I can vouch for the detailed feedback of Renee Metcalf at Inspired Scholar. https://inspiredscholar.com/courses She has an American Literature reading/composition course using Excellence in Lit (thereby covering both) and an essay pnly course using Elegant Essay. She also offers a writing evaluation service, if that's all you want. My son took both WriteShop and Elegant Essay with her.

Need book idea for teen

As a parent of a mentally-ill child, it's a lonely place to be. The parents are keeping things close to the vest for a reason: judgement. People judge their parenting, their choice to homeschool (like there are no depressed kids in government schools), and some faith communities will pile on guilt that somehow, there's not enough faith. My suggestions: You and/or your son contact the parents to communicate your support and also to ask what books would be appropriate to lend to their child. You don't want to exacerbate anything and the parents would know best. And they would appreciate it. -
What kind of Calc are you looking for? Regular or AP? Have you looked at My Fun Science? Beth Barnosky has been a very successful teacher for what I have seen on FB: https://myfunscience.com/courses/calculus/ Have you compared CLRC's Brit Lit to Excelsior's? Just as an option so BIPA time slot would work.

I contacted Mrs. Whitlock about an honors designation and the work requirements of her class as DE, and this was her response: I do believe the class is challenging enough to be designated as Advanced or Honors with the caveat that you should probably check your state's requirements. Some states have specific criteria for those designations, and we have not checked those for all 50 states to ensure that we meet them for each state. The work load for dual and non-dual credit students is identical. LeTourneau's English department verified that what I am currently teaching meets their standards for college-level credit. One difference is that I cannot be as flexible with deadlines for dual credit students as I am for non-dual credit students since I am required to submit complete grades for each dual credit student at the midterm and semester for both semesters. That means if a student plans a large extra-curricular absence like a mission trip or extended vacation, dual credit might not work well for that student. The other difference is cost; there is an additional fee paid to LeTourneau for the dual credit. HTH, Rachel

My son is going to take Mrs. Whitlock's British Lit. class. He'll be in 11th. I can definitely vouch for the instructor and her credentials are excellent. My son has had her for Classic Sci-Fi Book Club this year. I haven't decided on DE, yet. My son struggles with workload, with his migraines and sleep problems. I'd love for him to get the credit, but I don't know. The class itself is already an "advanced" English course, even though she doesn't advertise it as such. I took Advanced English in high school, and he'll be covering more than I did :svengo: . In fact, I think I'll ask Mrs. Whitlock if I can designate it as advanced or Honors on his transcript. I don't think I've helped answer your question... :confused1: Just know there's another on here who's taking the course and can highly recommend the teacher.

Yes, I can identify. If I made decisions based on the ideal, nothing would get done.

My son, 10th grade, is currently in Traditional Logic 1 w/MPA. Looking at Memoria Press Academy's schedule for next year, there is only one unattractive fall option for TLII (time-wise) and several good options for spring. But, Material Logic has a good time offer for the fall. It's not a big deal about taking ML in-between TLI and TLII, is there? Thanks, Rachel
