  1. Just discovered there is a monthly streaming subscription service of The Metropolitan Opera productions: http://www.metopera.org/Season/On-Demand/ Hopefully they will stream The Ring cycle in 2019.🎼
  2. If anyone needs Biology or Chemistry labs, My Fun Science is offering Intensives in a variety of states: https://myfunscience.com/course-tag/summer-2018/ They have 6-mth payment plans, too.
  3. If you or your state doesn't require and/or want four years of the same language (for ex: our state requires only 2 years of the same language), then that frees up 4 semesters, 2 semesters and 1 year, or 2 years to pursue other interests and still get the same credit hours.
  4. For a class which is writing only, Bright Ideas Press Academy's Jamie Anderson is offering The Elegant Essay in both fall and spring Big River Academy: English I-IV using Micheal Clay Thompson materials. (Combined writing and reading) Intro to Literary Analysis w/Ellen Scoggins (writing and reading) Classes by Beth (I have heard positive things): There is an essay summer intensive. Also, writing and lit. classes. https://www.classesbybethplus.com
  5. My son is going to be 11gr. I think this is the plan: MATH: Alg. II (likely w/myhomeschoolmathclass) ENGLISH: British Lit. (Likely,w/ Excelsior) FOR. LANGUAGE: Latin 2 w/Big River Academy U.S. HISTORY: either The Potter's School, CLRC, or Memoria Press Academy SCIENCE: Chemistry @co-op FINE ARTS: America's Artistic Legacy w/Professor Carol LOGIC: Traditional Logic II w/Memoria Press Academy, fall or spring semester RELIGIOUS STUDIES: other than studying traditional parsha schedule, TBD OTHER ELECTIVES: Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View w/Open Tent Academy, fall semester - cancelled :crying: Chess @co-op Health @co-op, spring semester POSSIBLY: PSAT prep @Memoria Press Academy SAT Prep ?? TBD Blendar class @co-op Lit. Analysis 8 wk workshop w/Write @ Home, fall semester or we work through Windows to the World together.
  6. You can also check for any lab intensives available in your area/state for much less than WTMA's offer. Depending on how close it is, room and board for one or two nights might even the scale, but it's two days and you're finished; not an extra day per week all year. Another option is to check out a local co-op for a Bio-labs only class. We have one within 30 min. that's only $ 20/mth. Also, I think there are some DVDs walking you through the lab report and labs which could be used, too.
  7. The Chemistry will probably be Apologia. It's through our co-op and the schedule for next year isn't up, yet. On the class description, the prerequisite is only Alg. 1. If he takes Geometry in the summer, he'll be taking Alg. II concurrently with Chemistry. I'll double-check before committing. He can take Anatomy and Physiology instead, if that would be a better idea. Then, take Chemistry in 12th. But, due to his age, I'd rather not.
  8. Thanks to both of you. So, if he takes the summer Geometry, then Alg. II in the fall/spring, he'll see most of his improvement on the SAT.
  9. Thanks. He took the PSAT last October, 2017. He's not in the ballpark. His English skills just need some improving, but he really struggled in the math section. He struggles with depression and in 2015, had a really bad bout, so that's why he's behind. We need him to qualify for as many scholarships as is feasible, so he needs to get his math up-to-snuff.
  10. So, option #1 or #2? #1 if taking the PSAT? He's very strong in the English/Reading and Writing Portion (91%). My hope is to strengthen him in math sufficient to be in the running for National Merit. I've looked all over the websites of Collegboard and NMS to find the scores which he needs to qualify, amd the pinned posts under PSAT, to no avail. Anyone know the score needed? Is it 98 or 99% in one or both?
  11. Is Geometry or Algebra II more prevalent on the PSAT and SAT? Also, I'm trying to decide about my son's order of math courses. He's midway through Alg. I. and 10th gr. He is going to take a foundational Algebra class in May, and SAT math prep in spring 2019, but other than that, I'm stumped. He'll be taking Chemistry next year. My options: #1: Take Geometry in the summer w/Mr. D while finishing Alg. I. Then Alg. II w/myhomeschoolmathclass 2018/19 as a junior PSAT in October 2018 Take SAT spring '19 Maybe Pre-calc or other math as senior 2019/20 #2: Take Geometry 2018/19 w/myhomeschoolmathclass as a Junior PSAT in fall '18 SAT in spring '19 Take Alg. II in 12th grade, 2019/20 #3: Take Alg. II in 2018/19 w/myhomeschoolmathclass as a Junior PSAT fall '18 SAT spring '19 Take Geometry in 12th 2019/20 Can someone provide some guidance? Thanks.
  12. Isn't the state university subsidized? Private online homeschool providers are not.
  13. Open Tent Academy: Don't Trust Atoms, they Make Up Everything! High School Chemistry Uses Holt.
  14. Take a look at Excelsior Classes, too. My son is finishing up his1x/mth. sci-fi book club with Marilyn Whitlock. I like the book list for the British Lit. class for my son this year; plus, it's Ms. Whitlock, again, who has excellent credentials, too. They have composition classes and Lit/Comp combined. https://excelsiorclasses.com/courses/ Another place is Bright Ideas Press. https://academy.brightideaspress.com/ They don't have their descriptions up, yet; but you can obtain a copy of the course list Another is Big River Academy: https://www.bigriveracademy.com/
  15. Another writing-only option for you to check out is Circe Academy. They teach Lost Tools of Writing. I don't know the workload: https://www.circeinstitute.org/academy
  16. From my Jeremiah 17:8 Facebook page: Amanda Fletcher - previously taught through Landry: https://amandafletchertest.wixsite.com/satact
  17. Thank you for taking the time to put all of this down for us. The details are very helpful. Cool topic, too!
  18. You read my mind, Innisfree. I was looking at these, too. Looking forward to hearing the details. Workload is a concern here, too.
  19. Would you mind if I contact you after the class is finished to get your opinion? Maybe in May or early-June? My son's having some lit analysis instruction now, but I don't think it's enough.
  20. Would you tell us about the Senior Thesis class, in as much detail as you can? Also, how's the Lit. Analysis class going, so far? I am considering this for next year.
  21. The Potter's School has an AP W.H. class: https://www.pottersschool.org/course/list/#course-791
  22. In Ga, Physical Science is eligible for high school credit, and 4 are needed. For my son, he'll have: 1- physical science (pre-high school) 1- biology 1- chemistry 1- anatomy and physiology (most likely. There's a long list of what can qualify as a fourth science) Maybe .5 of earth science, if I choose to include it. But in your case, I agree with the others: it seems Ohio does not count Physical Science the course, but other courses which are catergorized in the physical sciences.
