Is it a college course? Can you call their bookstore and see whether they can ship the book to you? That might be quicker (and cheaper) than using expedited shipping from an online bookstore.

Just to clarify, I'm not sure whether you are saying the Apologia books are literally black and white or the presentation style. The new editions do have color illustrations - but that may not be what you mean :)

Good for you - I think you'll be glad if nothing else for the peace of mind. I always do an evaluation on Fridays with sickies - it's a long time from Friday morning to Monday - plus it's *impossible* to get through to the office on Monday mornings.

The public schools around here take teacher in service days all. the. time. If your your times without heat and electricity are predictable, you might want to take advantage of it and work on math or where you see weaknesses. Otherwise snuggle together (to keep warm! :) and read good books together, play games, etc.

I've found a lot of bargains at ours. A few years ago I found a NEW set of History of US for next to nothing. The traffic and dealing with the kiddos would be a deterrent. Can you go at a time when somebody else can stay with the kiddos? Ours runs Friday - Sunday so the traffic isn't as bad on the weekend days.

They were fabulous with my fil. One thing to know, just because you've "called them in" - it doesn't mean the end is imminent. They really want to be included and involved before you reach that point. They were a calm, confident, knowing aspect of his last days.

They charge if you haven't made enough purchases or something. I've bought 5 years of their products so I'm a member for life (no charge) or something like that. The irony is I haven't bought anything from them in over 5 years. I wouldn't pay to use their forums. I don't like how they've set it up (to charge people)- and people complained loudly when they made the switch (made WTM's switch seem very tame comparatively) - but just like here it's their playground and they're all nice enough to let us play in it :)

I don't know about journals, but I've seen "writing tablets" that way - with about half the page blank and about half with lines for writing. Maybe check an office supply store?

That's pretty ironic - that person found something they liked about the new boards :) I'm sorry that happened as well. Better to do that type of communication in a PM. I didn't even know the boards had that feature. As many have said, the new boards are similar to SL (I've even forgotten which board I had up when I've been away from the computer for awhile - they look so much alike!). But as far as I know, SL doesn't have the "reputation" feature.
