra $10 to get it shipped faster!! Hope you get it soon! ETA: I would call them, they are very friendly and will give you the UPS tracking number and you can see when it will be delivered!
  9. http://rainbowresource.com/product/All+About+Spelling+Basic+Interactive+Kit/003918/1306979522-1081510 Here is the basic kit for AAS, if that is what your looking for. :)
  10. I was really leaning towards MFW Adv. for my rising 1st grader. I ended up choosing HOD because I want to teach American History before world history. I like the layout of the TM in HOD and I dont really want to combine my kids when my next 2 get old enough. I hope that we will love HOD this year and stick with it. It is our first year with HOD and doing Beyond and Little Hands.
  11. We are using HOD Beyond and Little Hands to Heaven this year, but I had a tight budget. I bought the teachers manuals used (on the HOD yahoo group) and bought our books from Rainbow Resource, this saved me quite a bit of money. I know that probably isnt a popular idea, since it is better to buy directly from HOD and support them. But for me it was my only choice, if I wanted to use HOD. Good Luck!
  12. Finally made my first siggy! Thanks for the info on how to do it!
  13. We should also be getting our box of HOD soon, plus all the fun stuff I ordered from Rainbow Resource... We are doing Beyond and Little Hands, its our first year with HOD. I cant wait to get it and start in July! :D
  14. I am making my final list for our school year before we purchase. I am wanting to buy more fun, hands on, educational items to keep in the house for when the kids are bored and we can't get out to play. What are some fun must haves that your kids love? (my kids are ages 7-1) Thanks!
  15. We will be starting MM 1 in July, I was wondering what manipulatives you use. I think I seen that the author recommends an abacus. I was wondering what others use besides an abacus, if anything. Thanks!!
  16. We are in our first year of K and we didnt use anything that I love (it worked but it wasnt loved). We are changing everything for next year and I hope I can post on here about the things we loved for the year! Its nice to see what is working for others! :001_smile:
  17. After changing my mind numerous times I have finally decided what we will be using next year. Math Mammoth Phonics Road 1 Beyond Little Hearts Extras: Community Bible Study, Crossfit, Hooked on French, and soccer
  18. Thank you so much for answering my question! I was going to use PR and MFW Adventures, but Im not really interested in any other levels of MFW. So I have been researching HOD but was afraid of PR and HOD being overkill. If it becomes to much we will slow it down! Thanks!
  19. Does anyone have any experience with PR 1 and Beyond? My son will be 7 and I want to use PR and thinking about using Beyond. I dont own either one of these yet, and havent seen them, so I dont know if it would be too much? Thanks!
  20. So, if I would decide to go with Beyond for my 7 yr old, could I also use Phonics Road with it and drop the LA part of HOD. Or would that be to much for his age? I am completely set on using PR and want to find something to go with it. Has anyone used their own LA with HOD?
  21. Lol, thanks!! I think I will probably stick with MFW, until the HOD catalog arrives and then I will probably be back at square one while I drool over the new catalog... Why does there have to be so many good choices out there??
  22. Thanks for your responses! I think since I am confident in the fact that I want PR, I will go stick with MFW for this year. I know it will be a good enough fit for us. I just dont think with the ages of my kids MFW will be good long term, and thats why I was thinking about HOD. But I really want to choose my own LA, which Im sure I probably could do with HOD but it might be easier with MFW.... Yes, Im and confused and unconfident... I need to learn confidence for my curriculum choices... And stop opening and reading these wonderful threads about other options!! Or I might go crazy!!
  23. Ok, you ladies have drawn me into wanting to know more about this program... Im a newbie and a sucker for anything that people are raving about. ;) I feel confused about the HOD website. My oldest will be 7 and it looks like he should be in the Beyond level. Does this include LA? I seen everyone talking about R&S, but dont see that on the website. Or does HOD have its own LA for Beyond? I was planning on using Phonics Road, MFW Adventures and MM for next year. Im ok with dropping MFW and PR (or can I use PR and HOD or will that be overkill for a 7 yr old), if HOD is something that I might want to use for the long haul (of course I can always change my mind) but I hate second guessing myself. The HOD website just does not appeal to me but have read more positive reviews on HOD than MFW. Im patiently waiting for the HOD and MFW catalogs in the mail... :001_smile:
  24. I am planning on using MFW Adventures next year, but keep finding myself second guessing my decision. It seems like I see more negative reviews than positive reviews. I have looked and looked at HOD, but for some reason I am not drawn to it as much as MFW. I think MFW will work better for my family though and I am pretty excited to order it. I keep telling myself that if it doesnt work out for us its ok, because its only 1st grade!
  25. I am going to buy Living Memory by Andrew Campbell, for memorization ideas. http://www.lulu.com/browse/search.php?search_forum=-1&search_cat=2&show_results=topics&return_chars=200&search_keywords=&keys=&header_search=true&search=&locale=&sitesearch=lulu.com&q=&fListingClass=0&fSearch=living+memory&fSubmitSearch.x=0&fSubmitSearch.y=0
