  1. Apologia is very heavy on reading; it's wordy. Maybe take a look at and compare samples to Shepherd's Science Biology. With Saxon, Geometry is next. Personally, I would put him into an online writing course. He'll be accountable to someone else besides you. Writing ER at Big River Academy would be good (she incorporates grammar); or Intro to Lit. Analysis at BRA or Excelsior. That last one would cover writing and lit. and teach him fundamental skills for analyzing what he's reading. Then, maybe he'd get more out of it. "The Elegant Essay" at Bright Ideas Press Academy for 1 semester. You may want to limit online classes to just one or two subjects, limiting his temptation to play games instead of do his work. If no lit with writing, Excelsior also has some specialty lit courses which might be of interest. Two in the spring, with a male teacher, which you might consider. Otherwise, you could design a lit course based of off of less-normal selections. What genre would he be more interested in? Fiction? Nonfiction? You could use Teaching the Classics dvds and workbook to teach him to analyze using Socratic methods as part of your lit class. Lightening lit is a get-it-done curriculum, but won't make education any more interesting. You have a chance of making something interesting for him to read. I'd suggest World Geography instead of a history course. Cultural geography by BJU covers everything, over a year. You don't need the whole set. Just the main book and TG. Use the section questions as quizzes and chapter questions as the test. Use online geography games to reinforce locations-Seterra or one other (need to look up name). There may be project ideas in the TG. Are you going to continue Logic? I'd suggest Memoria Press Traditional Logic I instead of Classical Academic Press. CAP is more conversational: MP is straight to the point. I know others will have more and better ideas than this.
  2. I've heard nothing but good things about Lantern (used to be So Verbose). I would recommend Excelsior with Marilyn (?) but, her Foundations of Composition II is filled. My son is going to take Literary Analysis with Write at Home and then 3 or 4 with Lantern. Lantern does not have an 8-wk course for Lit. Analysis. Have you looked at the High School classes at Write at Home?
  3. I sent in a question to Lantern English; they responded very promptly, less than 24 hours. I will use Write at Home's Lit. Analysis 8-wk course, then use Lantern's. I will post their response so others can make the best decision for this area:
  4. Thank you, you're probably correct. I guess I'll just email them. I suppose I'll choose the lit. analysis from Write @ Home if i don't use Windows to the World myself.
  5. "The Conspirator" directed by Robert Redford. It's about Mary Surratt and those who conspired to kill Lincoln.
  6. I have a question about the The Advanced Essay class at Lantern. Would it be comparable to a Literary Analysis class, like Write at Home's, for example? It seems like it, but I just wanted to get some others opinions. https://www.lanternenglish.com/theadvancedwriter Thanks
  7. What about Introductory Logic and Intermediate Logic (symbolic) by James Nance? Although my son found TL1 to be more understandable and with more practice problems than Intro Logic, it works for some. I found Nonsense: Red Herrings, Straw Men and Sacred Cows: How We Abuse Logic in Our Everyday Language to be enjoyable. Though, it's not really for teaching as for shoring up, as a reminder.
  8. Did you update the textbook to a more recent edition? Did your child take the AP exam?
  9. Thanks so much. I can't believe I didn't think about looking there. The tutoring sounds good. I will look into it.
  10. My son is in 11th this year. Should I skip Argument Builder and go straight to Rhetoric Alive! Bk. 1? I don't know what to do. I'd like to get in Bk. 2: Senior Thesis before graduation; or do the MP or Write @Home class for the same. Or, should I set them both aside and just have him take the 8 wk courses at Write@Home for Essay 1; E 2; and College Thesis? I don't feel confident in grading essays, even though writing comes easily to me. Any guidance would be appreciated. How easy is AB? What about RA!? Thanks.
  11. Please explain what I need to buy to implement this program? The bare minimum. Thanks
  12. Found it on the Forum. It seems REA is recommended.
  13. I think I figured it out. The Republic... was written first, so I think I'll go with that.
  14. Do we first do On Obligations, then The Republic and the Laws? Or vice-versa? Thanks
  15. Can someone give me suggestions for a reliable Biology Subject Test study book? Thanks
  16. THIS ADVERT HAS EXPIRED!

    • FOR SALE
    • USED

Glencoe, Spielvogel World History textbook with Oak Meadow syllabus included. Textbook: very good. Syllabus: binding is loose; a few pages loose or partially loose.

    $35

  17. I use TranscriptMaker They calculate the GPA for you. I bought it on sale, so I only pay just under $15 every 3 months.
  18. I've found someone to contact about getting a password. I'll let you know what I find out.
  19. Which edition do you have? I haven't signed into the teacher's side of the 10th edition, yet. The student side seems to work without a password. I wonder if you can get a password when using a used edition?
  20. I've decided to use it. It has the quizzes, exams, maps, and primary sources online for free. Plus, it's Western Civ. based, which is my preference. I will add in documentaries and selected Great Courses for other locations.
