  1. I swam a few laps in the lap pool at the Y!! Jean--I totally want to try AquaZumba!! One of the instructors is a male and he makes it look so much more fun than the skinny female instructor. As it is, I may try the AquaFitness in the lazy river soon, those women look pretty tired when they're coming out of the pool :)
  2. Sorry to double post on this topic... The above is how my mom sorts, but she only does it by color. Red underwear and red jeans would all go in the red/pink pile...it drives me crazy (heavy denim workshirts of my dad's and regular cotton tshirts in one pile!! ack!!). I usually sort based on whites/darks/lights and then categorize into the weight of the fabric.
  3. I read the first page of replies and my brain is about to trip offline, some people DON'T SORT THEIR LAUNDRY??!?? And it works!??!? I've been programmed from such a young age that you have to sort laundry or...or....something horrible may happen. I have never thought about just throwing everything in together. I am a sorter, and psychoanalyze me if you wish, but sometimes sorting the laundry really stresses me out. Take tshirts for example...we have regular heavy cotton tshirts and then poly-cotton mix Ts. They wash just a tiny bit differently so I separate them into 2 piles. Really dirty sturdy jeans go in one pile, good not-so-dirty jeans go in another pile, thin pants go in yet another pile. I'm to the point where I'm washing subcategories instead of piles. And if something doesn't fit in subcategory A or B, then it will never get washed since it doesn't match anything else to make it's own subcategory. (It's like outlining...if there's not 2 sub-headings, don't make it heading.) Wow. People that don't sort their laundry...that's something to ponder for a while.
  4. All the clouds moved in and now it's raining. waaaaah :( Looks like I'll be in my fleece for the day.
  5. Open. If I leave the bathroom stinky, I'll pull the door mostly shut with the fan on so it can vent out (blush), but otherwise the doors stay open. In fact our upstairs bathroom has a pocket door to the master bedroom as well as a regular swinging door to the hallway/entry. So both doors are usually open, it helps with ventilation and getting towels dry. I grew up with bathroom doors open unless occupied so it's very confusing to me to have an unoccupied bathroom with a shut door.
  6. Add me, I'm wearing heavy fleece today. The kids saw some blue sky out there though, so they've chosen shorts. Brr! We do have partly cloudy skies but there's clouds looming. I can't wait for the weather on July 5...looks gorgeous!!!
  7. Looks really good!!! I'm surprised the vinyl/lino flooring was in such good condition, since it looks like the cupboard doors were not. Hope someone falls in love with it and buys it right up :)
  8. Considering I'm laundering sheets from a pukey bed already tonight, yes, it makes my tummy hurt. :tongue_smilie: I dread myself getting the tummy bug b/c it takes me forever to get over the worst, I'm usually down for at least 36 hours. Right now, hubby is out at sea, so yes I dread the tummy bug more than usual.
  9. I have never soaked it overnight in a fridge, but I have used steel cut oats in this recipe: http://www.thekitchn.com/recipe-mid-wint-163084 That's all I know about steel cut oats. Might have to do some more research!!
  10. We've never subscribed to Cricket, etc. but what a great deal! I'm looking forward to ad-free kids' magazines. That's one reason I did not renew Nat. Geo for Kids. :glare:
  11. :iagree:The guy is being a bully. A creepy one. I'd also get a dog. A big loud snarly one ;)
  12. Greek yogurt has fewer carbs but watch out if you get the sweetened flavors. I have (in my hand!!) a Chobani Champions 3.5oz Very Berry flavor (looks like it would appeal to kids) and it lists total carbs at 13g and sugar is the same. It is yummy imo, a little sweet but has that tang to it that regular flavored yogurt doesn't have anymore. I also have (next to me, I dug it out of the fridge for comparison's sake) a Fage 6 oz unflavored nonfat Greek and it lists 7g carbs/7g sugar. I don't know how it tastes, I haven't tried it yet, I bought it planning to add my own fruit or a spoonful of honey to it...however I will get 2 servings out of the 6 oz but only one out of the Chobani above. I was also wondering if I could add chives to it and use it like sour cream, hm. I'm writing down the pureed frozen banana trick though...I'd love to trick myself into eating less ice cream!!
  13. We're a week away from camping Fri night-Sunday noon with my son's Cub Scout pack. I'm an introvert and not such a big camper...any advice for me? I think we have all the basics we'll need (tent & tarp, stakes, sleeping bags, rain gear, and of course an air mattress) but what I guess I really need is someone to tell me it won't be that bad. This pack is a little more calm than our last pack before we moved west, but not sure I can handle being around basically strangers for 40ish hours. Anyone have a pep talk for me??:D I'm sure no alcohol is allowed into our camping area, I may save that for Sunday afternoon when we return with a mountain of laundry.:001_huh:
  14. I thought it was a good story ;) Thanks for reposting all the blood & gore:lol:
  15. I had a boppy with #1 but didn't really fall in love with it. With #2 & #3 I just had a firm pillow...it was cheaper, we could change pillowcases (or layer them if necessary), and then put the pillow to use in bedrooms after weaning. It was also nice since 60% of the time, I'd drift off to sleep while feeding (nursing in a recliner) so the regular size pillow meant that baby wouldn't roll off w/o me waking up. By baby #3, I was operating in a fog most days:blush:
  16. you deleted?? :( after i typed all that out?!?! :leaving:
  17. We had a similar experience in the Walmart parking lot. I was holding DD5's hand and she still managed to walk into a metal sign post. She wasn instantly crying, but really, this girl does cry A LOT about EVERYTHING. I'm tugging on her to get her to move her feet, then I happened to look down and saw all the blood running down her face. Straight into the bathroom at Walmart (dripping blood all the way there, oops!) and thank God, an off-duty EMT was in there washing her hands and helped get DD (and me) calmed down. She even helped clean her up (without gloves! I was surprised!) and suggested we go buy some butterfly bandages, if it didn't stop bleeding by that night then go get stitched up. The wound was about 1 cm long right on the curve of her forehead, but wow, the blood! Everywhere! After she was calmed down DD let me know that she wasn't going to walk through the parking lot with her eyes closed anymore. Some lessons you just have to learn the hard way I guess :glare: And like your bleeder, my DD is the accident prone one...she's going to have a lot of scars on her by the time she's an adult. Glad you didn't have to go get stitches, these kids get hurt in the craziest ways.
  18. We are just the opposite, my DH really likes the FJ and I think he's having a midlife crisis  I think our next vehicle needs to be even more gas efficient than we have now (we're just coming down from $4.25/gal), and DH just wants something fun. I told him he had a lonely motorcycle in the garage if he wanted something fun. Hope someone can answer your questions :)
  19. I didn't know they could whistle!! Wow! We have not been to this zoo yet, we're going to have to plan a trip this summer.
  20. Oh I am a mess over here with the crying. #36 struck me so hard :( I think #32 is amazing as well.
  21. Mike Mulligan and His Steamshovel is my favorite. The pictures are so dear to me, I don't even know why but I almost tear up looking at it.
  22. We have 2 dictionaries. A thick paperback one that is difficult for younger children to use...and the print seems to be shrinking, what the heck?!? and then a children's dictionary. The latter is easier to use (easy-to-read format, hard cover) but DD9 is constantly frustrated that she can't find her vocab words in the hardcover children's edition and forced to use that old paperback dictionary (insert 9 year old girl drama here). I was thinking of an intermediate dictionary (some are listed as grades 5-8) but maybe a collegiate one? Any suggestions for a long-lasting household/homeschool dictionary? And don't say dictionary.com!!! I love books and want a real dictionary in my hands, not pixels on a screen!;)
  23. I'm not sure how natural it is, but I have also switched to Paula's Choice, after reading multiple reviews here at the Hive. LOVE it! Maybe not the price, but I used to have a lot of blemishes around my chin (the painful ones that are deep in the skin and just sit around hurting for a few weeks). After using Paula's Choice since Thanksgiving, I have no spots on my face at all. Disclaimer: In addition, I have also made some changes in my diet: limiting candy (eating too many chocolates seemed to lead to a breakout??), making an effort to drink more water, switching to almond milk for the bulk of my dairy intake.
